A group of magisters breaks into the Golden City, and suddenly the blame falls on the rest of Thedosian mages?

Who said that? I didn't.

But I support removing the privileges chevaliers hold over commoners in order to diminish the possibility of these rapes ocurring.

Do you oppose keeping checks and balances on the powers of mages in order to diminish the possibility of them abusing them?

Because Elven freedom lasting rests solely on humanity's goodwill which won't be earned by prolonging conflicts or starting them.

Go explain that to Celene and Gaspard, that they shouldn't be at war with each other and won't gain anything by prolonging conflicts or starting them.

Nope. I don't oppose reasonable checks and balances on mages to prevent abuse of power.

But is Briala's way any better?

Unfortunately, the Dragon Age universe has not produced any scenario with which peaceful protest or "Elf Power" is an option; the mythos is roughly set in temporal arenas which don't lend themselves to 20th-century ideas.

Briala's way is vicious and flawed, but I don't inherently disagree with it completely. Given the choice between a coin landing in favor of Celene or Gaspard, I would sooner see it hang on its side, watch the countryside continue to burn and push Briala to hasten an elvish end to the war rather than brutally prolong it.

Yes, but it's killing his dog that really cheesed him off.  I mean, he is Fereldan after all.  They're not called dog-lords for nothing.

Reminds me of the WW2 soldier who when the Japanese killed his dog during a beach landing and he basically went berserk and fired every round he had at their direction. The other US soldiers literally had to pry him away from the machine gun turret. His words were "They shouldn't have hurt my dog."

It was a real touching story. I still get teary eyed thinking of some of those stories. If anyone is interested, look up "Dogs of World War 2". It's about 2 hours long, but a really good documentary.

"The chevalier are knights of the highest order. They are the most skilled in the world, their discipline formidable. For their service they are allowed... privileges. These privileges are not always fair... I was a victim once. They can do whatever they want to the lesser-born." - Liselle

Plus we also know they raped Loghain's mother, so it is not just one.

That plus them all literally being murderers, why should I view them positively?

The fact that they have those privileges doesn't mean all abuse them. I'm certain some do and I am against it but it doesn't mean the entire order has to go.

Also, during an invasion, soldiers rape. It's an unfortunate true. Should we disband the army?

I don't much mind what happens to Briala herself, but I have a strong personal connection to the whole "plight of the downtrodden slum-dwellers" cliche, so by my nature I always want to help those folks out. In this case they happen to be elves in a fantasy roleplaying game.

Any soldier who does deliberately rape or murder innocents should be punished, yes. They're called war criminals.

Unfortunately for the Chevaliers, this includes every member. In fact, they are the only faction where saying "They are all murderers" is accurate. Not even the Darkspawn are that concrete in that statement.

There are always casualties in war. It's an inevitable, ugly truth to any armed conflict. I agree with Briala's cause to free the elves, so I want my Dalish Inquisitor to help her make that a reality.

It's also possible Celene may be willing to compromise to have Gaspard dealt with, or vice versa, in order to prevent a Nevarran incursion into Orlais.

There's a big big difference between a soldier killing combatants on the battlefield and a person who knowingly prolongs a war for personal gain. One is justifiable as an ugly necessity the other isn't.

So you have a weakened Orlais and an untrained nation of elves against a well trained and prepared invading army at full strength?...Yeah they'll be crushed.

'Truth' is not universal. Nobody see the true world. The world anyone sees is shaped by their perceptions. What is 'true' to one person is not the same as what is 'true' to another person.

Logic dictates that you don't disband the army. You punish the ones that commit the crime. Now take that concept and bring it into dragon age.
