You forgot due process. They didn't know who the criminals were and the book stated that Michel thought his trainer was not telling the truth. This is guilt by looking like an elf.
Due process? In Thedas? What's that?
There is no such thing.

Not true. We have that scene in Awakening where the Warden oversees a few cases.
As opposed to simply using the Eluvians to reduce casualties to foster goodwill and sympathy among humans and elves while Celene and Gaspard invite anger and resentment among the populace for letting them die over a glorified pissing contest?
Except Briala isn't fighting a war like Andraste did she's playing both sides from the sidelines to keep one going to benefit her goal like an arms dealer supplying both sides with weapons for money.

...And acts as judge, jury and executioner?
Not true. We have that scene in Awakening where the Warden oversees a few cases.
You mean the scene where the accused tells us what he claims happened and we tell him/her what will happen? There were no witnesses, no requesting another trial, etc.
You could even execute a noble without any conclusive evidence.

That wasn't due process, that was noble fiat.

Rights that don't really exist in Thedas.
Exactly the human powers need to allow it which won't happen as long as the elves use violence to attempt to achieve it.
Then it needs to change. Status quo is not acceptable anymore. I'm pretty sure that is why the mages got fed up and the elves couldn't take it any longer. The answer is not to say "all have to go back to the way it was".
I remember a day in court. I hope that's available in Inquisition.
Yes. I wanna lay down some high justice on idiots in Thedas.
...And acts as judge, jury and executioner?
I never said it was good due process. ![]()

Do we even have "due process" in Thedas that isn't biased towards nobles, short of Par Vollen?

Maybe we should aim higher. The court is a good idea. It may work better with witnesses and a jury.

Well, we do have this concept art:

How does a society function without it?
How does a society function without it?
It doesn't really, but I was mostly talking about the unbiased towards nobles and upper class part.

Based on the concept art, the Inquisitor seems to be able to gain quite a degree of power and authority in a region.
Indeed, although I'm still a little curious to see how we become powerful enough to circumvent normal law and gain the right to lay down justice, especially if there is a Dalish elf or a Qun on the Inquisitor throne.
I know, and it makes me so excited.
I like how it is a female Qunari. I like the look they are going with.

Definitely a badass.
If good will alone was sufficient to stop how the elves are treated, an elf uniting the Free Marches and ending the Fourth Blight would have done it. Or the potential participation of the Dalish in the Fifth Blight.
Sometimes, action needs to be taken.
Andraste wanted to see the humans free. Shartan wanted to see the elves free. Briala is trying to free the elves. The common goal for all of them is an interest in helping liberate their people.
Except we have elves like Velanna and Tamlen who squander it all by acting stupid and an elf acting on her own to help people regardless of race will have greater impact then a Warden or soldier just doing his job.
You're ignoring that the means they used were very different. Andraste and Shartan also weren't cowards that hid on the sidelines aggravating a conflict while basking in their self righteousness they fought on the front lines with their army.
Also the ends Never Ever justify the means if those means involve the callous disregard of innocents for the "greater good" if you disagree then fine but I'll never agree with it.
Someone enforces the laws. Isabela drown a ship full of elves because the an Orlesian Navy ship was going to catch her. The punishment for slavers is death by hanging. Apparently, someone is enforcing laws. This was in "Those Who Speak" by David Gaider. I can't see how a city can even function without laws and due process.

Thank you

True, but Isabela wasn't a noble that could buy off the judge/whoever handles matters such as these.
