It would seem Tevinter learned from the best. And yes, I know that lol. I'm the one who came in here screaming about the slavery bit a week or two ago.
On note. The elves of old can suck it.

Do we know how far back the Eluvians date to?
Also, your disdain for them but yet having it as your name makes me chuckle.
Eluvians date back to Arlathan.
As for my name, I picked it up after I played Witch Hunt, cause I thought they were cool.
All elves in the kingdom of Elvhenan that covered Thedas. They started losing their magic and immortality, as a result of the quickening. Felassan does mention their immortality and uthenera.
The more I think about what Felassan said, the more I think that the ancient ones were just extremely long lived, and that whatever caused the quickening somehow depleted that longevity.
The Dalish are segregationists. They disagree with just about every Human institution and cultural expectation. Not because they want to tear them down or actively oppose them, but because they want to do things their own way.
There's a major difference between 'will not submit to someone else's system' and 'actively opposing.' The Dalish aren't interested in submitting to the Circles, but they have never expressed interest in helping mages tear down the Circle system to be free.
You don't have to want to destroy something to be against it. I'm against Orlesian policies. That doesn't mean I want to raze Orlais to the ground.
And the thing Xil said was "Dalish against the Circle", which I was answering.
Don't worry, Justinia. I am a girl, so you got one right(not that I didn't make it easy.
).
Is it too late for me to jump in on this girl power train?
On note. The elves of old can suck it.
Pointy ears must make having their heads up their but really uncomfortable.
Is it too late for me to jump in on this girl power train?
Wait. Wait. Are you saying you're a girl?

WAIT, YOU'RE A GIRL?!?!?!
O_O

That literally came out of nowhere lol

I feel like everything I've ever known is a lie, first Mercury now possibly Dean? What is happening?

I confess that I'm not actually a Luke Skywalker Minifig.
True, but how many there are and if their proportions hold any significance whatsoever will likely be purely speculative.
Given the context of only needing one spy or betrayer to leak the password? The Eluvian network can either be a mass transportation network and lose the secret in relatively short order, or Briala can keep the secret extremely restricted and then be limited in exploiting the power of the network.
Don't need a major faction for that- just a little bit of corruption is enough to constrain and limit the Eluvian network.
I love this threadThat literally came out of nowhere lol

what the hell!? I'm most hurt by this revelation. I don't know if I can look at you in the same light anymore..

Who knows at this point. The contradicting information about longevity from Gaider and Kirby doesn't help clarify the issue, almost as though it was intentional.
Well, it makes sense in the context of the world. No one really does know the truth in Thedas since no one alive now was around back then, and records of the past are few and far between.
I confess that I'm not actually a Luke Skywalker Minifig.
Don't lie to me! I clearly have a picture of Lego Vader telling you he is your father.
When did Celene manipulate Briala? Her brutality was forced by none other than Gaspard, it was the only way to get the Divines aid in the Mage/Templar war happening in her empire.
The manipulation was that whole murder-the-parents-and-then-lie-and-sleep-with-her-for-years things. Plus, the self-acknowledged rollback of promises and such.
Saying the brutality was forced by Gaspard ignores that it was on Celene to decide how to resolve the crisis, and what costs she was willing to partake. So we know that Celene can be brutal, and will be brutal for expedience sake.
Which, well, is kind of the point. She's capable of manipulating when she thinks it will serve her, and she's capable of being brutal when it will serve her.
Specifically the implication on his desire to march on the Dales, but even without that, it was said more than once by more than one how terrible the Elves would have it under his rule.
Said by who, though? Briala says it, and Celene says it, and IIRC a particular dreamer who is likely helping mastermind this all and so has good reason to be less than impartial.
Weakening Orlais is what gives them the opportunity, what's your point?1. The goal is not to weaken Orlais but to have enough time to make something for themselves. As long as the war last, the humans can't stop them from doing that.
And this is different from what I've been saying this entire time, how?2.And the reason why is so she can make a state for the elves and make sure the humans can stop them from doing that.
Prolonging the war is a means not an end.
Alright, so it would be entirely moral for Briala to commit genocide against the entire human race by this farce of logic you've constructed. I wholeheartedly reject your selective insular idea of morality. You can't sort people under a label so that you can write them off. You can't say "humans might mistreat us" and say you're entirely free of moral wrongdoing when your actions lead to the deaths of thousands of innocents. No sir, I refuse to entertain such a morality. Good day.3.She's not wrong. Doing something beneficial for someone who will only do you harm is not moral, it's foolish. Think of the story of the fisherman and the sick snake. Take not of that and you see that she doing no wrong.

Which makes me wonder if there's a bit of original blood magic I could cook up, that would compel everyone involved to keep their mouths shut. Or if there's some sort of magic in the code word itself that prevents it from being so easily leaked...
Gaspard hasn't got half as much sympathy for the elves as Celene. If a situation like Halamshiral came up, he wouldn't even attempt to solve it quietly like Celene did, nor would he ride down the streets trying to keep his soldiers from being too brutal as Celene did.
Though really, it's his expansionist policies that generate my dislike.
Not having sympathy for the elves doesn't make him cruel- not having sympathy for the elves makes him unsympathetic. Cruelty is a separate issue from that. (And from harshness, and expansionism, but that's a different thing.)
I do agree that he wouldn't try to keep his soldiers on best behavior (unless he had a reason to), but that's not cruelty either. Cruelty would be to actively encourage that behavior.

Photoshopped.

Putting them under a magical geas to stop the spilling of secrets? How...clever, Xil. Perhaps I'd need to work up a blood magic truth complusion.

Sure. It's the spell of three: three can keep a secret if two of them are murdered or enslaved with blood magic in the name of the greater good.
I suppose he's more apathetic than cruel. Not having sympathy for the elves doesn't make him cruel- not having sympathy for the elves makes him unsympathetic. Cruelty is a separate issue from that. (And from harshness, and expansionism, but that's a different thing.)
