Sure. It's the spell of three: three can keep a secret if two of them are murdered or enslaved with blood magic in the name of the greater good.

Let's not give Xil any ideas lol

I remember how JB had the best day of his life when I said the old elves practiced slavery lol

I really should mention that nowhere does the book actually say the ancient elves practiced slavery. Felassan describes the Elvhenan like it was Orlais, which is bad, but it isn't "Elven Tevinter". After reading the book, I went and found the post where you said that the ancient elves practiced slavery and everyone freaked out and ran with that piece of info, even though that isn't actually what Felassan said.

I suppose he's more apathetic than cruel.

Gaspard isn't the type of person that will pull the legs off a bug.  He's the type who will step on it without caring that it ever existed.

Putting them under a magical geas to stop the spilling of secrets? How...clever, Xil. Perhaps I'd need to work up a blood magic truth complusion.

I already have the countermeasure: their brains explode if someone tries to force it out.

I invite you to come up with a better security measure, if you wish.

I had later clarified that it was indentured servitude, but yeah, basically.

Felassan was implying that even the ancient elves must have had servants.  Whether they were slaves or just lower class elves is yet to be determined.

That would really make Briala unsympathetic if she is worse to the City Elves then the Orlesians were.

Not having sympathy for the elves doesn't make him cruel- not having sympathy for the elves makes him unsympathetic. Cruelty is a separate issue from that. (And from harshness, and expansionism, but that's a different thing.)

I do agree that he wouldn't try to keep his soldiers on best behavior (unless he had a reason to), but that's not cruelty either. Cruelty would be to actively encourage that behavior.

That's splitting hairs, the spirit of the discussion is that Gaspard is kind of a bad dude and arguably worse than Celene.

Oh, I doubt Briala would. It's perfectly in character for Xil, though.

Don't worry. I'll make it quite clear that anyone who wants to know the code word will die if someone forces them to reveal it; it's all consensual.

I already have the countermeasure: their brains explode if someone tries to force it out.

So if I was to somehow make them give the information willingly, your countermeasure wouldn't activate because they weren't forced. Hmm, interesting.

And just for a password. Just wait until you're firmly established- the though police of the revolution will be well established to ensure people think the right things and obey the right rules.

Sure. Three-agent biometric confirmation systems. Or we could go with cypher-pad encryption checks.

Well, perhaps some good ol' intimidation ought to do it.

And here I thought the spirit of discussion was that Gaspard was cruel.

I've met enough assholes to distinguish between uncaring harshness and malicious cruelty.

Xil just believes that because I told her so.

No, that's the secondary measure. The primary is a compulsion that forbids them from telling it willingly.

Damn...you really want to protect those damn pieces of glass.

Yes.

And thus if we go by one of your plans, Briala's network will not be so doomed, yes?
