I'm not sure, since Dalish traditionally don't use magic that involves spirits. It may have been from an elven tome, or Felassan, who seemed familiar with it.
Perhaps. I mean, a pride demon managed to influence both Marethari and Merrill from within a sealed statue. Makes me wonder if Imshael, a much stronger demon, attemped to manipulate this clan.

An extremely powerful Dalish mage who doesn't identify as Dalish, serves some kind of super-powerful Fade creature that may or may not be the Dread Wolf, and has a mysterious clan we wouldn't want to meet. Plus, he is obviously friendly with Imshael.
