Having played two characters who were native Fereldens and being more familiar with the culture and traditions of that country, I do feel a degree of loyalty to it, certainly over the interests of Orlais, for instance.    In most of my playthroughs I have either Alistair alone or Alistair married to Anora on the throne, so I like the monarch in charge.   In fact I have nothing against Anora on her own, particularly if married to my Cousland noble.     Even my Dalish warden felt reasonably loyal to the state, particularly with the boon granted at the end.   If attacked by either Orlais or the Qun, the only likely candidates, I would want to defend Ferelden, particularly since I don't like either of the alternative political set ups represented by these two groups.

However, I was thinking, what would happen if circumstances meant that it would be more favourable to my Inquisitor to support the other side?    Would I be happy doing this or would support I Ferelden at the expense of my own interests?   Does anyone else feel they might be compromised in this way?

i have a small sense of loyalty to ferelden, but as for hawke, no i dont believe he/she had any impact on that... i thought of hawke as a free marcher over a ferelden...  any loyalty came from my warden.  But, personally i like orlais better...  as for supporting ferelden... if it was in my best interest yes, but only if its something marginal....  If they war on orlais and want me to support it, i really dont think i would

I don't have any sense of loyalty towards Ferelden.
My character in DAI might, but it depends which is the human background.

Not particularly. I don't have as much animosity towards it as I do Orlais, but I don't see any of the human nations as being particularly good.

I think it's the better of the two kingdoms I've been in thus far but no I wouldn't say they take any particular priority over other nations at the moment.

Eh. Fereldan is kind of just a typical medieval kingdom with some fantasy added and a wobbly throne that gets stolen from time to time.

I get it. Much like Origins as a whole, it's an introduction to the world of Thedas. But it always made me chuckle that our party members and the codex would hype up places so much.

"The Tevinter Imperium is a place where mages rule to this day. A fallen empire that once spanned most of Thedas, ruins of the empire's magnificence are spread throughout the land." Gee that sounds interesting! Hope we go there! Time to trek to Denerim again to sell stuff to Gorim.

"Orlais, otherwise known as the masked empire, is a land where intrigue is as common as ticks on a mabari. Lords and ladies openly invite spies into their home in a great game only important to those playing it." Huh...kind of wish we saw more influences of those guys. They're kind of french and France is one of my favorite countries. Oh well, we're going there in Inquisition. On to Redcliffe to fight hordes of undead!

"The Anderfels are a brutal, battered land lashed by a harsh climate and harsher inhabitants. The wardens are based here in their magnificent fortress and there are rumors that the First Warden is making a political grab." Oh man. Hope we get a game set there. Oop, better keep hunting for the ashes.

And so on and so on.

I've actually been more interested in seeing other places. There are so many other countries in Thedas, I kind of wish we could spend less time in Ferelden, if anything.

Ferelden may arise sympathies because we know the country very well after DA:O. The good and the bad. Truth be told, compared to other countries in Thedas, Ferelden isn't the worst place in the world. It's just your typical medieval fantasy kingdom.

However, from a character's perspective? Depending on the roleplay. My mage warden felt a lot of loyalty, despite (or maybe because of) being placed in the Circle Tower for years. My Casteless and Dalish Wardens not so much. The Dalish was even a bit antagonistic, but since the current king is an old pal, it's a matter or liking the ruler in charge. One of my Hawke's was very nostalgic, the other preferred Kirkwall. A bit mad that last fellow, mind you.

So in Inquisition it would be a matter of roleplay. That's why I want to know more about the backgrounds.

Damn right I have a sense of loyalty to Ferelden. I love Ferelden and I think I will always call it home. Does this mean that Ferelden is my favorite place? No, I'm pretty sure that I will have way more fun and maybe even like Orlais better than Ferelden.

Absolutely. If you dropped me into Thedas tomorrow, I'd make myself at home in Ferelden. Orlais is too pretentious, Rivain is too hot, Par Vollen is too totalitarian, and Tevinter is too batshit insane. Nah, give me a dog, a bucket of mud, and pair of leather boots any day.

No. When Gaspard gets the throne we will show the upstart kingdom it's place -> as a province of the great Empire of Orlais  *trumpet*

Not at all. If anything, I am ready to be done with Ferelden and move on to more interesting countries and cities in Thedas.

No more so that I do for Kirkwall, which is to say not much.  It will be neat to potentially see areas/characters we visited in Origins redone in the Frostbite engine, but I don't have any particular pro-Ferelden feelings.

After all the time I've spent playing Origins I must say I do feel loyal to Ferelden. If the first game had been set in Tevinter or the Anderfels, I'd probably feel loyal to those countries, too (the others don't interest me that much). Ferelden also seems to be the most similar to where I live irl. I hope we don't have to fight against them in Inquisition. :(

I wasn't meaning that I only want to play in Ferelden.  On the contrary I will enjoy going to other places.   We know we are going to spend sometime in Orlais.   I would also like to visit Antiva, Rivain and Tevinter just to see how different the culture is there.     It was purely the attachment I feel towards the country in which I was based for the entire first game, and with I could have gone back to in the second.   Seriously, after the mother's death, particularly if the sibling was in the Grey Wardens, I felt there was nothing keeping me in Kirkwall.   The only Hawke who was remotely attached to the place was the girl who romanced Sebastian.   I could understand why Varric had a loyalty to the city as he had been there so long and was well entrenched in the merchant hierarchy but apart from Anders, who had his own specific agenda, I couldn't see why any of the others would want to stay there.   After defeating Meredith, I always assumed my Hawkes were either sailing the high seas with Isabella or got her to drop them off back in their homeland.   One of my mage Hawkes might have gone to Tevinter to milk the adulation they would have got from defeating the Arishok (and giving the Templars in Kirkwall a bloody nose) and another might have headed for Starkhaven with Sebastian, but it was no surprise that Hawke was no longer in Kirkwall at the end - it seemed to me about time.

I do feel a loyalty to Ferelden. I know a lot of that is probably because it was the first country in Thedas we were introduced to, and I replayed DA:O a lot so I spent a lot of time there. But I also just relate to the people and overall atmosphere there - actually reminds me a lot of what is "home" for me, even all the way down to their dog relationships.

Compare that to, say, Orlais, whose culture and overall snooty demeanor makes me want to slap everybody from there.

I'm rather proud and happy to be a "dog lord". :) Then again, I'm biased (and sleep every night with both a husband and two dogs snuggling me in the bed, so clearly we're Fereldans at heart!  <3  ).

+1. I think my Hawke spend the whole game thinking about returning to Ferelden.

My Hawke also wanted to go back to Ferelden since it was her home. But that would have been the same with any of the countries. If Hawke had been from Orlais, that's where she would have wanted to go.

The only loyalty I feel for Ferelden is when my Cousland is queen.
