My Couslands did. I would rather see different countries and play as different nationalities people. It's like we see other countries only through Fereldan glasses, and it's a very restrictive perspective. I haven't read "The Masked Empire" yet, but I wouln't like Orlais to be the bad caricature of France or Qunary to become Dragon Age batarians or something.
Do you feel a sense of loyalty to Ferelden?

I don't have any sense of loaylty to Ferelden. It's dirty, smells of a wet dog and it generally isn't fabulous enough for me :|

I don't have any sense of loyalty towards Ferelden.
My character in DAI might, but it depends which is the human background.
I prefer to handle things in-character as well. I'm not sure the Dalish, Dwarven, or Vashoth would necessarily feel any loyalty to Ferelden, per say. The last name for the human protagonist may suggest a Ferelden nationality.

Absolutely. If you dropped me into Thedas tomorrow, I'd make myself at home in Ferelden. Orlais is too pretentious, Rivain is too hot, Par Vollen is too totalitarian, and Tevinter is too batshit insane. Nah, give me a dog, a bucket of mud, and pair of leather boots any day.
Not gonna lie. I kind of agree with this sentiment. I'd go crazy dealing with Orlais and Par Vollen kinda scares me. Idk about living in Rivain. But in Tevinter, the only way I would want to live is if I was an upper level magister.
Otherwise, I'd be cool with living in Ferelden. They are by no means perfect, but they're a lot more down to earth. So in that regard, I'd feel somewhat loyal to Ferelden.

Ferelden seems like a pretty homey place to be, relatively speaking. It seems to be the only one not overrun with factions that hold extreme ideologies, assassins or slavers. Besides, any place that places a great deal of value on its dogs couldn't be all that bad, and no place else is really brown enough for me.

I think the question was on a metagame level though. Similar to how you feel about the Dalish, while you may make characters that disagree with your stance.

I don't. I know it's Bioware's Game (I gave up the fools notion it was my characters story years ago) but I kind of wish they would pick some other place to have your character hail from. ![]()

I, as in me as a real person and not all of my characters, do feel a sense of loyalty to Ferelden, yes. I love it, and because it's the place where the first Dragon Age game is set, it feels kind of like home. I'm still more excited to see new countries, just out of pure curiosity/interest. But I will always hope for the best for Ferelden and hold a bit of a grudge against characters who think they are better than "those barbarians and dog-lords".

On a personal level, not really, save for the fact that I fully support its independance.
But my own opinions are sorta irrelevant, as I'm not part of this universe, so my character's opinion are more relevant; my CE Warden is loyal to Ferelden, having placed her own pawns on the throne, and being the Arl of Amaranthine. As for my Hawke...well she's certainly more loyal to Kirkwall than Ferelden which is more of a Nostalgia thing.
Now I still didn't define all my Inquisitors but the first one only gives a damn about the Dales and the second sees all the human-controlled nations and organizations as personal ennemies, so yeah, not really Ferelden-friendly (yet ?).

No. Its just a country. I have some loyalty to characters I guess. I have a sense of loyalty to the Grey Wardens and perhaps to the Chantry, but not to a bunch of dog lords ![]()

I do though that's in part due to how many things you were able to influence there. Well that and my characters are almost always mages and Fereldan seems to be the only nation other then the imperium where the rulers are willing to give a mage a fair shot at life. I really hope that between Dinerems restoration, Amaranthenes resurgence as a trading city, the growth of vigils keep as a major economic power and Red Cliff's increasing political and financial importance that the nation is well on the road to recovery and growth.
I might even cheer a bit if a bit if later we learned that the nation was benefiting economically due to increased use of magic.

Unlikely given we are in a non industrialized age of Thedas.
Goods are produced by Craftsmen, Foodstuffs by Farmers and Trade is regulated for the most part on the local and national level. International trade is the exception not the rule given its mostly restricted to sea trade and only in luxury goods.
There really isn't a niche for the products Magic can produce unless if you are falling into the obscenely wealthy noble category, in which case you would have access to the abilities of magery such as Enchanting, and Healing and what have you but for the most part those services are far outside the range of the average serf working a plot of land for his lord.

Not really. In fact it would make me pretty happy if one of the backgrounds for the human Inquisitor was based out of the Free Marches.

Nope, not to Ferelden itself. I feel a certain sense of loyalty to Anora, though. Which might have the exact same results, when it comes down to it.

In terms of people, I like the Fereldans a lot more than the Orlesians. The Ferelden is rugged and practical and I get the feeling I won't like the pomp that comes with the Orlesian court. It seems to me that they are, on the whole, a nation of opportunistic bullies that hasn't had a truly great leader since Drakon, and have been coasting ever since.

I'm not all that excited about seeing it again when there is still so much of the world left undiscovered, but yeah, I suppose so. At the very least I'm going to have a very hard time putting someone on the throne in Orlais who wishes to see Fereldan conquered, or creating a character who would. But I'd probably be just as protective of Kirkwall...if there was much of Kirkwall left to save that is.

I've just finished playing Origins and Awakening again, after a very long break, so this may account for the nostalgia. Certainly of the nations we have been introduced to thus far Ferelden is nearest to my idea of how I would like my homeland to be. May be it is because in real life I don't mind getting my hands dirty, I'm pretty rustic in outlook and have had two very intelligent dogs in the past, so love the Mabari. I hate metaphorical back stabbing and intrigue so I wouldn't enjoy living in Orlais at all.
I'd love to meet a member of the Silver Order if nothing else to see how they look in their silverite armour. If the human is from Ferelden but they don't give them a specific backstory, then I think I imagine them as coming from Vigil's Keep and having been part of that order of knights.
I would have no problem role playing any nationality but it would feel very odd playing an Orlesian noble, particularly a Chevalier, as I really don't like them.
