On the subjects of bias in favor of our preferred groups, I could stand to see one of my favorite dialogue options in Mark of the Assassin repeat itself.

Here is Tallis preaching a bit about how Salit will harm innocent qunari if his plan goes through and my Hawke is like "I'm still waiting for a reason why I should care about these people."

I honestly don't know. It depends on the context of the war I believe. Why they are fighting? Who is the aggressor?
Plus, it's a choice completely tied to the character I'm playing. If I'm playing as a dalish, I'd likely support the dalish; if I'm a human mage, I'd support the mages.

I can't resist. Okay how about this scenario. A group of mages have founded a new community far enough away from any major civilization points that they don't have to worry about templars. The land is too rough and rugged to march an army across and the mages are well situated. So we have a mage community made possible by magic. The conflict with the elfs comes over resources. While this region used to be able to handle a large group of elfs traveling through it, a brief visitation, it can't handle a small mage community and their traveling.

Now the elfs tell the mages to leave while the mages tell the elfs that they can just build up their reserve of traveling supplies a little more before taking the journey.

I'd say I'd support the mages. That location wasn't of the dalish. The mages had the right of building a community there.

Would truly be an ugly war with no real winners, least not in my eyes.

I'd not waste Inquisition resources over it. If the mages and the elves want to kill each other over some meaningless plot of land far away from human civilization, it's not my problem.

Alternatively, I might fund the elves in order to root out this mage community in the bud.

When I proposed the hypothetical dalish-mages conflict I wasn't referring to DAI (I'm sure that the two groups won't collide, or ally, with each other in DAI), but in general.

I wouldn't say that I feel loyalty to Ferelden, but it did ****** me off when DA2 characters insulted it.  I was like "Oh yea?  Well at least Ferelden was better than this dump."  Mostly, it's just Origins > Inquisition > DA 2.  It's loyalty to my Warden, if anything.

Not really. I'm kind of sick of Ferelden actually and I'm hoping Ferelden won't be our homeland in Inquisition.

Of all the locations that have been announced and hinted at for DAI, returning to Ferelden interests me the least. I hope we won't spend too much of the game there.

In Origins, it depended on my Warden's background.

Human Noble, no question that they were loyal. The Dalish Warden cared only in as much as it was their home now that their clan had left, but knew that many other clans still there were under threat just as much, and if they failed, the Blight would spread till no-one was safe. The City Elf simply cared about the Alienage Elves and felt very little loyalty to those in power, as long as the person in charge left them alone and treated them well. The Dwarf Noble Wardens felt more loyalty to Orzammar (as screwed up as it is) even despite being exiled and any loyalty to Ferelden came second. The Dwarf Commoner meanwhile went completely native as soon as they hit the surface, screw the stuffed-shirts in their hole in the ground! As a Mage of the Circle Tower, the Elf Mage felt loyalty to Ferelden by default, although the Human Mage remained a Marcher at heart and felt loyalty to Ferelden only because they'd been in the Circle there for so many years.

In DA2, I felt Hawke always remained loyal to Ferelden as their homeland and identified themselves as a Fereldan first, but grew to feel a kinship with the Free Marches over the course of the game, particularly Kirkwall as the birthplace of their mother, ancestral home of their family and the location where their parents first met. Despite the Blight being over in less than a year, like Aveline, they'd put down enough roots that made they want to stay.

As for the Inquisitor's relationship to Ferelden, it really depends what background (if any) we'll be getting?

I'm playing Tal Vashoth because I have no loyalty to a country, religion, or people. I have a code of conduct formed by my own ideals, individuals I wish to see prosper and a sense of responsibility for those who fight for me or who are under my express protection.

bioware seem to moving more toward causes. i like ferelden but what people need to understand is its not in no way like medievil england, which was more like Grr martins books but worse much worse.

But if given the chose i would be a ferelden, but like someone said the good of all thedas depends on the inquisitor to save orlaise from itself and any grudge is moot campaired to the fate of thedas.

Dont get me wrong if i can i'll support my favourite faction (the elves) as much as i can but eveyone as a whole comes first not politics.

Of my two main Wardens, (Male Tabris & Female Surana) both are deeply Andrastian and Ferelden.

I suppose I have a sense of nostalgia for it. It has the merit of having nobles that don't usually spend all their time politicking.

Funnily enough I've been reading DA: The Masked Empire and the whole time I'm thinking to myself if my Inquisitor has to have dealings with certain characters from it, I know which ones to kill/refuse to help/screw over to ensure that Orlais doesn't invade Ferelden, LOL! I also really dislike the the majority of the Orlesian nobility, but I love how they've been written to be pompous, rude and generally foul.

Sooooo, yeah I definitely feel a sense of loyalty to Ferelden. Maybe also partly because Ferelden is pretty much the Thedas equivalent of England, which is where I'm from. Ironically, I can't say I feel the same loyalty to England itself, lol.

I already mentioned my OOC feelings.  If we're talking in-character...

Jeffrey Cousland is married to the queen, so definitely. (Human Noble)

Belorfin Tabris is bann of the alienage, and has dedicated his life to helping city elves, so yes... but he is also in love with Morrigan. (City Elf)

Duran Aeducan is dead, but he considered himself more a proud Warden than a Fereldan.  No. (Dwarf Noble)

Darren Brosca is a paragon of Orzammar and his sister beared King Bhelen's child, so no. (Dwarf Commoner)

Victor Surana bears no love nor loyalty to any country, but he learns to tolerate Amaranthine.  More concerned with liberating mages.  No. (Elf Mage)

My Hawke is Fereldan for life.  Yes.

I really do. I feel like a Ferelden myself and will protect it with my life. Do not call us dog lords!

I suppose Avren Mahariel liked it well enough, and his best friend is king, so there's that.

Yes. I love Ferelden. No other country is even close to her, save maybe the Anderfells which seem really interesting.

I would not be opposed to assisting a foreign power in the conquest of Ferelden.

Considering one of my most loyal companions is one of the current rulers. Yeah, I kind of do.

=> The dog? ;)

(sorry, had to poke fun at it, as I don't really think Alistair does all that much ruling (at least not independently: Arl Eamon probably has more influence and say then he should!), not that he is a puppet either I think, he just does not have the experience (and neither the training, sons and daughters of kings are prepared all their live to rule one day!) and needs help!)

greetings LAX

Playing as Hawke I certainly felt that loyalty to Fereldan, though that was mostly due to my experiences as The Warden. I have no doubt that in DAI I'll still have some loyalty to that dog infested land whether my character hails form there or not.

Oh hells yeah I do! I worked my ass off to save Ferelden, there's no way I'm abandoning it now. If Alistair is on the throne (which he is), then doubly so.

Maybe it's partly because it's a "dog" country. I love dogs. My mabari will rip your ass to shreds if you so much as look at me wrong.

I'm reading "The Masked Empire" right know and asked myself the exact same question, due to the civil war and Celene's and Gaspard's different views on how to treat Ferelden.

My answer was pretty clear. Yes absolutely, I do feel a sense of loyalty to Ferelden, DA:O definitely "conditioned" me to like the country. :D
