Well, I just hope it's tastefully done. Mass Effect 1 did the sex scenes the best.
But in all honestly I don't even care that much.

Fade to black, honestly, why do we even need on screen sex ?
I think the problem with a fade-to-black is that it can come across as being unnatural. Its a bit weird to have the screen fade out to black and then cut back in with the characters standing around fully clothed, in the same positions they were in before conversation was initiated, as if nothing had happened. It just flow as well as it would have if that romance scene had instead been in a book or on film.
That isn't to say that the devs can't use a fade-to-black, just that if they do go that route, its better to have the screen fade out and then cut back in to action elsewhere in the world, similar to how fade-outs are used in film.
So lonely gamers can use it as a substitute for real life relationships.
We have porn for that tho.
I'm fine with everything but number 2. It was just so awkard in DAO.
But really, I don't particularly care about the scene per se. I care about the consequences and changes after it, though.
1 3 or 4.
We have porn for that tho.
I'd prefer one with Varric.
You know, it really bothers me, and I think says something really disturbing about our society, how we view, and to be fair, how we have turned sex into something filthy and disgusting.
Sex is, or at least should be, one of the more beautiful parts of life. However the scene is done, I would hope to see that reflected.

Not wanting to see painfully awkward virtual soft-porn isn't vilifying sex.

It is, yes, but because it is a great intimate moment between people, and watching different people doing it, just makes me feel utterly out of place.

Why does it have to be porn?
Like I said a few pages back, I'm not clamoring for full blown nudity and explicit sex scenes; really, I think the fully explicit scenes would be detrimental to the overall product.
But there's a difference between a well done, tasteful love scene, and porn.
And yes, the animates may be awkward, but that's something that won't improve if they don't work on them. And we're not just talking about sex scenes here; simple hugs, handshakes, someone grabbing someone else. I understand the difficulties and challenges that come with animating convincing contact between two individuals, but that isn't something that will get easier unless people put effort into perfecting the techniques. As it stands, they just want to shy away from it in the first place, which is retarding the development of the medium.
Why does it have to be porn?
Because it's what we always end up with.

That's a debatable statement, but even if it's true, it doesn't have to be.
I believe Bioware is capable of doing better than they have on this. I think instead of denouncing what we've gotten thus far we should be challenging them to do better.

Yeah the perpetual "sorry this is too difficult" attitude won't get anyone anywhere.
Witcher 2 style.
It is about treating the player as an adult. It's sex. Most human adults engage in it or have done so. The game is meant for adults with its rating. As such, portray sex the way an adult views it.
Witcher 2 sex cutscenes are quite normal in a movie with an M rating or even in a book with an M rating, albeit descriptively. So why not have it in games ?
If we cannot get over something as fundamental, something as basic and something as human as sex, how will games grow as a media ?
Funnily enough, you don't see this type of bickering and varying difference in opinion when if comes to sex if you visit the Witcher forums or other CDPR's forums. Maybe because they are European I suppose.
Is this weird prudishness and starkly different opinions on sex a North American thing ? ![]()

On a different matter yes, but for sex scenes I couldn't be bothered; I don't even want well made sex scenes. I'm just not interested, and I don't think spending resources on this is worthwhile.

Witcher 2 - where the woman undresses like a bought prostitute, lures the man in, and he has his way with her?
Personally, if there's going to be full nudity like that, I'd like the interaction between the man and woman to be one of equality and mutual satisfactionnnn.

Since I've seen non North Americans object to this as well, I'd say it's more of a "We don't need to see full details of our video game characters humping" thing.

And yet we're perfectly willing to see dismembered heads and gore.
Yep. Go on ahead and call it a double standard if one wants.
I don't want nor need to see a bunch of pixels fully nude, since I don't see how they add to the story in any meaningful way. The #2-#3 option, where there are states of undress, can leave room for conversation and the emotion of the moment. Seeing them have sex completely nude does nothing for me story wise, where as the violence does. The gore and the violence serve as an underscore to the greater conflict of the game, so I think it serves a narrative purpose.
The Sin, as you might have seen from my first post, they aren't doing full nudity anyhow. So it's a moot point.
Edited for tone. Sorry if I came off as harsh TK, that wasn't my intent.
So, I went ahead and looked up the Witcher 2's sex scenes so I could comment on this fully. Seems to me that the big difference between DA and Witcher is that the Witcher has pixelated nipples and a more passive receiving partner. The one with Triss wasn't too bad, but rather awkward in timing and Geralt looked like a dope. "ooh naked lady must get there quick."
I wasn't all that impressed and I tend to think people equate nudity with maturity.
I like that Dragon Age sex scenes at least are a mix of lust and emotions.
The truth is people just want their pixelated, uncovered boobies to gawk at...
And I'd argue for some more equality on that front, but to be perfectly honest, I really don't have any dying urge to see some pixelated dude's junk.

I, on the other hand...
I hope the sex scenes will be like in Mass Effect.
