Fade to black is fine.
Honestly, i would be perfectly okay if no sex occured at all or was even implied. If my character is in a relationship with someone, then I'm going to assume they're banging off-screen anyway.

So they should handle it in a mature way instead of the full nudity sex scenes that reek of "Look! Boobies!" mentality.
Is that really what you think when you see nudity in video games? Perhaps you aren't quite as mature as you think you are, is it really the game's fault that you can't take full frontal nudity at face value?
Witcher 2 style if they can handle it.

If I want to watch porn, I have the whole of the internet at my disposal. I don't need Bioware to make it for me.
I just don't think they should shy away from showing nudity when appropriate.
One of the things that was ridiculous about DAO's romance scenes was the underwear, especially with Morrigan. If she's still wearing her default outfit at that point, you have the bizarre implication that she took off her clothes and then put on a bra just for that scene.
Traynor's first romance scene in ME3 also comes to mind; why is she in the shower in a bra and panties? Why does Shepard not take off her own clothes when joining her in the shower?
Now, I wouldn't mind avoiding nudity through clever camera angles, but if that wasn't possible, they should have stepped up and included nudity instead of this absurdity. That's not immature, that's logical.

Yea they would freak out too easily. Make the biggest deals about nothing sometimes.

Traynor's sex scene defies any and all understanding. From start to finish.

Why does she take a shower with the door open ? Why in underwear ? Why would Shepard allow her in her shower when they're supposed to play chess ? why ? WHY ?
I love Sam's romance, especially the banter in the ship, but that scene...it's just a massive attack against all form of logic and common sense.

Even more strange is when Shepard joins her. Fully. Clothed.
Most hilarious version I've seen of that was Shep wearing her full officer uniform.

I just youtubed the shower scene and LOLed but i do like her VA . Now they could have used angles and the closeness of their bodies to do a tasteful nude scene without showing anything . I am guessing that most of us don`t wear clothes in the shower.

Well if it'll increase the chances of a hot friend joining me like in ME, maybe I'll start! ![]()

Just fade to black and keep it classy. I don't have a problem with sexuality or nudity, but Bioware has made it clear they are not interested in realistic depictions of sex, and that is fine, I know what it looks like. So, instead of any weird dry humping in full plate armor, just fade to black and keep it classy.

This is the first time I've watched the shower scene and... that could've been a lot more romantic sans clothing and with the right camera angles. Clothed as they are, they kinda look like strangers groping in a gym locker room
Tasteful nudity could add to the romantic story. Depending on the character's personality and sexuality (not gender preference), it could portray trust, vulnerability, closeness, etc. That said, everybody expresses their sexuality differently so it'd make sense that some LI scenes might not display any nudity because it doesn't fit with their character (maybe they're shy or insecure and keep most of their clothes on, who knows).
I don't really care what route DA:I takes as long as it adds depth to the romance.

I'm in tears right now ![]()

As I said(though you edited it out I've noticed.
), some games do it well but most do not.

And the Dragon Age team lacks the maturity to do it well? I guess I see where you are coming from.
From the simplest terms, I look at it like this:
Not all R rated movies "need" to have nudity in them to be mature. Some R rated movies even have fade-to-black scenes, with the rating due to mainly language and violence. Not all adult fantasy or horror novels "need" nudity to have mature themes either.
Using the argument of adding nudity for the sake of "maturity" doesn't wash one bit with me. In fact, I think it's a more mature thing to keep it tasteful and focus more on the emotions than the physical body. I can look at nudity at any time I wish, pixelated or otherwise. It isn't often that I can be apart of a meaningful moment from a great story, and that is one of the biggest reasons why I play BioWare games.
I'm not knocking those that enjoy full nude sex scenes in other games. To each their own on that one. I just think such a thing would be jarring and unnecessary for the Dragon Age games.
Hello everyone!
Romances have been a topic of discussion for many years in Bioware games, including the sex scenes - which I will bring up in larger detail here. While at first this topic might seem juvenile, I think that how a sex scene is treated says much about the feel and mood of the game. If it's poorly done it might harm the experience, and it can be argued it should be left out entirely because it might no enhance the player experience.
There's been plenty of different sex scenes in Bioware games (and other games!) before Inquisition. So, which one of the following would you prefer to be used in Inqusition?:
- Fade to black (https://www.youtube....h?v=uBFIzdbx7w8 and https://www.youtube....h?v=HKAbJhiCJNo)
The scene fades to black as soon as it's clear where it's headed and you get to use your own imagination. Simple but fairly effective, and no risk of nudity (unless there's a cuddle scene afterwards, which might show some skin).
- Sex, but in underwear (https://www.youtube....h?v=LvGu0xLFwJc)
There's sex, but no nudity.
- Nude sex, but with clever angles to hide nudity (https://www.youtube....h?v=Pl-I09LjCkk)
Far more risque than number 2 - includes tasteful nudity.
- Full frontal sex (The Witcher 2 sex scenes, wont link due to forum guidelines. Google it, but beware of nudity)
There's sex with full frontal nudity but without being obscene. Leaves little to the imagination.
If you have any other thoughts or suggestions about this, feel free to share!
Please be sure to follow the Bioware forum guidelines when discussing this subject, and remember that we're all mature here, let's not turn this topic into something inappropriate. Thanks!
#1. Because this game is intended for a mature audience, those who play it should be able to "get" what is about to happen. Therefore there is really no reason to waste time and resources on a surpurfluous scene.

They aren't doing just FTB.

I don't think necessity enters into the equation. If games were made solely on necessity, we never would have moved passed Pong.
none
Guideline: "While I enjoy well-made sex scenes, I don't need to see everything. However, what I see must be believable."
That means: Preferred option would be 3. I have no objections to 4. 1 would be a minor disappointment but DAI would lose no points for it. 2 is an abomination, burn it with fire.
BTW, everyone who equals TW2's scenes with porn has no idea of what they're talking about or really warped standards. The elven bath scene is beautiful.

We would've never made Pong. ![]()

Really does not matter to me. Sex scenes are one of the things I do not care about in bioware games.
