I know it was recently confirmed that jumping is in the game, but do we know whether it is free jumping vs. set jump-points.

What I mean is, can we jump all over the map? Can we bunny-hop from one encounter to the next?

Or is it more like we come to a narrow fissure, and a prompt appears to jump, but only in that spot?

I don't really care either way. I'm just curious.

Lol I hope it's bunny-hopping, now :P

I'm sure it's something like AC, but with out all of the acrobatics.

I doubt they'd have scripted/specific spots to jump on like in Mass Effect 3, considering the amount of freedom and open world-ness they've shown so far, unlike ME. But it would be cool if we got clarification.

In Legend of Zelda they have autojump, you just run to a ledge and it autojumps for you!

I think its going to be autojump, because autojump is just the neatest thing I can think of.

Its called Auto-jump!

Reading that the characters will be able to jump made me nervous.

If its one thing I hate more than anything in games, its jump puzzles. Even when I complete them without dying umpteen times, I just don't get any enjoyment out of it.

I would sacrifice the Inquisitor's LI to a demon if it meant avoiding a jump puzzle.

Titanfall-esque double jumping and wall running semi-confirmed rumor.

I am imagining that it will be similar to jumping in the Elder Scrolls games (not the MMO, as I've no idea how it works in that).  I know it's akin to heresy to compare the two here, but it's the closest comparison I can think of for how I'm assuming it will work: you can jump freely, but it's used primarly for mobility in the world, not for platforming-style puzzles.

So, in Oblivion and Skyrim, there are a small handful of what might be considered "jumping puzzles": things that you can get to by cleverly figuring out how to manipulate the physics well enough to jump to them.  But unless you're into it, they're not usually worth doing.  They're by no means necessary to the game, and even if you're a completionist you can probably figure out another way to get the items that are out of your reach.

That's how I'm picturing it, anyway.  I'm probably wrong, if for no other reason than because I said it on the forums.

I hope it's vaulting, not jumping. Though if the level designers never really take jumping into consideration, it probably wouldn't bother me.

I think the party might keep us safe? Platforming is probably a fair bit trickier to implement if you also need to have the party following along behind you, unless they park the party somewhere and make you go solo (and the designers have commented on that not being ideal for DA in recent times).

Oh, I hope it's the ability to jump all over the place. Nothing makes a long trek back to camp more enjoyable like mashing the jump button and having your player character bounce around like Tigger high on cotton candy and so-bad-it's-good pop music.

Jump up, jump up, and get down.

Wow, I didn't realize jumping was announced. That is. .. surprising. I guess it is for world exploration and not for combat. But still, very weird for a Dragon Age game.

Any chance they announced harmonic combos for Dragon Age?

bunny-hopping.

definitely.

but if there are some platformer and/or timing quests... yeah, i'm throwing it out the window.

cannot control that damned thing and it's beyond frustrating. i prefer fighting fire-farting, acid-spitting giants with 20 double 2H axes on NM (now with tactical view).

I never understood how jumping adds to a game?  Unless the game is a plat former which this game will not be how dose it help?

Wow, this was news to me as well. Of all the features they might have added... jumping, huh? Weird. I'm curious to see how it plays out. There must be SOME reason for it, why add the ability if there's never a point that it's required? I have to say I'm kind of imagining ME3-style auto-jump points when exploring. I don't see how else you make it work with a party of people trailing along behind you.

How weird. Jumping. Why, man?

For me it adds the feel I am in full control of the character I am playing, which I don't get without there being able to jump. I believe jump makes sense in a game which is more open world as DAI will be instead of being stuck to the ground as in more linear path games. If is the difference in the MMO market between Guild Wars 1 and a lot of other MMOs in which you can jump. And just the ability to jump doesn't mean it means people want to just jump around repeatedly, it is just the ability to jump over smaller obstacles.

I hope it's autojump. I kind of hate how in MMO's everyone can jump over everyone's heads. I guess it makes up for not being able to climb, but with DA:I looking otherwise realistic, it would annoy the crap out of me. And a normal-human scaled jump would be almost pointless.

Auto jump would make it so you can jump over things that make sense to be jumped over, with an animation more custom to that sort of jump.

I think a jump feature like in the Fable games would work for this.  You know run up to a fence or a pond or a cliff or whatever and hit A to jump it.  Otherwise it will just mean getting around the "Open World" will be a pain in the ass as everything will be on different levels and climbing mountain or whatnot will be button mashing hell.

I really can't see DAI having any "true" platform jumping in the game just because the player character can jump. I believe jumping is a natural feature for an "open world" game.

I can't say I agree with only autojump just because in an MMO players may or may not jump over each other. It is doubtful your companions are spontaneously going to jump over you at random. Heck, in the MMOs I have played you can never truly jump over someone and mostly just through each other. And even then this is not an MMO, so nobody can even do that you in DAI. With just autojump I would still get the feeling my character is stuck to the ground with the game deciding for me what I am allowed to jump over or not.

I'm all for jumping. I would like the ability to jump down the sides of mountains(a bit at a time of course not top to bottom) as well as over fences.

It's all good just as long as there is no swooping.
