Tevinter doesn't consist only of Seheron. That's just a small-ish island that Tevinter and Par Vollen are constantly fighting over most heavily. It's not either side's major asset. We don't have magic today, so it's not a very accurate comparison. But that's also sort of the point, the dwarves have made strong headway in discovering a way to make black powder. If Tevinter should strengthen relations with the Dwarves during the Chantry's downtime with the lyrium trade, or even if they should happen to steal the formula at any point by other means, the Qunari may be sunk. Their whole strategy hinges on this one advantage, which puts them in a precarious place in comparison to Tevinter, which doesn't really have an equitable weak point.

True it wasnt the most accurate comparison. But their explosives arent their only advantage: They have numbers, they have formidable combat skills, they have agents spread throughout Tevinter, they, too, have mages that can be used to devastating effect, and their navy as well.

I'm not sure if they do have numbers? The demographics of Thedas are shaky, at best, but the actual land area of the Tevinter Imperium is quite large on the map and it's not made clear exactly how large Par Vollen is. Qunari aren't completely reliant on the black powder, no, but it would be a very big blow for them if they lost the monopoly. I could see either side winning, depending on how things swing, but I definitely don't think the win is a guarantee in Qunari favor.

I disagree, the Qunari do not rely on gunpowder as their "one advantage" they have a work ethic second to none, they're unrivaled in discipline and have individuals whose sole role in Qunari society is to win wars. Knights and men at arms of thedas have lives they go back to, families to care for etc, Qunari who are given a task, only live to fulfill that task, nothing else, no families to worry about, no distractions, just success in their field. In my opinion the only reason they had to agree to a truce was because of numbers and unfamiliarity with Thedas, they literally went into a brand new continent blind and overcame every obstacle until thedas banded together and they still couldnt "win" only squeezing out a truce. Now that Qunari know what kind of enemy they are facing, their next invasion may be worse.

Edit: Take away their gunpowder and you still have a united war machine

I definitely think we'll be able to influence it, if the plot is going to be a heavy feature.

You're right, the one thing the Qunari will always have is their unified, "war machine" battle strategy. I definitely don't think it's a guaranteed win for Tevinter, either. I could see it going either way, depending on how a variety of issues turn. I think, like I said to Moniker, that we will probably be able to influence the victory some if this is a major feature in an upcoming game.

That would make an interesting war campaign

Lets hope, only problem is, if the Qunari invasion becomes the main plot line for a game, if it isnt the final game then i dont see any way they'd just allow the Qunari to be victorious in taking all of Thedas. Kind of like how main characters in superhero movies never die, it would bring no emotion out of me because we'd all know the outcome (Thedas 1 Qunari 0).

Qunari collectivism seems to me to rely on a depth of state and ideological control that would be difficult to implement even in the twentieth century of Earth's history; I can't imagine how impossible it would be for a society with much less well developed "technology of government", for lack of a better term.

I find it enormously interesting that even in Kirkwall, where one would imagine the qunari to be under severe pressures to stay united, the relatively small qunari contingent still hemorrhaged troops to the Tal-Vashoth. There's no way to know about numbers or proportions, but I think that that's indicative of just how well the qunari "unified, 'war machine' battle strategy" actually works in practice. Even if there are considerable benefits associated with it, there are also considerable costs to the structure.

I think that, probably, the winning/losing participant of the primary "races" wont be a flawless victory for anyone and will always be only subtle changes. I have a feeling there are most likely going to be objectively evil "big bads" in most games, like the Blight and probably whatever is causing the veil tears. It would be nice if we could make massive changes to the world, but like you said, it's not really practical for future game making.

Thats the problem, those issues are universally agreed to be evil, however not everyone in thedas disagrees with the philosophies of the Qun in fact, there were a lot of converts and i'd be willing to bet if we recieve more incite about the teachings of the Qun and actually are able to get a first hand look at how QUnari society runs, players may be willing to change their minds let alone citizens of Thedas. (Remeber the Viscounts son in DA2) So to make the Qunari the inherient "big bads" of the game would be a mistake in my opinion, id rather it be an issue that the player decides whether it is right or wrong, which would make sense as the final game so there is no need for continuity issues.

I agree, Qunari aren't going to be that kind of objectively evil enemy. I don't think any of the standard races in Thedas will be. That's why I doubt you'll ever get a chance to allow any single race to completely overthrow all of Thedas. I think they may deal with the wars, but it would probably be more subtle in upcoming games as far as the outcome. In the last game it is possible that they'd allow something more major, but it's hard to know what the "major" issues will be off that far in the future.

Well I am going to be a female qunari mage, so i bet they'll just love me lol , BRING ON THE CARNAGE WOO!!

Actually, I think being a Vashoth Female Warrior will anger the Qunari more. They know men and women can be mages, but a warrior is a male only role.

Of the two, I see Tevinter taking the opportunity first. The Qunari have pretty much honored their ceasefire with the rest of Thedas up to this point.

I'd agree only if we didnt receive two warnings in the past (Sten and Arishok) pretty much foreshadowing an upcoming invasion. Plus Sten even says he wouldnt look forward to facing the Warden if they met again during the invasion, implying that it'll occur in their lifetime

Sten basically tells you it's inevitable that they'll attack within his lifetime, though, and it doesn't look good with him being the canon Arishok now.

I don't think the Imperium can afford to commit anything major like an invasion, so if they do something it'll probably be small scale. Or based on manipulation or something.

Agreed, a war machine to the north that they're currently at war with, Antivan Crows to the east, and 3 very powerful nations to the south. Not in the ideal position to show any aggression

Oh, I'm not saying they'll keep it forever. But I do think they ralize they can't do anything until they deal with Tevinter first, and would rather focus on them.

Meanwhile, Tevinter isn't exactly a trustworthy nation and who knows how much longer they'll wait before they see the rest of Thedas as a resource against the Qunari.

False, they don't see mages as men or women at all, they see them as an ''it'' a thing.

I think they're labelled as "it" as in their place in Qunari society. Im sure they still recognize gender

Not that of a mage they don't. Gender is only relevant to mundane Qunari as that defines their role, mages are neither men nor women to them.
