Why should it matter if you cast against shields?

In general, or why did I think that?

In general it shouldn't work against shields because the power shouldn't be designed that way.

The reason I was wondering if it didn't was because I thought the if statement around the damagetaken statement was looking for shields.  It is similar to the one for AI determining if the AI should cast Reave on a target.

Just came in to say I thought the title said, "Sugarfree..."

That is all.

When I saw it earlier, I thought so too. My glasses are an important part of my person.

They used Splenda, which tastes like sugar because it is made from sugar.

As far as I know, reave works on shielded targets, doesn't it? Not sure if it does damage (although I think it does), but it certainly gives DR and primes for BEs.

So... Why should it not give DR against shielded Geth? I don't Get it...

Pun intended XD

We are talking about all sorts of things, but to get to the specifics, I thought that the specific bit of code that applied the DR is set in an if statement that checks to make sure the resistance is not shields.

There are all sorts of effects that are applied on impact, and because one occurs on impact it does not mean another must be applied.

You are right that in game it appears that it works on whatever, whenever.  I am not sure if it is a bug, a MP change that I can't see, or if I misinterpreted the code I posted earlier in the thread.

Ah I see. Can't really help there, sorry :)

This is truly awkward. I was assured in the store that it´s very unique model, latest fashion, a piece that no other Justicar will be wearing

Added a video to the initial post. Here is it too. Don't have a capture card, so had to record from my phone.

Shows one late wave (with two Geth Primes) and the extraction wave. In the first section, there was a Hunter and a Trooper standing right behind me while I tanked a Prime (which the other player rocketed). On the extraction wave, I was able to tank multiple Primes, their drones and turrets, while defending in front of the LZ - no need to hide on the other side of the map with their character until the last 20 seconds!

The Lancer/CSMG really synergizes with this build by being able to lean from hard cover. You won't be staggered (except by Bombers or an elbow), so you can really tank the enemies even while waiting for your powers/weapons to recharge.

Another good way to make use of those Shield Cells III is with a Flamer-less Geth Trooper- between Fortification 5a (+15% shield recharge), Fitness 5b (ditto, plus his racial 10%), and Stronghold gear and Shield Cells III, your shield recharge is .72 seconds... To go along with 1300 shields and 40% DR. And alot of killing power. Pretty hard to die with him, and you don't have to use those precious Cyclonic III's and IV's.

q5tyhj - I've specced my Geth Trooper like this in the past. I found that under heavy fire, however the 40% DR (or 80% in hard cover) still wasn't enough to tank, and I would have to duck back in cover for the shields to recharge. Krogans Sentinels can get up to 80% DR (120% in hard cover), but they need to be in Rage mode, which only lasts 30 seconds (plus what Krogan likes to hide behind cover?). The Justicar is the only character that can tank like this all by herself. It was fun to defend the extraction zone, knowing that she could take the punishment from two Primes and their pets in the video.

Oh I'm not saying that the GT is as tanky as the the Asari would be with your build- she clearly has him waaaay beat in the amount of DR she can achieve. But his survivability is still pretty fantastic, so its just another way to make good use of those Shield Cells you otherwise probably aren't using (if you're like me). Also a good kit to use weapons you otherwise don't use as much, because he has no cooldowns and, well, Hunter Mode...

what Krogan likes to hide behind cover

Hiding in cover as a Krogan makes me feel like a filthy pyjak, obviously.

I'd just like to point out again as others already have, you're mistaken on the DR in hard cover.

This is a nice switch from usual builds, primes must hate you.

Watched the video. That's a pretty hard to kill Justicar, so mission accomplished Vanelsa. I'd probably have to tweak it a bit so I could try to milk some offense from the Sphere (maybe still take rank 6b, sacrifice some DR & shield recharge in exchange for the Warp effect) but all in all this is a build that should be taken seriously due to its utility, not just for the player but for the entire team.

I'm basing my DR values on Cyonan's post. For the sake of simplicity, it was easier to say 140% DR gives invulnerability than do the in-cover/out-of-cover calculations and explanations.

One thing that Cyonan mentions is that leaning out of cover reduces the in-cover bonus over a period of 0.5 and 1 seconds. I did not notice a drop in DR with the Lancer in my video.

I am not going to go back to the link, so I am just going to talk about cover DR.

Cover grants 90% DR in the frontal cone (Gold, Insanity).  That is what reduces to 0 as you lean out, fast enough that it basically doesn't matter leaning out of cover.  Essentially this 90%DR is only relevant when in hiding in half height cover and someone is shooting you over it, or maybe in side cover and you are taking a few pot shots from the side.

Being out of cover (ie not docked in cover at all) gives you a 40% damage taken penalty.  Hence if you can stack a stat 140%DR from various powers and melee you can be invulnerable not docked in cover as 140 - 40 = 100%DR.

If you have 100% stat DR you will be invulnerable when docked in cover, even if you are leaning out.

If that's to knock down shields for priming via Pull, why not phasics instead?   If you're up against an armored target which Pull will never be able to prime but Reave can (for some other biotic to detonate), wouldn't disruptor risk overwriting your own prime?

Disruptor Ammo/Overload/Whatever do not "overwrite" biotic primers.  They STACK WITH them.  Here is a simple experiment you can do with the Asari Adept:

1- Prime with Warp

2- Shoot Disruptor

3- Throw (detonates Disruptor)

4- Throw (detonates Warp)

Warp did not get "overwritten" by Disruptor.  It was still there.

-------------------------------------------

Here is another example:

1- Prime with Dark Channel

2- Shoot with Disruptor

3- (teammate) Reave (detonates Dark Channel because it does not interact with Disruptor)

Dark Channel did not get "overwritten" by Disruptor.  It was still there.

Teammates who cry about tech powers overwriting their biotic primers just need to adjust their playstyle accordingly.  (Cast detonator twice if it interacts with tech, grats on your 2x explosions)

-------------------------------------------

It works the other way around, as well:

1- Prime with Incinerate

2- (teammate) Dark Channel

3- Overload (detonates Incinerate bcause it does not interact with Dark Channel)

Incinerate did not get "overwritten" by Dark Channel.  It was still there.
