I always thought the Star-Child would have been more plausible if it said something like: "I created the reapers to fulfill my mandate, they are my solution, but they have gone rogue and I can't control them anymore." or something along these lines. It would kind of explain why Sovereign, for example, is so arrogant.

That's related to a problem I found. The Catalyst explains it controls the Reapers but never elaborates that point. The Reapers in the past game never seemed like the were controlled by something else (they even had unique appearances), so I think the Catalyst should have clarified that a bit.

But I think this "don't care about past games"-attitude at the end of a trilogy just destroys the story as a whole.
