Platinum Solo: Tips For The Asari Justicar

So, the next Asari up my list is either the Justicar or the Valkyrie. Due to some bad luck with the Valkyrie in terms of the objectives, I decided to switch it up to the Justicar. In teamgames, I usually shine as a support player with the character, watching the flanks and protecting allies. I even top the scoreboard with her, at times. But during this first ever solo serious attempt with her, I was perplexed. I decided I'd fight Cerberus, because I like to fight them. Reapers are supposed to be the easier faction according to many, but I find them very challenging due to the constant pushing of the Banshees. So, Cerberus it was...

Wave 1 really flew by, I was in a great groove, and I felt zero pressure. Then came wave 2, and I got destroyed by the 3 Dragoons. (2 gels, 2 Opp Packs = Time to Quit) During my Plat solo with the Vanilla Asari Adept, I dealt with them rather easily. Just a Warp/Throw combo and they were done. The Justicar's Biotic Explosions just don't compare to her sister's explosions, honestly. She's a character that has no way to neutralize 3 of them, all at once, because of the lack of a hardhitting power like Warp or Throw; since the goons are pushing you, they are usually with all 3 of them. The classic Reave-Sphere-Reave back-to-back explosions are extremely hard to set up this way, so, it's a very challenging wave for the Justicar. A Sphere-Reave combo only takes about half of the Dragoons armor away, so that's not sufficient, either. It should kill them with a Power Amp IV, but that's not an option for a Platinum Solo for me, at this point.

Do you guys have any tips for me, on how to deal with the pressure that the Dragoons put on the Justicar? During teamgames I never ran into this issue, so it really surprised me. My build is a classic, Adept 66644 build. I used Warp Rounds IV, combined with the Acolyte (Heavy Barrel/Power Amp). Pretty straightforward + Geth Scanner and a Cyclonic IV.

Or are the Reapers actually the better faction to face for her? Any help is appreciated :)

Yes: use a real gun ;)

Haha, nice one - Deerber! :P Suggestions? Are you actually saying is should go the soldier Justicar route?

Was gonna suggest you use something for armor, but your build has a Hurricane...

Perhaps give the CSMG a try? It's more accurate at range so you can start to wear down those charging Dragoons sooner than face to face.

My other suggestion was Adrenaline over Cyclonics. Being able to get away or dodge them is better than having more shields for them to knock down IMO.

Not necessarily, if you prefer not to. But taking a CSMG alongside the acolyte is going to dramatically improve your chances of surviving, your time, and... Your apparent IQ

Hurricane works too, of course. And other guns too.

Like Deerber said, a bigger gun might help.

While the acolyte really does shine on shields, it can leave you without any real way to take care of enemies with armor quickly when you need to e.g. Dragoon rush. For this reason, I would suggest carrying atleast a second weapon, or switch the acolyte for maybe the talon. I have still failed every platinum solo I have attempted, so merely offering a suggestion based upon my failures.

This is what I used for my 34min plat solo with her. So easy.

Clyde,

Yeah, the Hurricane does have a lot of kick. The problem with my CSMG, is the fact it's still a level II. Therefore, the ammo still sucks on it.

CSMG II is too low, yes. What level is your hurricane? Maybe if you coul provide us with a link to your manifest, we could make other suggestions :)

with your set-up, dealing with dragoons will involve a little bit of set-up on their rush waves.  strategically placing the bubble in choke points for BEs will make a big difference.  Also, remember to shoot them at range to initiate their dodge to give yourself a little more time to prepare if you need.

Hurricane is a Level X, as seen in the link I provided with the build.

As for the status of my Ultra Rares:

CSMG II

Paladin IV

Spitfire IV

Valkyrie VII

Talon VII

BPP VII

Venom VIII

Javelin VIII

Lancer XI

The rest is maxed out B)

Ah perfect, then the Hurricane is a good fit ;)

Do what HeroicMass said, and shoot the hurricane while your powers are recovering. They're gonna go down like babbies ;)

Edit seeing your URs ahead: personally, I would take a wraith. But if you're uncomfortable with the slightly higher CD, a hurricane is ok too, I guess.

I use the same build too.

Reapers melt with this build

Yeah, and some sleep :P I was really tired during the attempt, so I wasn't reacting quickly to everything. Still, wave 1 was over in like a minute. So if I can get past the Dragoon waves, I feel pretty confident that I can do the solo with her.

NightSlasher,

Yeah, I was really torn between both factions. Cerberus can be easy, because of her ability to deal with Phantoms and how much those enemies are worth to the wave budget. Reapers have a lot of easy enemies, like Brutes/Marauders/Ravagers. How much is a Brute worth, compared to a Phantom?

Brute - 70, dragoon - 70, phantom - 80, ravagers -60

I prefer Reapers with her, easier but takes little longer because of Banshees. Had almost same build but I was using 6b in Reave and mainly using Acolyte (magazine + power magnifier).

you could wathc the plat solo from ffandrade, which made me use her more :). Then i sucked with it till i put an adrenaline module III on her. It was better even for survivability

Are you actually saying is should go the soldier Justicar route?

You don't have to play a class as a "soldier" only because you're taking a strong weapon, the same way you don't have to play a kit "powerbased" and then limit yourself to guns that give you 200% CD. Taking an additional hard-hitting something is better than 1 second faster recharge on 95% of all setups IMO

Losing!

Mate, that's a great point :) But as I said, even a little more sleep might do the trick. Still, I could take a Harrier X with the piercing mod. That gives me a power recharge of +110%.

I was going to suggest Lady Harriet.. your Lancer IX is an ok choice to but Harrier accuracy will be needed in the clutch. I would also take the last two ranks off pull and put them into fitness. Rank 5 is a very nice asset to have for Asari since their dodge depletes shields.

...and for god's sake take that heavy barrel of the acolyte. The gain is so minimal on that gun, it isn't worth any type of cooldown penalty

I play her on platinum, but haven't soloed, so for what it's worth. ;) Yeah, she needs a _big_ gun on platinum. Acolyte isn't enough DPS pressure. Since most of the combat is close range, an SMG or shotgun is what I'd go with. Reave + warp ammo is crazy powerful. :D
