I started this thread in the off-topic lobby, but I think it may have more relevance here.

I really like off rails sandbox games like Skyrim, Fable 2, and Western RPGs like KOTOR & Dragon Age. I also like having the ability to customize my PC and party characters like in RPG Maker (for the Playstation) and RPG Maker 3. What if the two were combined? You could create your PC at the start of the game with a pre-built history ala DA:O (was a human noble, city elf, etc) or Oblivion/Skyrim (imprisoned for ???/arrested for being associated with rebels) and later when you meet and recruit your teammates you're able to customize them as well such as giving them a different name, choosing gender, race (elf, human, dwarf, cat person, etc) skin tone, baldness, fighting style, voice+attitude type (diplomatic, snarky, aggressive).

I know it seems like a lot but think about it like in the vein of Dragon's Dogma where you get to customize your pawn(s) I say pawns because you can have 3 main pawns (including your default MP) on any Arisen playthrough depending on how many XBL/PSN accounts you have. I have 3 accounts, so I have 3 fully customizable pawns; meaning at any time I can change their gender, hair, skin, fighting style and even personality. On that note I have to say playing through 60 plus hours of Dragon's Dogma made me care more for my companions and want the best for them since they were mine from the get-go.

The call name wouldn't be an issue as everyone would be referred 'in-game' by their surnames (ala Hawke) or a nickname like "Sparrow"  or "Prince/Princess" (Fable 2/3). I know many will think it impossible or not a function worthy of implementation, but really you wouldn't be creating an entire game, just you and your companions - when you arrive somewhere to meet a potential new companion you could speak to a steward or a knight and answer a few questions (bringing up a character creator) which will implement your comrade or a "I don't care/quick play" function which will generate the default companion.

Opinions? It's 2014 in the age of gaming, I don't think it's entirely unrealistic imho.

Wrong series.

Why? Because I used other titles as references? I'm merely stating "what could be".

One of DA's signatures are the companions who are fully fledged characters; removing that is like removing Mario's ability to jump, you just don't do that.

"What could be" ? Well certainly nothing like DA.

Okay fine. I get the point. Let's lock this thread up then before it gets anymore rabid in here.

I liked that about Dragon's Dogma, but I think because your pawns were otherwise so... lifeless, they really needed to implement something like that level of customization to help you care about them. And I think also they did that in DD to underline the fact that the pawns weren't human, they were basically tools for you to forge and use in your mission.

Dragon Age characters are already individuals and so full of life, I don't think it'd make sense to customize them beyond something superficial like possibly some hair style/color changes.

Its a cool concept but it would severely limit the companions personality and your interaction/relationship with them.
