We know that her father was a chevalier so she has Orlesian roots, and after the Templar-Mage conflict I doubt she would remain in Kirkwall with it being in such shape (you could also argue that she would remain at her post solely for that reason). Whatever the case,I hope that we at least get to see her in Inquisition, even if it's just a cameo as a quest giver or something.
Chances of seeing Aveline?

Pretty sure Varric stated in the Epilogue to DA2 that she left Kirkwall. I would love to run into her in DAI, but the chances of seeing her will likely be determined by how much Exalted March (The canceled expansion to DA2) was integrated into DAI. If she does show up, my guess is that she would be in Ferelden, but who knows.

We since Cassandra has already proven to be a woman shaped battering ram do we really need Aveline again?

Yeah, chances are she went back to Ferelden to serve as a guard or soldier after the gang leaves Kirkwall. Though to be honest, she of all of them I saw as staying there.

Yes, Aveline always seem to see herself as Ferelden.

And...? Cassandra is a confirmed companion not Aveline, if she does make an appearance it's highly unlikely she would be recruited, thus I see no reason the original "woman-shaped battering ram" can't make an appearance.

If you take Aveline with you to see King Alistair (I think the same happens with Queen Anora, not sure,) he even offers her a job back in Ferelden. There is a good chance that after the companions separated, her and Donnic went back to Ferelden to join Alistair's royal guard. If we were to see her again, that's my guess as to where she ended up.
It could work for the crisis Rivalry path too, where you can drive her out of the Guard entirely. The only thing that would change is that Donnic wouldn't be around (assuming you didn't do The Long Road.)

I agree. I always did like her. She's one out of two characters that I haven't been able to bring myself to rival (three if you count Varric.) I just liked her too much the way she was to rival her. ![]()

Out of curiosity, who is the other character you could never bring yourself to rival?

This isn't popular, and I know I'm going to get a couple of tomatoes thrown at me for it. The other is Isabela. I like her just the way she is, faults and all. I haven't been able to consider rivaling her after she says, "They don't know me. I know me." It just seems wrong to change her, even "for her own good." I've looked up the results of the rivalry path and I know that her character development from that is pretty interesting. I just can't do it for myself. To each their own; I can understand why folks might want to rival her.

If Aveline does show up, I would really like for her to have one scene with Isabella. Their vitriolic relationship made for some of the most amusing dialogue.

Yeah it happens with Anora to, she talks about how Fereldens ruler has offered to reinstate all Officers of the Ferelden army, she wouldn't be part of his Royal Guard though (She never was) She would return to her job as an officer in the Ferelden Royal Army

I was thinking that after Kirkwall, Alistair/Anora might want someone that fought along side the Champion as a part of their personal guard. <shrug> I know she was never an actual member of the Royal guard (just the Ferelden army.) We're in agreement here though.

She talks about returning to Ferelden on a rivalry path, so my guess she is there and not Orlais.

It is. You can earn up to +130 rivalry points in the game.

I've never rivaled Bethany either, but I forgot to add her to that list.
I like her the way she is too. I guess I should have said out of the permanent companions.
Merrill I have rivaled before, mainly because of that stupid mirror. Nothing good is going to come of that, and even the devs backed that statement up.

I thought it was like getting friendship with Carver. Not impossible, but a right pain in the arse.
Anyhow, back to Aveline. It seems like a safe bet we'll likely see her again in Ferelden. I see few reasons as to why not.

From the wiki:
Rivalry with Bethany can generally be earned by choosing aggressive responses, by siding against mages or by exploiting Fereldans.
