Rivalry with Bethany can generally be earned by choosing aggressive responses, by siding against mages or by exploiting Fereldans.
So from Hina's post, it looks like basically being a total jerk is the only way to go. For a friendship with Carver, you follow those same guidelines. 
I'd love to see Aveline again, probably most out of any DA2 companion; she was my favourite by far.

I feel the same way. It would also make sense for her to talk to the Inquisitor, since Aveline is probably on the list of those last to see Hawke.

The thing is, you have to be really really aggressive to get Bethany to rival you. I've been a pro-Templar/pro-Chantry character as well and still didn't get her out of friendship. Unless you're a total jerk, Bethany is going to be your friend no matter what. The opposite applies for Carver; I've been a pro-Circle mage, picking out the answers he likes and he still wouldn't befriend me.

She can? I thought that was true for Origins, but I thought the only characters you could get rid of outright in DA2 was Isabela, Anders and Fenris.

I've gotten both Bethany as a rival and Carver as a friend without mods or cheats. Yes, the answers in game are actually pretty mean with the voice acting adding to it.

If you don't have enough relationship points with her, she will side with the Templars if you side with the mages. You can kill her, but you have to try. It's the same with everyone except Varric.

I didn't mind Zevran's, since he was a full blown quest line. It was short, but at least it was interactive. King Alistair's appearance could have been handled a lot better. While there was some plot stuff in there (like his remarks about Orlais,) it was quickly buried a succession of catch phrases. "Stinky cheeses," "swooping is bad" (I wanted to smack that knowing smirk off his face for that one,) and "ball and chain."
Even if it's just a quick conversation, hopefully Aveline can at least tell us a little more of what it was like with Hawke right after Kirkwall went straight to hell.

I hope she gets more, not plot important but atleast one or two missions with her

Most of us speculated that because of the events with Hawke, she might be part of the Royal Guard
