Most of us speculated that because of the events with Hawke, she might be part of the Royal Guard

Yes! I'd absolutely love that. And it's another way to connect the stories of the Warden and Hawke.

I remember hearing a theory a while back that Aveline was the dead body Varric was kneeling over in the Fires Above trailer. Completely baseless, as far as I'm aware, but I wouldn't have any problem with it.

I hate being out of likes.  That would be a great idea.  :D

And with the new engine maybe Ferelden's armor can get a slight redesign too  :D

Aveline is the only DA companion that I have absolutely, actively disliked.

While I hope she's included for her fans, I also hope that encountering her is very, very optional.

It would be cool if we could see Aveline in DA.I in some capacity. Maybe as someone else mentioned in this thread as a garrison commander. I hope we get to see other DA companions in cameos or support roles such as spies, garrison commanders, trainers ect..

I always saw Aveline putting down roots in Kirkwall. Maybe even taking over temporary rule of the city to restore order in the wake of Meredith's death.

Of course, if she did leave it'd be logical she'd return to Ferelden, so I think there's a decent chance we'll see her in Inquisition.

Ha! I feel the same way. I didn't dislike her intensly, but she wasn't one of the favorites.

I apply a certain level of intensity to the word "dislike". There are characters I love, characters I like, characters I'm neutral or conflicted on, and characters I actively dislike. I try to avoid using the word "hate" as that's to strong(though I'm sure I've slipped up and used it a few times), but it's still more than just "I don't like her".

There were characters I had problems with; Wynne, Fenris, DA2 Anders, but there were parts of them I liked. Aveline, not so much. Outside of her banter with Isabela, I despised everything about this woman.

What's worse is that I really wanted to like her, going into the game. I wanted her to be one of my favorites. That just did not end up happening.

Do we rly need to see every old character from previous games for no reason like in da 2 where it was ridiculous

Seeing Aveline again would make some degree of sense. She was a prominent figure in Kirkwall at the time everything went down, a companion of the Champion and an officer in the army. Not only that, but she got an invitation back to Ferelden, where she could return to her old career. If Alistair (and/or Anora) play as large a role in Inquisition as has been stated, then I think it would be quite believable to see her in the King/Queen's royal guard, or as a high-ranking officer in Ferelden's army.

I agree that cameos for the sake of cameos suck, but Aveline is a cameo that would make sense and could be quite natural for her character's progression, if they handle it well.

I'd love to see Aveline again!

She definitely grew on me as a character, at first I found her rather plain, but in time I developed a real interest in her character arc. Plus the banter with Isabela/Varric

i didnt mind her character, i just found it tough to look at her....  i didnt like her character design...  And i really dont see aveline appearing again unless you took the mages side in da2, she more than likely would have stayed captain of the guard if you sided with templars

Aveline is actually one of the DA2 companions I feel would make sense to appear in DA:I

And Isabela as well, i think there's a scene where she mentions she'd love to visit Orlais (correct me if i'm wrong)

I always liked Aveline, it would be interesting to see her making an appearance and to see how she'd look with better graphics! :D Though it seems unlikely due to her duty as captain..

But Varric mentions in Templar's ending, that all companions left Hawke's side for one reason or another. Considering Hawke was Viscount, it means Aveline had left Kirkwall to somewhere else.

And what would be the reason of Isabela's appearance, other than well... Isabela? I'm not sure what she could add to oncoming plots as a cameo, given her character. And i'd hate to see old characters return for the sake of characters.

There has to be a reason? Maybe catching Isabela stealing or probably something else? The devs can give some side story to Isabela. You know, it's not bad to see old characters just for the sake of it.

Its actually one of the worst things you can do to a character.

Ugh no. A character showing up just for the sake of the character showing up is crappy writing to the max and horrible. It in fact ruins the character. ME2/3 and DA2 where filled with this crap that did more damage then good. It also makes the world much smaller.

A reason plot-wise? No, but there does need to be some kind of reason.

Aveline does have one if she shows up, if Isabela did say she was going to Orlais then that would be ok atleast for me

But having cameos just for the sake of it is a big No for me

I hope that if we do see Aveline, we'll learn that she was one of the last companions to flee the city in the aftermath of the events of the Gallows. From her character and her workaholic tendencies, I simply can't see her abandoning Kirkwall without having to be physically dragged away or the situation getting so bad, that even she would think that the city was lost.

As for where she'd end up... Ferelden is a safe bet and most logical choice. While she's Orlesian by descent and honeymooned in Orlais, but I doubt she'd seek refuge there, especially with the Civil War and Elven Uprising. Ferelden is the most stable region (for a given value of stable) at the moment and she definitely deserves a rest.

Not rly she wasn't general of the kirkwall army only capitan of the city guards that probably in mage ending is criminal... Thedas isn't 100 km world with 1000 peoples to meet her if that was coincidence (read no 200 old characters showing up) it would be credible in other case fanservice...

And as i said if cameos are handled healthy like daa when we meet wynne ,alistair/anora and oghren (in his case i have some objections...) sure wynne coincidence alistair/anora had sense everything fine however ridiculous spam with old characters even to point where 3 previous characters are companions and that isn't even close to describe how bio were spaming with old characters in da 2...

What are you talking about? Your companions from Awakening on to Dragon Age II are completely new save for Oghren, unless you're counting Zevran and Nathaniel acting as back-up during the final battle (which I don't). And old companion spam? Really? I can count on one hand how many origins companions returned for some reason or another in the sequel: 5...and only one of them is a companion (Flemeth, Bodhan & Sandal, Isabela, Teagan, Isolde, Bonny Lem, and Cullen don't count since they were not playable in Origins/Awakening), the others aren't even in the game long enough to qualify. Now if we had the entire party camp from Origins plus Awakening making appearances and making themselves available for recruitment then the party roster would reach Chrono Cross levels of ridiculous and then I would agree that their appearances were mainly there to satisfy fans of the original games. I can't agree that this is the case since we get 5 quests involving former companions (I'm not counting Tranquility because Anders is a legit companion and not a cameo & I'm not counting Merrill because same reason as Anders + if you never played teh Dalish origins then you never knew about her anyway) only one of which is mandatory (King Alistair) and the others are skippable (A murder of crows, Finding Nathaniel, Sketchy on the Details, and Faith) not to mention the plot of the game isn't even tied to these cameo quests so it isn't like some indulgent fetch quest revolving around ex-party members with baggage from the previous games just to appeal to the fans... they're side quests that can be skipped if desired.

Eee i was saying that merril , anders and isabela were characters from previous game that were companions in da 2... and thats only beginning when it comes to returning characters in da 2 it was a lot of that... lol i wasn't talking only about companions but about old characters from previous games bohdan and sandal , teagan , isolde ,sketch and much more... and yeah you pointed even more and there is still more than you pointed as i said old characters not only companions... and yes they count becaue they are same characters meet in diffrent countries by different protagonist one after another it is nothing more than spam with old characters...  it is ridiculous and unbelievable.

As i said thedas isn't only society with 1000 peoples to every portagonist in different countries keep meeting same characters over and over again same that cullen is in 3 games in 3 diffrent countries and meet 3 diffrent protagonists when he isn't even semi-major figure in thedas is pure fanservice.
