Unknown enemy? Yeah right... kept track of the last 10 U/U/P matches, and Collectors came up 9 times! Didn't matter if I hosted or not.

Oh and ME4 better have a "Do not join ongoing matches" option.
Edit: Tracking continues... last 2 U/U/P matches were Geth and Collectors. So that sets us at 10/12.

U/U/P searches really just means you're lucky if you don't get a preset Giant or Rio/Reapers lobby.
Collectors? I call you lucky, then, since it's the easiest Plat, I think. Now, Geth Condor would be an entirely different matter...

Were you in one lobby or searching UUP? I have a hard time believing Collectors came up that many times without a lightning bolt striking your ass twice if in the same lobby. If searching UUP what the did you expect?
Faction is probably random. The map isn't.

I was playing some platinum matches with friends about a week ago. For the host's last game UUP got us collectors on ghost hazard. After that match the host left and we did the whole host migration and whatnot, brought in another fourth and our first match with the new host: collectors on ghost hazard. Even months after maxing the manifest I still get trolled to no end by this game.
During the first few months after Collectors came out, I was convinced that they appeared with greater frequency under "unknown" than the other three factions.
Completing Collector Mastery ahead of the other three faction challenges reinforced this. Nearly completing Collector Mastery twice before I finished Cerberus Mastery the first time further reinforced it.
Even now, I am ahead in Collector Mastery, compared to the other three.
But my perception is wrong, because:
- Everyone will face 1 faction more than the others. It would be a massive statistical anomaly, if this wasn't the case.
- Collectors have fewer unit types, and all of its unit types are represented regularly throughout Gold games (An example for contrast would be Cerberus, where Dragoons replaced Guardians on many waves, diluting unit variety.) This is why I consistently complete Collector Mastery ahead of the others.
In my experience, the faction randomness is pretty evenly distributed, even within a single play session. I still notice Collectors more, but that's because every time I see them, I react with, "Dammit, not these guys, again!"

I'd rather say that having 10 out of 12 still does not prove the distribution is uneven. Long streaks are less likely, but not entirely unlikely. Which, in fact, is a trait of randomness.

I have irrefutable evidence that it isn't random.
I was in a solo today and it gave me devices every time.
Then I went to play some team games and after a host migration to my computer the first game was all packages, and then the second game had all escorts.
