I've never known Bioware to put a character in their storyline for no reason other than to make his (in the grand scale) little fan base happy. It's actually quite a small fan base in comparison. There's not many of us. You just hear about Cullen so much because threads like this get started and everyone keeps talking about him, either to ask the "why does everyone like him?" or "Hmmm, I wonder what Cullen's role will be if he's in the game..." We have our own thread just for Cullen speculation so that we can keep to ourselves. So I'm pretty positive that Bioware putting Cullen in the game, it's not fan servicing...I'm positive they have a reason for him to be there.

You can find reason behind any chracter you just have to imagine one and put because cullen had grandmothers in Orlais and we have reason it doesn't change fact that he is in fact fanservice brought in 3 games with 3 diffrent protagonists and in 3 different countries pretty much he is in game because his fans were screaming for that same for his romance. Don't mention that pretty much entire da 2 was one big fanservice crap even dg said that he didn't want remove anders from da and put him in da 2 because he was liked by fans...

however puting same character in different 3 games in 3 diffrent countries and with different protagonist is fanservice why because he shouldn't be there i mean come on how many protagonist will meet cullen in different countries just because well we have to have cullen in game because squee he was no one and random templar could replace him as kinght capitan and then now he is in Inquisition.Pretty much it was ridiculous that 3 hawke companions have meet the warden and then just went to meet another protagonist... coincidence? if you put too much coincidence it stops being coincidence...   

 

There is many characters in DA that appear in many games. Alistair, Isabela, Zevran, Leliana, Sandal and Bodahn, Flemeth, Morrigan and of cource Cullen as well. You mean that alistair in all 3 fates drive to kirkwall and meet hawke because well? As i said Da 2 was one big fanservice with returning characters .

 

Most dumb example is comic book with alistair , isabela and varric traveling together... just to put known faces god if you want make comic book about alistair do that but not give there random known characters...

Maybe it was a small cameo (like Zevran, Nathaniel, Leliana, Alistair Etc) and some were bigger like Anders and Cullen. But fan servicing? Meh. And that fan base you keep talking about? Relatively small. Alistair's fan base, Leliana fan base....all these characters from DA:O and DA2 are actually much larger than Cullen's fan base. Go ahead and actually venture into the thread every once in awhile. You'll see that most of the people posting on there are the same handful they've always been. DG himself called us crazy....until he actually visited our thread.

Yeah swooping is bad shows everything drunk alistair importance and reason to be in game well none just to say "you sound like morrigan" pretty much zevran same ant most returning characters leliana had excuse but then again they put into her pointless and stupid reference to the warden...

Besides that makes setting ridiculous and hardly plausible by making thedas 100 km surface and 1000 peoples in it... if that was 1-2 characters it would be possible to say that now it isn't

Close it down?! Nein Nein Nein!  It has not served its purpose until cullen has been burned at the stake!  We shall rename this thread the ANTI-CULLEN THREAD!

He was kind of flirty with the mage Warden in DA:O, and girls (and apparently some guys) liked his voice and thought the character was handsome.

 

And thats all it is really. All the stuff about how interesting a character he is, you can disregard. If he looked like the Architect no one would be talking about him.

 

To be fair I'm not picking on Cullen fans here. I think thats true for fans of most romanceable characters. Ask them while they like a character and they start rattling off a number reasons except for the primary one...that they just thought the character was attractive.

I'm personally a fan of Cullen for similar reasons that I've been a Davos Seaworth fan for 7 years.  Guess that means I have the hots for him, too. I have to thank you for the revelation that when I favor a character it means I want to bang them.  I never knew.

EDIT: I should also say, as a Cullen fan, the excessive nature of many of the fans is way too much for me as well.  I'd love to have a place to properly discuss him but can't bring myself to participate in the official thread because, quite frankly, it's ridiculous in there.  Even so it's not going to make me hate or dislike a character.  I still think he's cool and look forward to seeing him in DAI.

You know someone hasn't experienced much of the world when they generalize people.  Any other would know that people are far, far too varied in their reasons and opinions to do so.

While I don't argue, there is a scientific reason for this and it goes beyond maturity.

Bioware has their reasons for adding characters, yes there will be some we love and some we hate but dear lord dont get your panties in a twist because hes taking up you LI slot. you know theres an entire game to play right? We know nothing about any of these characters they could all suck or be awesome, we just dont know! >.< Stop assuming something that isn't even out yet, it makes nooo sense. Also if you hate it so much go play something else or make your own game thats full of romance and puppys and rainbows with the characters you like.

I think the fangirls have always been there, but his appearance in DA2 increased his club. He's an interesting sort, though. I like him because he has had some fantastic character development. His obsessive crush on female Amell is quite creepy but it adds to his character - that he has a bit of a weird past. We finally get a character that has a past love or whatever of whom you actually know about! 

 

Also, he was super duper attractive in DA2. I think that has helped his fan club along very nicely. You know how people are and all.

Why is any character 'so special'? Different characteristics appeal to people with different tastes, after all. In my opinion, Cullen has the potential to be an interesting individual with a nice varied perspective - he's a link to both previous games, he's been a witness to some pretty big events in Ferelden and Kirkwall, knew (albeit briefly) both the Warden and Hawke, has seen some of the worst of Templars and Mages. My favourite thing to see in characters is development - I like seeing how they change due to events and experiences, and Cullen could develop along interesting lines.

And to be honest everything should have sense even in fiction unless we are dealing with twisted setting that don't have any rules...
