So after hearing alot of good things about this game I've finally decided to get it. However I'm pretty much stuck straight away at which class to choose and skills/feats to invest in, as someone who's never played this game before I have no idea what class is best for what. I've played every DA and ME game so if someone could perhaps go through the classes in terms of those games I'd be grateful. Thanks for any help in advance. :)

what is your main focus for your first main character?

Base Classes you can choose:

Soldiers are a functional tank with good fighting abilities, low on skills.

Scouts are well balanced of skills and feats. Free Implants and Uncanny Dodge abilities

Scoundrels are skilled focused and excell with Sneak Attacks.

Jedi Classes you can choose:

Jedi Guardian: Similar to Soldier but focus on Lightsaber combat and tanking.

Jedi Sentinel: Well Balanced similar to the Scout. Has a Force Resistance ability when you are fighting against the Dark Jedi.

Jedi Counslar: Excel with the force, Moderate combat ability and skill points.

Non Useable Classes:

Droid: Combat Droid and Expert Droid. You will get 2 droids in the game. One of them is mandatory and one is optional.

As long as you understand the classes, you can't go wrong. You can't cross class your allies without modding. If you are on the PC, there are good mods out. Some of them are able to cross class. Some add new abilities. My advice is play thru it once without a mod.

For a first timer, I’d recommend soldier 8 | guardian 12;
Stats: put 12 points into charisma & intelligence at the start then keep boosting strength.
Feats: take the top line for two weapon fighting (double the lightsaber action) and whatever else looks nice to you.
Skills:  pump persuade… This gives you the best storyline and is the only skill your fellow party members can’t help you with.

For the second play take scoundrel  5 | any jedi 15 and play solo evil!

Final play is scout 8 | sentinel 12... Take the full 18 dexterity at the start with all level points also going into dex and use only pistols for challengingly hard game.

ussnorway has several good points.  There are several different playstyles you can go thru. For example, I am very partial to the Master Two Weapon Fighting with Master Flurry and Critical Strike and Scout/Jedi Sentinel 8/12 combination. My personal recommend Mod is TamerBill's Content Pack 1 after you are comfortable with doing a few good playthru.

Thanks for all the help, I think ill go with scout/ sentinel for my first run as this seems to be the middle ground before going with some of the classes Ussnorway suggested in future playthroughs.

1 thing you will like about the Scout Class, it is does have the best saving throws overall. A Level 8 Scout can flow into Jedi Guardian, Jedi Sentinel, or Jedi Counslar and still be a very good character.

A level 8 Scout Strengths:

Level 3 Implant Feat

Uncanny Dodge 2 Feat

Excellent Saving Throws

Good Skills
