i don´t see any sense in this.
it´s useless to allow only bioware-related groups in a bioware forum. the groups should be here to discuss non bioware-related topics (or at least this would make sense!), if not you can remove the groups completely. just saying, bioware-related groups in a bioware forum, hey... why don´t use the public part of the forum then??
it´s also strange to forbid offtopic-groups, but still allow offtopic in the public part of the forum.

but, if you want to decrease the number of users, this is a good step towards this goal.

So we can't talk about what we like with out a reasonable thought of deletion but what BW wants is ok?  I've seen a lot of MODs close topics and justly so but to arbitrarily draw a line and say no more stifles communication and discovery.  I hope this is not taken to a level of Putanism it is capable of going.

So you're deleting the last bastion I had on this site?

So it's either leave or deal with the trolling issues, toxic environment and all that jazz that you at Bioware have again and again FAILED to fix?!

I'd rather leave.

This feels like I'm being evicted.

Reconsider.

Think this through Bioware.

I guess its one of those ironic things that the people who make this a good community and have friendly discussions are those who will be driven away, while those who are here just to troll will probably stay.

I'm quoting this for emphasis, because this point was made hundreds of times over the last 2 months, since this decision was originally made.

It is frustrating, because it is remarkably easy to see how this decision is going to backfire, and watch the people who know full well that it will backfire proceed to throw away a significant amount of the value BioWare and the users get from this site.

You're not going to end up w/ less trolls and off-topic discussions b/c of this, BioWare; you're going to end up w/ only the trolls and off-topic discussions.

If you want it to make no sense.

What if I told you

It still made no sense

This is an aspect of BW that I was unaware of, so I checked "groups" and found 4329 listings. Many with one to five members. Only a few with a hundred or more. (Of course I didn't scroll all 4329 listings.) Surely BW has a point in bringing this under better management, and I would hope it could be done in a way that still allowed the larger groups of fans to interact freely. I would think a half dozen friends could find other social media in which to interact.

Seems to me the issue is the size of groups, and large number of tiny groups, rather than the content. Of course, I have no idea what is in BW's mind. Just my first reaction as someone who hasn't used groups and doesn't know what he is talking about.

How is it possible that it's okay to discuss My Little Pony in the off-topic section but not in private groups (not that I would ever want to)...

This just doesn't make any sense!

It's just poor leadership. This site and community promotes the Bioware product but the Bioware product is not appealing enough to hold constant, consistent attention. Throwing away a portion of the community is throwing away money which in the end is the bottomline.

I hope whoever made this decision remembers it fondly while polishing up their resume in the future.

I'm wondering how they expect someone that is never around the community website to have any clue how to run it? I guess part of being the Emissary for Bioware Fandom is drawing the short straw and having to deal with the misfits of BSN.

The next step is relevant groups will be shut down if there is too much off topic discussion.

Lol, sad, but sort of funny. You've created a bunch of games that people are so passionate about that they dork around your forum for hours at a time, making friends, and discussing not just those games, but everything in the kitchen sink. So what do you do? You greedily restrict them to ONLY talking about your games, thus, in all likelihood, scaring away many of those fans- essentially shitting in your own bed in the process.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

My only prayer is that the genius responsible for this decision is NOT involved in writing the ending for ME4.

Your software is good but you need to seriously work on your privacy policy/site policy overall.

Most of the groups on this website probably have nothing to do with bioware at all. In fact since we are clearly moderating user made groups why have the hidden functionality or group moderation at all?

This is a very bad move. It is like you WANT to cut your user base in ha...oh wait that is less traffic.

This site suffers from Seagull management.  They fly in, take a crap on everything and then leave.

So what exactly is the point of having social groups that have to stay on topic all the time? Those are called "announcements". How does reducing the community size serve to promote EA products?

The only groups that should be removed are those that have unruly behaviour or used to promote some other company's product (spamming). It's like Youtube banning cat videos because cats are not Google's target audience.

Jessica, please make it clear to management that any policy that does not promote the community should not be supported nor implemented!

Oh yay, the forum is going down the drain.

Now there is no reason to visit this site again besides wanting to read stupid troll posts spread over all categories.

Great work BioWare, great work.

You guys might just as well shut this forum down for good. Why have a forum for discussions when there is no room for discussions?

Weren't the groups meant to keep the off topic stuff away from the main forums?

I really hope they get flooded with all kinds of crap and I hope you guys have fun moderating it.

Maybe re-hire the ninja? Because weirdness is gonna spread all over the place.

Have fun BioWare, you gots it poppin'!

As a shy lurker, this really bums me out.

I only really got into ME3MP because of a long-defunct social group on the old BSN that led to my FL snowballing full of BSNers.  I never really felt safe posting on the main boards (see: member since [along time ago], under [not very many] posts), and definitely never felt safe adding my GT to a "looking for groups" thread.

Though most all of my ME3 FL has been part of [this group], it's only in the last couple of months that I felt comfortable enough to even *join* [this group], let alone post in it. And based on my experiences on another large forum, it's only through becoming comfortable in a group on a large forum that I begin to feel like the main boards are a somewhat safe place to post.

^ edited this and kept anonymous, but it's from a member of one of my groups. thought it was relevant
