I still can't believe what a dumb decision this.
Mind-boggling.
Like giving a ball to someone and then beating the crap out of him because he kicked it.

No feed to keep in contact with our fellow friends on what they're posting, replying to, etc. No more "active" groups because really, Jess, do you even talk about Bioware all the time? I hope not, shiit isn't healthy. When there isn't even a new game out, what do you really expect people to talk about, all the time... without beating a dead horse.
Groups are what kept me active on this site and Bioware in general, till a new game comes out - it is not the "new" info that comes out that excites me because most of it is overhyped PR nonsense, it's the community itself that really makes me enjoy these games, but hey, as much as I love Mass Effect series, I'd rather not spend every single minute speaking about it because well, there are better games out there, I'm saying the exact same thing others have said before and well, it gets old and makes the threads stale and well, the site as a whole.
Now I'm excited to see the trolls feed into this even more.
Are any of you really surprised, though?
Since the social part of the the site has been gone?
My sides, no.
What's even better is giving us this thread as a soapbox and the mysterious lack of Bioware posts since Jessica's OP.
Come in here, tell us why you feel this is necessary and face us.
We're the players who purchase your games, spend our hard-earned money on micro-transactions and DLC, and put our own creativity into fanfics, fan art and other forms of expression from the product that you developed. So all we're good for is our contributions to your bottom line, our opinions and ideas about the game, but not the personalities behind the usernames & avatars?
If I have the wrong idea, and I sincerely hope I do, why doesn't someone with a Bioware tag come in here and straighten it out for me? Because right now, aside from the overall disappointment and the hilarity of your misguided efforts to moderate these forums, I'm starting to think the people in charge don't have a backbone either.
And no, dear Limbs, that wouldn't surprise me at all.
That is one way to kill the forums. Bravo Bioware!
Are any of you really surprised, though?
No. Nobody thinks through their decisions any more in companies. This one was likely made by someone who's not @ all affiliated w/ the forums, or loosely so @ best, and told everyone else who is, "Hey, implement my change for me" and thus we have it.
These forums send mountains of traffic toward BioWare and their games; this kind of censorship is going to drive those same mountains away.
Are any of you really surprised, though?
no, not surprised. rather disappointed and aghast at this incredibly stupid decision.
This thread was opened to discuss your thoughts to keep them from spilling into forum topics.
Priceless.
Good luck with that!

I also don't get the premise of "removal of non bioware content will make it less toxic." Have you looked at the Inquisition forums lately? What I am trying to say is that the quality of the posts is not determined by the topic or category of said topics.
You probably need to find a better moderation system rather than completely removing everything like unsorted data on a poorely implemented binary search.
It reminds me of the time when you limited the number of pictures that a user could post and what do you know? The next few weeks thew new site was filled with so much spam from automated bots.
Your methods are not effective and I am sorry for saying this cause I actually think this is a good website. However, having free software out means it can be criticised and I expressing my right to do so. You need to find a much more efficient security and moderation system as well as work on a few of your policies.
I wonder what the state of this forums will be in a few months. This place has not even been online for a long while and you have made several refinements. Maybe you should have worked on it more before you lauched it.

Seriously, if you close down the "toxic subcommunities", where do you think those users will go? They'll spread themselves out across your forums. They already have accounts here, and they'll be pissed (rightfully so) that you determined their private discussions that they kept away from the public boards have no place on the forum.
You're not taking out the trash, you're cutting a hole in the trash bag.
What happen to not touching the groups when we moved from BSN to Bioware forums?

Lol, knew that wasn't happening

Not surprising, but you think with how upset people already are with Bioware they would not want to pull this again with sugar coated lies.
What happen to not touching the groups when we moved from BSN to Bioware forums?
They didn't touch them. They left them on the old site.
They outright changed the rules for groups. That's touching the group aspect, which she said would not happen.
I still try to find out how this new rule should improve the Bioware Forum.
With the restriction to Bioware only topics either the Groups are or the Forum is obsolete (For some Members problerbly both).
One of the strengths of the Bioware-Forum was the possibility to talk about off-topic stuff. And Bioware always had my respect for allowing this. But with this change about the Groups this Forum become just one of the many Company owned Gameforum without anything special.
I certainly get that it is not in Bioware's interest (it is not in my interesst either) that a Group get abused for Linkspam or offensive behavior (and so on). But I do not see how keeping off-topic discussions in a "hidden" part of the Forum can be considered a abusement of the Groups. Every off-topic post in a Group is one less off topic post in the rest of the Forum but it keep as least one user active over the usewell livetime of the last game release (At least that is my opinion about that).
Btw I think the title of this topic is wrong. Discussing an already made decision is in most cases a waste of time...

I guess the next logical step is to take away the lobby.
It's ironic that the devs and mods don't realize that the chief amount of negativity on this site occurs on their game discussion forums.
Oh well.
May I ask why the hell you care what people discuss in closed off, private groups away from the main forum? Can we not just have fun and talk about stuff we actually enjoy talking about with people we actually enjoy talking to? A lot of us have been around here for a long while, and have made some great friends here, so we seclude ourselves from everywhere else and go to places where we can talk for a moment without promptly receiving a message about our 'inappropriate, off-topic spam' being deleted by BioWareMod04.
Would you rather we spill out to the main forum? I know there's an off-topic forum, but I'm not about to make a new thread everytime I want to talk about something for christ's sake.

Bioware wants to restrict what people are saying, all they will do is drive people away.
