Btw I think the title of this topic is wrong. Discussing an already made decision is in most cases a waste of time...

hrmpf. this "discussion" is worthless as long as no one from Bioware takes part in it. but at the moment the only thing they do is showing desinterest in this topic, and this sends a dire message to the community (or at least to me).

The fact that the revamped Bioware Forum has only been up for a little over two months, and already such ludicrous decisions are being so hastily applied to your site's rule system, all while providing absolutely no rationale to your userbase, is something that raises a number of red flags in my mind. Because the site is still in its infancy, how am I supposed to feel comfortable with the likelihood that this only marks the start of a series of even worse decisions over the coming months/years? If the truncation of your groups is only the first step, what could possibly be next? The complete purge of your off-topic forum altogether if you eventually decide that it's not conducive to your studio culture? (Because, the way your statement was presented makes it sound like a damned good possibility).

But, to ease myself out of this "what-if?" thinking, I highly doubt I'll be sticking around to witness any future idiotic changes that are made down the road, anyways. So thanks for making that an easy decision on my end

In all honesty, though. This is a company that has had some reputation issues lately. If they can make their fan base seem well behaved, then they can make that reputation better, They couldn't really care less about the regulars around here.

Well theres always facebook groups i guess. I guess Bioware wants this to be more so of a forum site and not so much as a social site any more

Seriously, if you close down the "toxic subcommunities", where do you think those users will go? They'll spread themselves out across your forums. They already have accounts here, and they'll be pissed (rightfully so) that you determined the discussions they kept away from the public eye have no place on the forum.

You're not taking out the trash, you're cutting a hole in the trash bag.

QFMFT

I have yet to see a better example of what's being suggested than this

Edit: In addition, if anyone from BW had come to the defense of what it seems they're proposing to offer an explanation or say it was poorly worded, etc, I'd say we'd probably misinterpreted it and likely they were just going to shut down a few groups who've talked about WWE™ and My Little Pony™ for the past 6 weeks and ME3 hadn't come up one time; the fact that no one has offered any such defense speaks for itself, imo.

So the shelter will be shut down. Cain will be pleased.

I thought you'd get the hint that trolling me doesn't work. Pig pls

Whether the shelter or any offtopic social groups stays up or shuts down makes no difference to me but I do understand why they do and don't need to be there.

From a social freedom standpoint I get it. People need other outlets of social approach than the strict on topic method. It gets boring and flat out feels a bit martial on your social freedom. It goes against the very thing that keeps most of you here.

I've realized that these social groups have made a moderate/huge impact on many on a personal level so I can show a level of empathy in that regard. It's human nature to express what it feels on many social levels and bioware is squeezing the artery.

On the flip side I get it too. Most of you have gotten waaaay too comfy and attached with the social freedom given by bioware ESPECIALLY the ME 3 MP community.

This site is a GAME forum at it's core.

The offtopic vs ontopic ratio is about 80/20 and should be the other way around.I think bioware is attempting to shift the focus of this forum back to the games and not so much the gamers. There's already active facebook groups for these games that people can chit chat all day long about other things.

There's new games coming out soon so bioware is preparing the forums and making adjustments as they see fit even if it means stepping on some toes in the process. This adjustment should be a reminder to everyone to not get too comfortable.

I blame Bioware for most people's attachment though. They gave too much freedom thus becoming the reason for this forum being considered another facebook.

They intent to correct it

This is true; the only thing they need to regulate in that regard is the open forums; what you talk about in a group setting w/ your group of friends is not something they should try to regulate.

The reality is the traffic on this site will dip considerably w/o the option to discuss innocuous, "water-cooler" conversations. Perhaps they'd like that,  God knows I don't pretend to know why they do what they do. But unless ME4 is coming out soon, I don't see the point in regulating the private conversations of a (by video game standards) ancient game.

Btw. I did LOL at OP's suggestion to take the off topic discussions off site and then come back to TBF to discuss Bioware related stuff. Really? You think that is how this will work? Wow. Let me know how that works out for you. LMAO.

Why don't you just admit that the whole social aspect is too expensive and hard to manage by now and you'd rather just have a second Answer HQ with the added bonus of you not having to pay for answers provided by users?

Different habits then I guess. Most people I know do not switch rooms just because they want to change a topic... *shrugs*

This is extremely disappointing to me. Having been fairly active on BSN/BWF over the last 2 years has made me some pretty good friends and other acquaintances that will be missed. Between some of the moderation decisions to allow certain people to post non-stop disruptive/abusive comments without bans and dwindling interest in a game that is over 2 years old I have taken the majority of my time spent on here into groups. With this decision you are basically kicking out people that feel the same as I do which is severely disappointing and makes me question whether you all actually do care about this community anymore.

They say all good things must come to an end... Well this seems to be it for me and this site with this decision. Hopefully in the future you will be more willing to listen to the community, but given recent trends I don't see that actually happening.

Since you predominantly post in the ME 3 MP forums, let's test the veracity of your statement, for the record, using the front page of ME 3 MP, as snapshotted at the exact moment that I read your post.

26/28 topics are on-topic and related to MP. 2/28 topics are not.

26/28 topics are on-topic and related to MP. 2/28 topics are not.

Would anyone care to do the math, and check what percentage on topic 26 of 28 threads is?

It would appear that things are the opposite of what you say, that groups are a particular problem in the ME 3 MP Forum. It would appear that MP Forumites restricting their socializing to off topic groups has actually done an incredible job of keeping the MP forum on topic.

I would also say that it's a predominantly friendly and helpful place, with some exceptions. So, if groups are a particular issue in the ME 3 MP forums where we do too much socializing well... by golly... it seems to me that I would want to KEEP that situation going, if I were in charge.

Especially while ME 4 is still a long way away.

Check your privilege, BioWare. First you make the new forums blindingly white and silence Rusty when he calls you on it, then you gave the forum a darker skin just in time to start oppressing it.

I see how it is. Check your privilege.

I like how Jeremiah calls out the only two off-topic posts...that both belong to him and are about him   :wizard:

Edit: Btw, the maths you're looking for is 93% of the topics, are on-topic.

I would "like" this, but apparently I have hit my maximum quota (three times in the last 24 hours!)

But yeah, I might as well own it. Not much point in completely making stuff up in a public forum where anyone can check your facts.
