You don't say...

coming from a cooperative multiplayer experience, god forbid the social aspect of that having an affect towards the community.

As an avid BSN troll, this decision pleases me very much. No longer can hide from me behind closed doors. The more centralized, the better. I'll finally get to read all the juicy gossip and complaints about me. Could you please expedite this rule enforcement, so they don't time to delete their posts? Let's keep this thread low-key so they're surprised.

On a serious note, I understand why they're doing it. I don't have an opinion for or against it. I think perhaps some people have to understand that BSN isn't a blog-site. They are paying for server space to promote their products and discussions that can enhance their products. If some wish to use it for non-related activity, then they could easily use services on another site and connect it to their BSN group.

Well... I've done maybe... 50-100 hours of testing for them. For free. No one paid me.

I've probably spent another few hundred hours spending time explaining things and answering questions in the forums, to help new players understand the game.

I've only spent about 10 hours on making or editing videos that are genuinely "instructive," but they have had an impact, given that they've been viewed collectively about 3000 times.

I've spent probably 50-80 hours editing videos of a funny or comedic nature. I doubt those qualify as promotion in a conventional sense, but I could see how I may have influenced some people in my friends list to look into ME 3 with them. I wouldn't overestimate, maybe half-a-dozen people might have been turned on to the game, who didn't already play, maybe less.

I'm one person.

There are hundreds like me, and dozens who put MANY MANY MANY HUNDREDS more hours into free testing, examination, instructional videos and promotion for BioWare products.

Many of them socialize regularly, and participate in the same groups that I do. Some of them will be leaving as well, and some of them are going to stay. I don't know how many, but if I was in charge, and I had a sense of business management, I would NEVER throw away an asset that can only be replaced by paying someone to do it professionally. Especially in a community-based environment based on volunteerism. That's not just unwise, it can have an irreparable effect on your reputation amongst the very people you would approach to replace the asset that you drove away.

This is a horrible horrible decision, really makes me sad to see what this place has now become. You're hurting your fanbase, you're driving quality posters away, this decision is incredibly short-sighted and moronic. If you wanted to suck the social out of this website congratulations,

Since you predominantly post in the ME 3 MP forums, let's test the veracity of your statement, for the record, using the front page of ME 3 MP, as snapshotted at the exact moment that I read your post.

26/28 topics are on-topic and related to MP. 2/28 topics are not.

I don't think this is a very good move. People in the groups met BECAUSE of Bioware games, either online in ME3 multiplayer or in the forums. The groups let them socialize without worrying about being judged or mocked by people that they didn't know.

On a scale of 1-10 Ms. Merizan, how big is this year's bonus if you're able to completely kill off the community beyond drooling fangirls and fanboys obsessed about romances in a game that's months away from release?

Because your work in recent months has been up to a magnificent standard. Kudos for delivering on the visionary strategy from higher up.

I totally understand your complaint and what you're saying. This would be a good opportunity to request changes as well that would further encourage that exchange and voluteerism. I'd like to see them add things like a customer-facing bug list (per game), hidden game mechanics, stronger emphasis on community modding etc.

Only time will tell.

I can understand why the majority hates this and feel it will negatively impact everything but we really don't know. I think the majority will stay because they simply love this franchise. Maybe this will be some type of beta test to see how things turn out. Who knows exactly why they are doing this but I can somehow understand both sides.

I'm seeing things with a clear mind and not from emotional impulses.

Seems like Bioware might as well have just said, "fuck off Mass Effect fans, you're no longer needed until ME4 comes out. Don't forget to bring money!" This is going to backfire spectacularly.

All that'll happen is you'll drive some people out, their friends will get bored and also leave, THEIR friends will follow and before you know it, this place will be a ghost town. Though I'm pretty sure that's what EA and it's bitch company Bioware really wants.

The only reason I still hover round is for nostalgic value. I have pretty much nothing relevant to say about anything in Mass Effect anymore because everything has been discussed. But I've met so many great people on this site that I STILL stick around to talk to them and hopefully meet some new great people who love these games. Ironically, a lot of these people I've met not in on topic discussions, but in some random group or conversation. By basically preventing people from being THEMSELVES, you just denied everyone the best way to make new friends.

To summarise, I have one last question for you Bioware. Where do people like me who only like Mass Effect and have no interest in any of your other products (especially after some of your recent shenanigans...) go now? I still love Mass Effect and I've met a lot of people that I keep in contact through this site, but I have nothing "on-topic" to discuss...

It'll be nice to get a real answer, but I'm guessing something on the lines of "anywhere but here"...

Whoever decided this clearly hasn't got a clue. (and would fail a first year buissness management course, spectacularly.) But you have my thanks for giving me an example of "bad management descisons' for my presentation. So, kudos.

I'm still not understanding this whole "BSN is a business" thing. This forum can disappear tomorrow and EA would be all right.

BSN is home to a lot of BioWare's consumer market (which BioWare belongs to EA). Will EA be alright? I am sure they will as they have been around in gaming for longer than most. Will it have a negative affect on them though? Very possible if enough consumers that visit here are upset enough with the choices they make to drive apart the community stop purchasing their games.

I suppose that's a fair way to look at it. Maybe this site has a bigger user base than I think it has.

Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. Is it really worth risking from a business perspective over something as small as allowing groups to stay off topic if they choose?

You can actually see how many users are online at any given moment (all the way at the bottom of the main page), right now it's 418 users. So err, you can more or less estimate based on that.

Oh welp, total members... 427,139

Most online (at a single one point), 5,779

That's true, but who's to say that this will have a giant impact. The staff has certainly made decisions over the past few months that have ruffled some feathers, but this site is still doing okay. I think every move they make is based on the proven assumption that things will be okay, regardless of the decisions they make.

Not that I'm tearing anybody down or telling anyone to leave, this is just the behavior that I've noticed over these past few months. This is obviously a good site since people keep coming back to it despite the frustrations. I'm curious to see if there will be a removed feature that will be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back."

I'm wondering how they expect someone that is never around the community website to have any clue how to run it? I guess part of being the Emissary for Bioware Fandom is drawing the short straw and having to deal with the misfits of BSN.

The next step is relevant groups will be shut down if there is too much off topic discussion.

I swear if the one group I'm a part of gets shut down, I will leave indefinitely. This idea seems really stupid in the first place.
