3. BW does not have enough staff to moderate the forum in its current format.
Solutions(?)
1. Ask BW to change forums to a user-moderated system or a hybrid version of it.
2. Automatically apply temp-bans to users who are reported by users as bots/hardcore trolls.
3. Automatically close/delete threads/posts reported as spam.
4. Build an 'unofficial' sister-site for BSN on an existing service made strictly for "non-BW related" discussions.
Anything to add to this? Any other problems not identified?

I said stifle and I mean stifle! Stifle! Stifle! Stifle!
I can't believe that I'm going to try to be the voice of reason. Enough with the pissing matches. We've got problems and they require solutions.
Problems:
1. There will be segmented closing of user-groups.
2. There an expectation that the trolls and flamers will spill out into the main forum area.
3. BW does not have enough staff to moderate the forum in its current format.
Solutions(?)
1. Ask BW to change forums to a user-moderated system or a hybrid version of it.
2. Automatically apply temp-bans to users who are reported by users as bots/hardcore trolls.

Solution 5: Actually listen to the community and don't follow through.
But we all know the odds of that happening are roughly the same as the next Dragon Age game taking place in a different galaxy.

- Do those soon-to-close groups cost bioware anything ?
- Have they a legal responsibility for offensive contents posted in them ?

Yeah, you do.
And what pathetic justification can you come up with? I've been pretty honest and logical with regards to this topic. I can always insult you back but I respect you too much for that...

You may have been (partially) honest but logic is not your friend, caine. You prove that with nearly every post you make.

And by that you mean what you've perceived my posts to mean? Some have agreed with my logic and even expressed their own similar to mines. I'm still sticking with my initial reply and stay neutral to this situation whether you think I'm not. I couldn't care less how you choose to perceive me and my posts, CatoYou're a terrible liar.

BioWare: Please examine the posting and ban history of the users happily supporting this decision.
It should become abundantly clear exactly the kind of posters that you are handing the forums over to, when users like me are gone. They are very, very happy to see users like me go, and groups go, so they can more easily harass and troll posters, because they won't be able to "hide in the groups" when they socialize.
That is what are doing to your users: you are further exposing them to the worst side of your fanbase. Instead of improving their experience, you are making it intolerable for many. You aren't getting rid of your "toxic subculture" (a horrifyingly offensive way of describing me, and the members of my group) you are allowing your toxic subculture to have free rein, while you send your positive members (or at least some part of them) away.
If you consider me, and my friends toxic, if you think we are ruining your boards, then there is no discussion to be had, for there is no rational way to have a discourse with such a perspective. And there is certainly no reason for me to invest my time, or my efforts to support a company that considers me "toxic."

What the heck are you talking about dude? There aren't any bullies here. Hide from what? From who? Worst side of the fanbase? Strong hyperbole there man. The positivity of this forum isn't centralized around you and your "group". Please don't pedestalize yourself and your "group" as the only faces of goodness here.

Is there really a benefit for Bioware in doing this? I can't imagine that they will save much bandwidth since all the pics etc that people post are stored elsewhere.
I guess bandwidth might drop BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS LEFT!
I'm left thinking this is just about control - if I'm wrong and there is some worry about legal liability for things posted in private groups, then surely they could just tell us?
Anyone want to set up bioware.exiles.socialnetwork ?

Why is everyone acting like bioware is shutting down the forums? Its not like they are banning groups period they are limiting it a bit. They are limiting it to game discussion only. I dont see a problem. There are alot of Mass Effect groups on Facebook and alot of them have people from the forums whether its from the Dragon Age Section, Mass Effect Story Mode section, or the Mass Effect Multiplayer section. There are other and better ways to communicate off topic things other than the bioware forums (Facebook). I understand that you all are friends but you can bond and connect better on other social sites that are meant to be social sites, To be honest, most gaming forums dont even allow groups, Its strictly a forum. I could be wrong but i think Bioware is the only gaming forum that actually allows groups. If im wrong post a link to those sites, thank you.
They're shutting down the part of the forum we use most often, off topic group discussion which tend to be really fun and really laid back compared to the rest of the forum and where we largely don't have to worry about trolls getting the topic locked. The fact me and my friends tend to gather herei n groups as opposed to other sites means that this is largely the format we're all comfortable with or capable of sustaining, I've lost track of quite a few posters during the transition to this new site, the new policy seems set on making me loose track of quite a few other. The new policy is also limiting the groups not to games but to bioware related game discussion. Have a group based on Final fantasy or The witcher? Not bioware related and is now off topic. Want to talk to your friends about Wolf Among Us even if they don't visit the Off topic section of the forum? now off topic. There's also not much point in having groups to begin with if they can't offer something different from your standard forum approach, that's why many other forums don't bother with them while also allowing groups specifically for also talking about specific company games. They already have an entire forum dedicated to that, you need to social aspect otherwise it's redundant and likely to lead to the removal of groups in general.
I wasn't aware you owned this site or that I required your permission. The truth may hurt and Bioware is smart to clean up the groups and forums. All that spectre nonsense and trolling elitist crap they allowed was stupid. I was checking on inquisition anyway. I don't play ME3 nor do I really intend to again so no reason to be here.
Sounds like a personal grudge on a particular group, way to take it out on everyone.

Why can't groups that at the most consists of not even 500 people at the moment be slightly off-topic while that entire forum section, The Lobby, which contains more content than most of the groups combined can?
It seems like a raging double-standard to me. Just saying.

Not to mention that the grudge is on a group that is on-topic. From the title it's obvious that it has to do with Mass Effect and as far as I remember, Mass Effect is still a Bioware game. So yeah, not only is that grudge not cool, as it spreads out to groups unrelated to what they're talking about, but it will remain unsatiated, as that specific group, if it is the one I think it is and it is like I think it is, will remain untouched.
Note: That doesn't change the fact that the changes that will take effect in six days from now feel and are absolutely wrong.

So.... let me get this straight:
You aren't getting rid of your "toxic subculture" (a horrifyingly offensive way of describing me, and the members of my group) you are allowing your toxic subculture to have free rein, while you send your positive members (or at least some part of them) away.
By protesting being described as "toxic" I'm claiming that all positivity centers on me? You're really getting angry because you feel it's wrong for me to claim that I'm not toxic?

Wow. Whilst I am very sorry that there are some folks who will be losing a beloved feature of the site, no one person nor any group, not even you and yours Jere, was singled out as being "toxic". In fact, it wasn't even stated that such sub communities currently exist. That's just a gross misinterpretation of the post.
