Almost everything. I have yet to play any of the downloadable content (going through the entire trilogy with female Shepard right now) but just the base game was wonderful.

  • Squad interaction and character moments are the best in the trilogy by far.
  • Soundtrack is beautiful and epic.
  • Best overall story of the trilogy, save for the last fifteen minutes.
  • Emotionally resonant.
  • The gameplay is top notch, easily the best combat of the series.
  • Maybe the best version of the Citadel out of all three games...maybe. The first game still had a great Citadel too.

The only things I wasn't a fan of was the ending for obvious reasons, a lack of Harbinger (seemed like he should have been more involved), and it would have been nice to have some more hub worlds, but I get it. There's a war going on.

All three games have their benefits and drawbacks. The thing I miss the most in the first two games is combat rolls.

I prefer the sniper rifles in ME. You can snipe from a really LONG way away without having to purchase mods, and you could purchase or find mods that virtually eliminated the overheating issue for all your weapons. I really hated the addition of thermal clips in ME2. Being ecologically minded, the thought of having clips litter the landscape makes me wince. Yes, I know it's just pretend. I like that Shepard can use any weapon in ME3. I tend to use the Black Widow and the Harrier.

I prefer the power cool-down in ME, where just the power you use has to cool down instead of everything, but I really like the ability to use stealth cloaking in ME3.

I like that there are more conversations, even though a lot is ambient. Crew members moving around makes them seem more alive. I wish there were more neutral conversation options.

I liked the combat.  It got better with each game but with 3 we were given over the counter grabs (favorite) and a huge variety in all styles of guns the we could use no matter the class plus with the ability to mix and match our armor.  Also biotic and tech explosions.  The only drawback from the combat improvements was the fact that insanity difficulty wasn't hard at all.  Man I wish ME3 could be modded, a lot of the things I don't like would have already been fixed by us players who have the talent for such things.

The fact that I have sold it after the s**t has hit the fan.

Also, the music. The music was OK.

- The genophage/krogan storyline was the high-point of the game for me - Wrex calling my Shepard a sister to him, Eve with some of my favorite quotes in the whole trilogy, Mordin curing the genophage, Grunt's surprise survival, Kalros defeating a Reaper, Tuchanka's environment and the remains of its civilization, getting to use a flamethrower in the rachni mission, etc.

- Parts of the Rannoch storyline, and Shepard's conversation with the Reaper there

- Garrus (my favorite squadmate, good conversations + romance and fun bottle-shooting on the Citadel)

- Weapon variety + visible upgrades, melee attacks, new attacks and explosion types

- Paragon/Renegade score being on a sliding scale rather than separate bars like in ME2

- New crew members Traynor & Cortez who have jobs that actually tie into the story a few times, and full dialogues with good friendship paths

Those are the main things I can think of right now.

Story up to the last 10 minutes (best in the series)

Emphasis on Character Development

Smaller squad, better characters

Gameplay

Music

Scenery and environment

Emphasis on combat was ok but I prefer when it felt like a RPG rather than a shooter

Well, the story was full of asspulls, lack of relevance of previous events, and a general hamfisted forced morality.

Characterization turned into flanderization of character traits (if not outright assassination and avoidance, as many characters got).

You were basically forced to hold that the ME1 team was 'your' team, despite the obvious difference being the squad was unlikely heroes who are unsuited to be heroes vs, the ME2 team of the best of the best.

Gameplay was ok. I preferred ME2 to ME3 in some aspects, namely the weapon usage (I liked how they had the weapon system in ME2 where not every class could use every weapon).

The music was the same as it always was; consistently excellent, though it felt inappropriate at some points.

The scenery and environments weren't fleshed out well; due to programmer laziness or technical limitation, I can't say.

Agree with everything you said. You will love the DLCs. They really add the icing to the cake.

Also. I love your avatar. Where is it from?

- Javik, the main character and true star of the trilogy.

- Ardat Yakshi monastery mission.

- Diving into the ocean to find the Leviathan. Terrifying, but also exciting.

- Samara romance. Very short, but also very bittersweet.

- Combat gameplay.

- Armor and weapon customization. The Black Widow is awesome.

- Multiplayer.

- Music, especially "An End Once And For All".

- Character interaction.

- "Citadel" DLC.

- Most of Tuchanka storyline.

- Reaper fight on Rannoch. Nonsensical, but it was very intense.

- Conversations with TIM throughout the game.

- Grunt's "final" stand. Grunt, mah boi! :'D

- The final battle, especially when opening the Citadel and while talking to the Catalyst.

- The final goodbyes, especially the one with Javik during the Normandy evac. ;_;
