I saw the magazine today in store, and since it featured a DA:I article, I bought it and thought about sharing some of the informations with you. There's some newer stuff mentioned in it and some of it was mentioned by GameStar (their sister magazine). I know some of it's been already mentioned here, but I'll still add it because some people are gone for a while and miss out on infos while they're highly discussed and then quickly cast aside:

-They're using tactics similar to what we're used to from MMORPGs, meaning that a tank will soak up enemy damage while the Damage Dealer... deals damage and the healer supports us with healing spells. Also, the role of support classes was given a bit more emphasis than before.

-Enemy AI will make use of terrain, for example: archers or mages will look for high places where they can spam us from above and are well protected while we fight through melee enemies who block our path to them. Though there are of course counter measures: Casting a huge wall of ice will force them to look for alternate spots (which may be advantageous to us) or make them break through the wall with considerable effort.

-When you pause the game, placing the cursor on enemy units will tell you their level, health and class.

-Party members will be revived after battle, health will only party be restored. Mana will restore completely, but you won't be able to spam healing spells until everybody is ok again, though Bioware didn't mention how that will work out.

-It's completely optional to make use of the dodge roll.

-2 voices per gender, and it's not possible to have a woman with a man's voice.

-Fade sequences won't be as tedious as before.

-Nearly everything the player does is tied to the Inquisition in a way. Strengthening the Inquisition by scouting areas, defeating monsters, solving quests etc. will in turn unlock new areas or parts of the story.

-The look of our castle, the Skyhold, is tied to the strength of the Inquisition as well as upgradeable in various ways. If your organization gains more reputation, more soldiers will be running around in the castle. You can change the look of the rooms, or build new ones for crafting purposes, for example a garden to grow herbs.

You can use a map to coordinate your troops and give them various orders.

-Companions so far are Vivienne, Varric, Cassandra, Solas and Iron Bull, as well as a female archer.

-Areas are considerably bigger. The average map should be about three times the size of the Korcari Wilds from DA:O.

-Enemies will also attack each other. Like, if a giant enters a dragon's nest (which is of course patrolled by the dragon), the dragon will attack the giant.

-The optional battles against the dragons will be really hard. During the interview, even the one responsible for designing the battle system lost big way. Also, hurting various body parts will change the behavior of the dragon, like making him limp.

-The graphics will be really awesome. Waves behave realistically, and every pebble is well rendered. After it rains, puddles will form and make the ground muddy, slowing down the movement of the group.

I know, some of it's old news, but I just added it just in case. What're your thoughts?

I wonder how effective the rolling will be? Will targets actually miss? Or are we dealing with Geth Primes Siege Pulse /Atlas missile from ME3MP..

Sounds excellent, sounds like if I want to play this at higher levels I'll have to get back to my non lazy ways of battling in encounters.  I've admittedly become soft as far as my patience for tough encounters goes.

My gods...since when are MMORPGs the origin of tank, heal and dps in RPGs? Are the new gamers so uneducated that they they know nothing of the single player RPG genre now?

Yes.

However, MMORPGs seem to have 'solidified' the roles, making the group more of a 'cohesive unit'. You NEED that ONE tank. You NEED that ONE healer. (at least on harder difficulty levels)

Mostly already known info, but it's always nice to have it regathered and have a reminder of what's coming.

Thank you for this tidbit OP.

MMOs were the one to popularize the holy trinity of Tank/DPS/Healer in mainstream gaming, so that's what people reference.

They aren't saying that they were the first games ever to use it.

"uneducated"? They don't exactly teach "The history of role playing games" in school.

I think that people interested in DAI, a single player game, would at least know the gameplay of the two previous games in the series...

Why, exactly?

It's going to be 3+ years since the last game.

For a teenager, that can be a lot. Yeah, for older adults, okay. But for teens, "There's this Dragon Age game coming out, it looks cool but I haven't played the first two. They're kinda old." I see that sort of thing a lot.

There are people that consider ME1 to be ancient.

I should mention that I took that directly from the article.

It kinda sounds like you believe that I'm a teenager?

I didn't know we could barrel dodge roll. Or that enemies would attack each other. Thanks, OP. :)

What? No. I gave an example of potential audience of a game. I don't care about your age.

I know. It is actually the 2nd "journalist" that link DAI gameplay to MMORPGs that I get to read.

Sometimes I feel like party based single player RPGs have been dead for a decade and the "new gamers" do not understand what they are (despite there being at least one released every year, indie or not).

Yeah, it's a bit weird. The term the original writer used was "Aggro-System".

Imagine how I feel? I was about 11 years old when the original Kingdom Hearts came out. (I still have it  :D )

So you're 24? Dude you're ancient by the standards put forward in this thread. Got any great-grandkids yet?

I'm not quite clear what "optional" means here. You can not make use of the dodge roll and -- get hit? Or are they talking toggle?

If the enoucnters really do end up being designed around needing a tank, a healer, and 2 dps...I hope there's some options to respec your companions. I forsee playing as a dps mage, which would probably mean I'd have to spec all my other mages into healer roles - which I doubt they all start out as.

It's an ability you need to purchase off a talent tree (warrior) and use in combat (and it probably has a cooldown and stamin a cost). It's optional because you character might be better off buying something else based on your group play style.

On top of being able to respec, I hope companions have access to every tree within a class like they did in Origins.

It was kind of annoying in DA2 that Anders was the only mage that could spec into healing spells outside of a mage Hawke. Aveline was also the only one with a dedicated tanking tree, although I have no idea how "tank" Fenris would work with his dodge increasing ability from his unique tree. I've never really used Fenris.

And it will work off of tactics like anything else, I guess. Thanks. Much better than what I was imagining.

Managing aggro really is a MMORPG concept, isn't it?

Yea - I would like to be able to choose which companions I bring on certain quests for both combat and story reasons. If I spec both Cassandra and another warrior into tank roles so I can swap them out...what happens if there's a quest that seems like the banter/dialog would be awesome if they were both there? Am I just stuck bringing two tanks?

I don't think you should be able to respec on the fly, but have a significant enough cost that I can decide whether or not having both of them there is worth respeccing one.

Considering that gaming only really caught any steam in what - the 70s-80s?, gaming has only been around for half a lifetime. What a new form of  media still!
