If you could change something about the gameplay of any, or all, ( and maybe for the next mass effect game) of the mass effect games what would it be? For me, it would be the controls on consoles, I'd love to have a setup not unlike the dragon age series. Powers would be bound to square triangle and circle and holding R2 would let you access a second layer of hotkeys on the fly. The power wheel would be accessed by either holding or pressing (there would an option to toggle open/closed instead of holding) L2, and the weapon wheel would be accessed from there using the D-pad. Aiming and shooting would still be L1 and L2 respectively. This would, especially for the first game, completely re-vitalize the series for me. Thoughts?

i´m playing on PC, and my wish would be one key for one action. ME3 ruined the spacebar of my old keyboard, and i stopped counting how often i´ve died in the MP because of this "one key to rule them all" crap a long time ago. there are more than enough keys on a PC-keyboard, so please use them in the next ME.

I see where you're coming from for the PC versions. I've really just gotten used to the "everything button" playing games on consoles. It's only a minor annoyance to me at this point.

Auto-dialogue in 3. Bring it back to 2's dialogue wheel. Gimme more options to be able to talk to people and be nice, sarcastic or mean to others.

Also the Spacebar does everything bit mentioned previously. Fix it to where other keys could hug cover, sprint, etc.

Buffing the common and uncommon(and some rare even) weapons to be more in line with the other weapons, or just getting rid of the idea of one gun being more rare than another. Bring it back to ME2's style where each gun was unique and had its own thing, and all were viable or at least weren't too far behind. In 3, guns like the Harrier trump guns like the Avenger. Hurricane SMG > all the other SMGs(Collector SMG good for casters and Collector Adept though, BPP good on Marksmen but still). N7 Piranha > Katana and Scimitar, Arc Pistol > pretty much every other pistol. Talking from both SP and MP perspectives.

Some other stuff but all I can think about atm.

INB4 ending change post.

I would tone down the power combos (and maybe the powers too). It makes the game a little too easy when every other power primes a target like they're undiluted nitroglycerin (only with different colors).

And bring back protection on all enemies.

So, I think a mix of ME2 and ME3. Add the quicker pace and inventory system of ME3 with more of the tactical variety of ME2.

The games are pretty disparate in gameplay, rpg elements, mechanics, etc.

In any event the "one" thing I would change from 3 would be the mechanics.  If I have to pick one, it would be to revamp the combo system dramatically.

What would change about the combo system cap?

I would add enemies with biotic skills, sadly there are none in ME3 (except for the Banshee with her warpball)

The short version is that I would reduce the number of powers that could be primers, and also reduce what can be a detonator.  May get rid of the concept of Cryo and Fire Explosions altogether, although leave AOE chill/freeze effect from shatters on death only.  FE's probably only on death as well.

We would see a return of simple physics based combos, like Lift-Throw from the first game, or Pull-Throw from ME2.

Powers would correspondingly be rescaled so that they can stand on their own merits in whatever role they belong in.

Oh, thought of another one. Would be interesting to have some enemies fight like (spoilers I suppose even though it's been out for over a year?) Clone Shepard.

For example, Vanguard Clone Shepard is brutal if you aren't careful. Fighting a Cerberus unit like that would've been nuts.

Make insanity mode like it was in ME2. ME3 was easy

The vanguard Shepard fight was pretty fun, if you weren't careful you'd be out of cover after charging him and he'd hit you with nova. Had a few close calls in that fight.

Yeah the clones really were sort of a nod to enemies in the first game that had many powers they could use against you (warp, throw, sabotage, overload...), and to some extent the engineers in the second game.  Any future title should use that as well.

^This.

I'd also get rid of the rolls. They look beyond absurd. If you have to have speedy movements and dodges around the battlefield, they should be done like the Asari Justicar (from MP) who uses biotic fields to rapidly flicker around. Looks much better and fits in more nicely with the universe. For non-biotic classes, you can hand-wave it away by saying they're manipulating their armour's kinetic barrier technology.

They don't need to tone down the power combos, they just need to make the enemies stronger. A lot stronger. And they should always be shielded or armored.

And less stupid. If a singularity is already in place, no enemy should walk into it.

Also less one directional battles. There should've been Husks suddenly eating your ass or arms off because you didn't see them coming from behind/the flanks a lot more often. Or let them jump from above.. get up from under the ground. If anything, a whole lot less of this:

I walk forward.

I see cover.

I sprint there.

All enemies come from where I can see them.

In pretty much all ME games you could pretty much predict that a battle was going to happen because suddenly there's cover

The problem is not so much that the power combos are too strong, but that the enemies are just too stupid and weak.

Change movement from WASD to some other form, and remove the need to seek clips. The movement is too rigid, and the clips remove immersion, IMO.

Auto-dialogue in 3.

Change movement from WASD to some other form.

Errr...you know you can change both things in the Settings menu....right?

I meant alter WASD to point & click; not just arrows and strafing keys.

... are you for real?

That would destroy the game.

You can't be for real. Point & click in a shooter-rpg?

You're joking, right?

Err...this isn't a strategy game, or The Sims, you know....
