So I remember hearing that Inquisition would have some sort of multiplayer component however I can't remember if that was from a reliable source or fan speculation based on EA's "EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH MULTIPLAYER" stance.

Thing is I can't imagine what a Dragon Age multiplayer mode could possibly look like, its not that I am against multiplayer its just I don't see how the core Dragon Age gameplay would be conducive to a multiplayer mode. Unless the core gameplay experience has been altered to be more conducive to multiplayer in Inquisition or the developers are developing a totally seperate and different style of gameplay for the multiplayer mode I just dont see how it would work? Unless there is no multiplayer mode and it is just social aspects like resource sharing and whatnot? Anyone got any ideas?

In any case if the developers are in fact developing a multiplayer mode it would be interesting to see exactly what it is if only to sate my curiosity.

They already said there will be no multiplayer in DAI.

Source?

Edit: I just googled for this.  As of January, the devs said that they weren't sure.  As of February, a leaked survey that asked about the player's feelings about ME3's multiplayer came up.   That's been the last word on the subject.

It's not that EA wanted all games to have multiplayer, but to have an online component.  Dragon Age Keep probably counts as DAI's online component.

I don't remember who said it(though I think it might have been Frank Gibeau), but the actual quote was something like "I have not greenlit a game without an on-line component in X years."

DAO, ME2, and DA2 all had an on-line component. The last BioWare game that didn't have an on-line component was the first ME game.

I really think if it were to have an MP, we would have seen some leaked material or something along those lines. We haven't.

So either there is no MP in development, or they figured out how to hire people that don't do stupid stuff with their work material.

No MMO planned, as of now. While they do have gameplay fundamentals mirroring MMO-mechanics, they want to concentrate on building story. Experience is for “one player coordinating actions of the party”.

A Massive Multiplayer Online game isn't the same as multiplayer though.  You can have a solid single player game with multiplayer features, such as PVP or co-op.

The catch is that the person that made that statement about having a "Social Aspect" its not a multiplayer requirement no longer works at EA.  The other thing is don't forget about Heroes of Dragon Age, which is basically the same as the Flash games released for Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2  and both of those games met that social requirement (I think Allan Schumacher made that statement around the time Dragon Age: Inquisition was first announced and the forums started, but I can't find the post).

That's what I was thinking when I read that there would be no MMO aspect because I was pretty sure that the multiplayer in ME3 didn't qualify as an MMO.

I was looking forward to what they were going to do with Dragon Age on the same level.

At this point I don't mind if they do or they don't. From what I have seen I have enough confidence the single player campaign will be amazing, and if the multiplayer fans get something fun to do too, well I am happy for them. I don't think it will detract from the main campaign if they do it the way Mass Effect 3 did it - I didn't even notice multiplayer was there in that game, but some friends of mine really enjoyed it - so good for them.

Honestly, what I'd like to see going forward is for MP modes that are completely optional and separate from the main game to be a game on their own.

I feel that a MP only game can deliver a lot more than an MP mode attached to an otherwise SP experience. I get why developers do it this way, but MP only games would allow a community to be built around them, with updates and major changes that wouldn't have to wait the next SP game in the series to be implemented.

I like Assassin's Creed MP, but I'd play it a lot more if it wasn't filled with people only playing for the achievements, for example.

On the other hand, MP that consists of playing the exact same game, but in co-op, can be a nice addition. Divinity Original Sin seems to work well from what I've tried of the alpha and beta.

Multiplayer in ME3 at least made some sense. For DA:I it wouldn't. To be succesful it would have to be along the lines of TES:O

Frankly i was surprised when DA:O was released without multiplayer support. It's a game about party based combat, i see no reason they can't have a module where you and three friends go down into the deep roads or whatever and do some dungeon crawling together, it doesn't have to have a story component, i had fun with ME3 multiplayer and i assumed that would be terrible before i even tried it.

At first I thought DA would have mutiplayer but now I'm not so sure especialy since ME(insert name here) is under developemnt as well.  I would imagine MP and planning would go towards mass effect.  Some people don't enjoy mp but I've like the ME multyiplayer and DA would probably be along the same lines.  Small group of 4 players, kind of a hoard mode etc.

Please do not say something is confirmed if you don't have a grasp on what they are saying.

MMO is not the type of Multi player that is being discussed in this thread. MMOs are a completely different concept and game.

I think that Mike Laidlaw answered this question in the Pax East video that is about five threads down from this at the one hour two minute mark. Now I am not about to try and quote him so go and check it out yourself. I think he was saying that they are sticking to a single character driven game for the foreseeable future. Again this is not me quoting ML I could have totally misunderstood what he was saying so go listen.

It's just before the Careless Whisper ring tone.

Edit

Ok so that's what you get if you go and check the video and come back and don't look to see if anybody else has posted the information before you :(

I'd kind of like a version of the ME3 multiplayer in DA:I.  Especially if they enable couch co-op as well as online.

It didn't Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is part of why the SP game sucks.

I think something similar to dragon's dogma will be neat and make sense in inquisition.

Basically, people can hire your PC and vice versa and use them as a companion.

I'm hoping for some co-op if they ever consider multiplayer :) Maybe you can pick certain chapter / part / map and play it with your friends? Something similar to Titan Quest?
Anyhow, DA's companions are more than enough for my in game social need so even if they drop multiplayer entirely, I would still be happy :)
