Can't we just cuddle?

One of my favorite romance scenes from ME3 was Kaiden's scene where Shepard has the option to say, "Nah, let's just chill on the couch together before the dangerous, life threatening mission". It was a nice moment, and a good change away from the whole "last mission, time for sex" thing that happened in the two previous games.

This is something I'd kind of like to see come back for DA:I. Maybe I don't want to sleep with my girl/boyfriend right away. Maybe I want to wait a little and savor the romance. DA:O had something like this, but DA:2 (if I remember correctly) had this 'do it now or break Merrill's heart' approach. My basic point is that the romance scenes, even the pivotal ones, don't always need to end with less clothes and a fade away to black. It's something that I would enjoy (though I'm well aware that availability of resources might make this more difficult than I'm making it sound).

I've thought this, too.  I don't mind there being a sex scene, but it isn't necessary in every case.

Garrus in ME2/ME3 never got an actual sex scene, you'd get the lead-up and it faded to black and then you might see them cuddling or something.  Clipping issues, and yet, the headbump was one of the most adorable romantic scenes I've seen.

Jade Empire's romance culminated in a kiss (with Sky at least).

I also wouldn't mind having the option to marry the LI and never trigger a sex scene at all.  Some characters aren't into sex before marriage.  Likewise, for some couples sex would be the first thing they would do, and that could also be an option depending on the characters.

The developers talk about making every companion a romance option cheapening the characters, but in a way sex scenes can cheapen the romance.  I don't think it should happen that way unless it needs to, otherwise it can come off as forced.  Cuddle time, kisses, etc. would be nice.  Or like in ME3, having your LI say comforting things to your Inquisitor throughout the story.  It could be done so many ways...

Guess what I'm saying is I agree, sex does not always need to happen, doesn't always need to be a reward for playing the game.  But I'm also saying whether there is sex and how that sex is treated needs to be based around the LI and their personality and behavior.  Makes more sense that way than as a reward to the player... I don't play the games for pixel sex.

I liked that the sex was in the middle of the romance in DA:O, not at the end as a priiiize. It was also optional and didn't break the romance if you declined (at least with Zevran; I didn't try it with the others). I found a sort of hidden dialog option with Zevran if you try to bed him for the first time after he is in love mode. He rejects you and you can say something like, "Sorry if I'm not doing this right," like you're embarrassed about being inexperienced. It's really cute.

I'd also love to have a marriage option (before the ending), but I don't think they'll ever do that.

The main problem with cuddling and stuff is having to create all these extra animations between different body sizes. They aren't going to all be one size like in ME, but you'll have qunari, human, dwarf, elf and all the combinations of those.

Garrus' love scene from ME2 is my favourite. Adorable, romantic yet suggestive enough

*imagines Qunari/dwarf cuddles* Teehee.

It'd be cool if they created animations specific to certain racial pairings. Like instead of Iron Bull awkwardly cuddling with a short dwarf inquisitor, he would offer a piggy back ride instead. :P Personally I'd like to see that.

This is one of my absolute favorite moments in the ME series.  It really takes Shepard out of this mythical badass uberhero and turns him/her back into a regular person.  Kaidan was the best romance I've ever experienced in a Bioware game.  He was awesome.  Supportive, yet had opinions of his own.  A little goofy at times.  Romantic without it being totally sex driven or sappy and cliche.  Kudos to who ever that writer was.  Do we know who wrote him in ME 3?  I'd love to see more romances like this one in the DA series.

Poor Kaiden, all he was looking for was some action before what could possibly be his last day alive and Shepard **** blocks him and says she only wants to cuddle? That is harsh.

I agree with this 100%

I am kinda hoping that the Cassandra Romance goes this rout.  Just seems to me Cassandra would be more like an emotional support.  Both of you are hard and strong.  But when it's just the two of you, you can let your guard down.  Take a moment to be weak.  That's what I am hoping for anyway.

I think Garrus easily had some of the strongest content in the game in this respect.

Garrus' romance was like my platonic ideal of romance in a game, ironic as that sounds.

There lots of sweet touches and supportive moments and caresses and romance. It had a lot of physicality without them ever getting naked. (Not that I was opposed to the possibility). It was just the absolute best.

You're making me wanna try it out now.

For me male Shepard and Kaidan were just stunningly amazing, and that was because they were just friends for 2 games and then suddenly it was the end of the world and they figured that it just made sense for them to be together romantically on top of their strong friendship. That romance stayed in my head for months. (I know people complain about bi Kaidan because this exact scenario doesn't make sense to them, but I thought it was perfect.)

I thought it was just so much more special than "here have 100 gifts of silver bars and tribal necklaces and let's get freaky in my tent".

I'm pretty confident that DAI will deliver well on the romance aspect. It seems like the team is working hard to improve everything about the game, this included.

Huh? You slept with your LI in Jade Empire. It was a kiss ftb sure but it's pretty implied you too did the deed.

There definitely should be an option where you can decide to wait on sex and just cuddle even though I probably won't use it. I also think sex scenes should be more like it was in Origins.

Sleeping with Aerie, and then saying the wrong things the next morning, can end the romance, in BG2.

You get your best outcome by turning her down the 1st time she offers, but if you do accept, you have to be careful with the morning after.  -_-

I don't really see how that helps you 'savour the romance'? I mean, the game is going to end either way. It doesn't just stretch out indefinitely until you decide that now is the right time to bone.

But I don't need to see sex in the romances at all, so I'm not opposed to an option for avoiding it.

And how about that Tango scene in the Citadel DLC? That was the best scene in the ME trilogy, imo  As I sat there, watching the scene in amazement, I knew nothing would top that. It even made me forget about the ending fiasco for a bit.

More specifically, they show you kissing if you're in a straight relationship, and don't even show that otherwise.  I would think the implications are a matter of player interpretation.

My favorite response was "I can't get past those huge lumps of scar tissue on your back... I'm not in the mood." when she propositions you.

Thank you to those writers who think up the most hilariously cruel things to say to companions.
