The helmets are ok-you can't go wrong with any of them.
The mage hats-well.I'll just requote an older post on the forum.

Yeah, hoods are good. You're such a visionary, Luna.
What about snap backs? Alistair could totally have rocked the reversed snapback, IMO. A massive oversight by Bioware. I want a refund.

Not that fond of hats (or helmets) myself, especially the horrible hats and hoods in DA. I like to show off the characters hair so I would rather have something like headbands, circlets, masks, veils and jewelry. Dragon's Dogma has a lot of nice "headgear" options and modders have done nice things for Skyrim in this department too.
I hope we at least get circlets in DA:I.
