It was revealed at Pax that our Inquisition party would be even in terms of classes:
3 Warriors
3 Rouges
3 Mages

 

 

 

So here's all of the companion info we have to date in a fancy chart format:

 

CONFIRMED:

 

 

PROBABLE: 

 

 

 

POSSIBLE:

 

 

 

Certain characters could be advisers or other important characters. 

Third rouge slot appears pretty open without a strong candidate.

It would make sense for the third rouge to be a default twin blade/daggers user, & possibly a female to even out the gender ratio.

 

 

Who do you think the third warrior, third rouge, and third mage are?

 

 

 

 

EDIT: The "?" represents other possibilities, including Cole sense he has no official concept art.

I would replace the Leliana slot under rogues with the invisi-Cole question mark. His survey concept was a rogue. If he's in, he'll be a rogue, not a mage.

 

I also don't really see any more reason to believe Scribe Girl is a rogue than a mage, if she has a class at all.

All look very possible, other than Leliana. I don't think they would make her a companion again. She'll probably be an important NPC, just like they say Cullen will be.

The three Warriors are probably going to be Cassandra (confirmed), the Grey Warden (lots of concept art and a glimpse of him in a gameplay vid), and the Iron Bull (lots of concept art and a trailer). 

 

The other possibility mentioned for third warrior is Cullen, but I think the Iron Bull is a lot more likely. We've heard and seen a lot more about the Iron Bull in DA:I, and Cullen and Cassandra have a somewhat similar pro-Chantry world view. The Iron Bull on the other hand, as a Tal Vashoth mercenary, would offer a unique perspective.  Also the Grey Warden and Cassandra are sword and board warriors, which probably means the third wields a two handed sword. Cullen is a sword and board type as well, while the Iron Bull has been depicted with a two handed weapon in concept art.

And even worst Cullen will only be a NPC  in some lame templar-mission that they'll throw at us.

Cullen will probably have something to do at the base, "Skyhold", as it's called now. If he's an LI, he's probably not just going to be stuck in some faction related quest. He may not even be a templar at this point.

In that case...I think that about wraps up the warrior category. The Grey Warden might not be officially confirmed, but we've seen gameplay footage of him as a companion. He is about as close to a guaranteed companion without official confirmation as you can get. With the Iron Bull and Cassandra officially confirmed, I think we can safely say that Cullen won't be a companion.

Probably because he's one of the most important NPCs, which is probably also why Leliana and the scribe girl are in the art. They're probably usually in the war room, where the art is depicted, or at least some similar meeting area.

 

But what do you think he had more to offer than the likely companions?

A lot of people have theorized that if there's a large majority of male followers, it coudl be because of a large number of important female characters. Like Celene, Leliana, etc. 

 

That would be a lousy reason, especially since we don't know all the important NPC. Even so, NPCs just don't remplace companions, no matter how important they are.
