Edit2: Out of interest Mort - why were you happy to see that theory go? Personally I like the idea of a companion who deviates from the norm a little. We've already had a warrior qunari  in Sten- imo a rogue or mage would offer something new.

"Different" doesn't necessarily mean "better". Iron Bull made no sense to me as a rogue. The rogue class is meant to be geared towards stealth and speed. Iron Bull is literally the tankiest tank that a DA game has ever had. Paired with the fact that he's only ever been pictured with one giant sword equipped, the theory just never made sense to me at all.

Cullen better be a companion.

That's not looking likely at this point.

Wouldn't his being a major NPC be some consolation, though?

I'm sure someone already told you but.....

Unless those are confirmed Moulin Rouge dancers, it's rogues, OP

Yes, the "Iron Bull is a rogue" theory is totally dead. He's definitely a warrior. I was happy to see that one go.

As was I. Do they expect me to believe that he could pick a lock with those meaty sausage fingers? I can only suspend my disbelief for so long.

Iron Bull and the Warden are obviously warriors.

I agree that Iron Bull is obviously a warrior, but if it's just as obvious that the Warden is a warrior than I've missed some of the evidence.

We've seen the Warden holding a shield, in concept art and (IIRC) in game footage.

I hope they announce the "new" NPC romance feature soon. Until then, I'm keeping the hope for 4/3/2 alive and believing they scrapped Dorian, which is slightly more likely than scrapping GW.

Actually, what would be more likely is that they scrapped the mysterious 3rd rogue who we have never seen anywhere.  We've got at least some evidence that DHMG (who some are speculating might be Dorian) is our 3rd mage, as we've seen him in multiple concept art pieces including a few where he was in the party with the Inquisitor at some ruins.  The 3rd rogue is the one that we almost nothing on, except for a several year old leaked survey, which we've been told is inaccurate to some extent, where Cole is mentioned as a rogue.

However, that being said, people seem pretty set on the 3/3/3 distribution.  I wasn't at PAX nor did I see any video of the announcement, so I'm not sure how it was worded.  Whatever they said, though, convinced enough people that the 3/3/3 thing is happening.  So Cullen is likely out and we still need to figure out our last mage and rogue.

He's holding an Inquisition/Seeker "eye" shield in that second picture, which is from in-game. We've also seen Cassandra using it but I can't find the picture now.

That was from nearly two years ago so there's no guarantee that the companion armour works the same way, but I really hope they managed to keep the feature where each armour piece adjusts to fit the unique look of each companion.

Why wouldn't you believe the allocation is equal, though? The PAX video makes it fairly clear. If every piece of evidence needs to be filtered through a "Does this make Cullen more likely?" test, then an awful lot of people are getting their hopes up for nothing.

Probably because Cullen is an LI and a Warrior, thus 4 Warriors.

Bioware keeps going on about inclusivity and representation, so people expect inclusivity and representation from them.

And frankly ME is way more of a straight male fantasy than DA ever was, so I don't really want some ME-ness in here.

So true. If ME is the model, I'm out.

What video? Is there a full video from Friday's panel? Do you have a link? I've been looking for one and haven't found any!

This is correct.

I'm not dismissing 3/3/3, but there is also precedent for a warrior-biased party, and for LI's to be companions.

But, you're also correct in that I really, really want a particular outcome. I (don't) apologize if this ruffles some feathers. ;)

I only found an incomplete recording of the first panel, which funnily enough didn't get the part where Mile said the party was 3/3/3.

But IMO it's impossible to take "evenly spread" any other way. The only way to evenly distribute nine companions is three of each class, which does match up with what we know about the third mage and possible third rogue.

Hoping for four warriors feels like wishful thinking, rather than something supported by what we know.

I'd like a 3/3/3 distribution, I've always wanted to try an All Mage Squad Of Ultimate Magical Destruction ™, but I know I'm going to get this game regardless, the class distribution or even who the companions are won't affect that.

The "warden might be a rogue" theory seems to be based entirely on wishful thinking for Cullen to be a companion.

He's big, he's burly, and the majority of concept art we've seen of him has him in heavy armor with the sword & board. The two pieces that haven't shown him as such were a more casual setting where no one is fully armored, and a scene that presents a very good explanation as to why he wasn't armored(just getting off the gallows).

While I've previously been on the pessimistic side of the 3/3/3, that was because I didn't think they'd allow an all mage party. They're apparently implementing non-combat abilities for the different classes that would make a one-class party nonviable, so they found another way around that.

So as it stands I'm going under the assumption that 3/3/3 is what we're getting and that Beard Warden will be one of them.

3/3/3 is actually a big assumption from one off hand comment about an 'even distribution'. Given how balanced parties invariably require more warriors/rogues than mages, an 'even distibution' might mean more warrior companions than mage, and that's not accounting for things the other DA games have always used; mutually exclusive companions, meaning we might have access to only 8 companions at a given time.

IIRC correctly, a Gaider tweet insinuated that a fan was wrong to assume there would only be three warriors. So I wouldn't be surprised if we have four, or that the 'even distrubution' of the party is dependent on which class the player chooses.
