ML telling us that that there would be no DLC companions because of fan anger over paying again for content they already own is made on the Friday the following Monday in answer to people raging about possible companion cuts DG post that. 2+2=4 all day long.

I still can't see any connection between cut DLC content and a cut companion who we already know about. They clearly didn't decide to just yank a whole companion out last Friday, so the idea that a scrapped DLC character implies that [Character X] is now cut is a bit hard to prove.

We don't know when the decision to cut the DLC character was made, nor if that character was anyone they've ever featured or who was in the survey. They might've redesigned the entire party multiple times since the decision to have no DLC person was made, who knows?

If they decided to cut, I dunno, a talking tree companion named Willow two years ago as a result of not doing Day One DLC, then we'd never know about her and she'd never have been included in any of the subsequent information, reveals, marketing materials, etc. Why are people assuming that it's someone who was shown much more recently, when it could be something we never knew about and now never will?

That last point was the essence of David's comments, I think. Complaining about DLC means having to deal with the fact that a companion concept won't come to fruition, and fans can't really have it both ways.

1) I never actually stated that the cut DLC character was someone that we know. I just said that with that in mind we cannot use old footage to guarantee that a certain companion will actually make it to the game.

2) Totally agree.

3) Totally agree.

4) Yeah and if there has been a DLC companion cut this in all likelihood is someone we have never heard about. But could be a character who had been used in concept art or gameplay before this discussion was made. So the only guaranteed ins are the ones the Bioware team have confirmed or talked about recently.

Okay, I think I understand now. It will be interesting to see what happens, I confess I would be disappointed if the "cut" DLC companion, however long ago it was, ends up being someone I was convinced was in the game.

It's kinda better in a way if we don't know what was cut, because we can't begin to imagine what it might've been like. Ignorance is bliss, and all that.

(And that's the peril of spoiling myself fully and reading stuff like the survey, I suppose, so it's on my own head.)

For the record, they said no day 1 DLC companions.

They said they could include them later, but they would come with a large chunk DLC (like MOTA). It had to do something with the amount of effort to put in with something with the system and frostbite and then I was just lost.

I guess the green glow thing has pretty much confirmed these guys from the survey as the early inquisitor mock-ups.

The gist of it was that if it was just a companion, then the base game would have to have something of them there so they'd be able to interact with it. People see that, take it as "they're already on the disk, I shouldn't have to pay extra for it".

I remember when the announcement first came out about DLC characters, Allan Schumacher told us there was not a cut DLC character in Inquisition. He said it might be a problem in future games, but it hadn't resulted in a DLC based cut in Inquisition due to the time extension. They either incorporated it into the nine or it was never planned for the final game. I'm sure, because he responded to my post to say it. I'll look for the conversation.

No problem. The DLC comments by Gaider caused a lot of confusion, all around, it seems. lol

I'm super cautious about assuming things from dev posts now, but I guess we could take from this post that they hadn't planned a DLC character before the idea of a DLC character was cut?

So it's not a case of cutting someone, but rather just never adding them in the first place. Which would mean, I suppose, that the nine base party members who they originally planned are the nine that have remained?

What it seemed to me that he was saying is that the character they'd planned for DLC got folded in with the time extension, so we were basically getting it for free now. In order to have a DLC character, they'd have to make a whole new character, because the other character was already incorporated. No DLC character just meant that they weren't making someone new, not that they cut someone, basically.

That's how I took it, anyway. Maybe Allan will come by and clarify if I totally misunderstood him. I apologize in advance if this is the case. lol

I... I think the new trailer just confirmed DHMG, the Warden and... Cole?

So, the new trailer showed all the companions and advisors.... So basically.

Males:6

Females:3

Warriors : Cassandra, Warden, Bull

Mages : Mustache, Solas, Vivienne

Rogues: Sera, Varric, Unknown

I am 8/9 guessed companions....Of course this white haired rogue took me by surprise. I am little dissapointed since we get 6 males and only 3 females. At least we know Cullen, Leliana and Scribe are advisors and we do not really know how big their role is. I would assume the romances are as follow:

1. Warden 1. Cassandra
2. Solas     2. Sera
3. Cullen    3. Scribe

I really hoped Sera is hot, but this new video kind of destroys these expectations. Scribe girl is not my type too. So, no real hotties for the first time. Except Leliana who is beyond gorgeus, but i suspect is not romanceable and i dont want her to be. I really hope this new guy is not Cole. I really do.

Sera actually looks much better here than I thought she did in the concept art.  In fact everyone looks awesome.  If that's Cole (pleeeassee be Cole), his hair looks different than described in the novel, but maybe he got a haircut lol.  So very cool *still freaking out*

I'm actually really pleased with this line up. Plus, seeing as Cullen is a romance and an adviser, I imagine him, Scribe Girl and Leliana will be well defined characters, just as interesting as our actual companions, much like Jade Empire did with Kang the Mad. Which means at least 12 companion-ish level characters in terms of quality writing, that thought makes me giddy.

Well done, Bioware, well done.

I love the bit at the end that has all of the Inquisition standing around a table BUT I'm hoping its not everyone, 6 males and 3 females is most unbalanced I've seen a Bioware companion list so fingers crossed there is another woman hiding somewhere.

Of course Leliana could be back as a companion!

That's exactly how I pictured his hair, what does the book say exactly? :D

Nevermind, I couldn't see him well enough in the trailer.  He's described in the novel as having shaggy blonde hair.  It's easier to see the shaggy hair on the group picture on the official site.  :wizard:

How is Cole even possible? I mean if you kill Wynne or\and Shale in your playthrough, the Asunder events will be...messed up?

He existed in the novel before Wynne and Shale became involved in Asunder's plot, so I don't see how he couldn't turn up in Inquisition. At a guess they'll be vague about the specifics of the book plot.
