all that comes to mind is opening your mod in tanita's - but what to do next was explained in another post some year or so ago.

I had an issue when I moved a save game and the module from my laptop to my PC for testing, I've done it a lot of times and it always worked but one time it didn't and I think it told me something was corrupted. Now the module worked from the save on the laptop but for some reason an exact copy wouldn't even open in the end I gave up and ran the test from the end of the previous module not the save but thinking about it now I might not have swapped the campaign folder with the new one from the laptop. So fiddle about with what's in your campaign folder just in case, you could even stick it all in your override to see what happens.

I hope it's something simple, good luck !

PJ,

did you try moving the Campaign.cam file out of campaign folder and recreating it from scratch?

Also, any luck when deleting the <user\temp\NwN2> folder structure?

I created a new temp structure and copied the modules etc across but that did not work. I will try the campaign.cam.

also, the temp dir.

It's a long shot, and I'm rather hoping it's the Campaign.cam file ...
since i'm not sure you've tried it, find your <user\temp> directory and, if you have to, clean it out. On winXP :

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\NWN2\*

It's created/refreshed whenever you play, and contains a bunch of stuff that sure looks like it goes into saves -- there's a slight chance, i figure, that it may contain a rogue file of some sort.

The campaign.cam had mixed results :)

I can save the game and get the old games nack but it does not see my journals and all the custom content has disappeared.

Mixed emotions right now :)

I am going to look at the temps directory now as well.

Really weird, all of the 2da's have reverted to stock when I did this? It's like the module is associated with the campaign but is not seeing the resources.

Okay, I got the whole things connected up again with the new camapign.cam and the save game issue is back. It starts the module okay from the campaign start but doe not allow the modules to start from a save game. I am going to clear that temp directory now if I can find it. It is not on the same path in Win7.

See now ... why do computers have to be so F******g complicated.

The temp folder is hidden in Win 7 it appears, in app data which is in users but not visible, unless you go to the control panel and make it view able by checking the view all folder box after which, in my case, it's still not view able.

Win clean will clean out temp files but I have no way of confirming it has cleared out the ones I want deleted cos I cant get to the folder to confirm.

The irony is that this is the bank holiday. I planned to get lots done over this weekend. In RL and the toolset, then S**t like this comes along.

Ho Hum,

Okay,

I hope I have not lost you on this I really need some ideas.

In summary:

The campaign starts from the launcher and the opening module starts. It does not matter which of the three modules I start with, each one starts okay and plays normally. However, the journal entries do not show and if I save the game and then try to reload the module corrupt gui come up. If I try to transition from Mod 1 to Mod 2 within the game the same happens, the modules fails to load and the corrupt gui comes up.

This only happen on this campaign, the OC, Andysks's campaign and my own TLoS campaigns work perfectly.

I have tried the following:

1. I have rebuilt the campaign using new folders, tested it with a test area and confirmed I can save the module and use the journal. I then transferred the campaign and module resources across and the same bad things happened.
2. I have emptied the temp folder in users/appdata/local/Temp/NWN2
3. I have created a new campaign.cam file in the campaign.
4. I have created an new NWN2 users area and transported the folders to there.
5. I have saved and reallocated the modules to the campaign (several times :()
6. I have been through the campaign folder looking for odd files and deleting them.
7. I have reduced the size of the campaign folder.
8. I have restored the modules from back-ups.
9. I have created a new module with its associated resource files and then populated it with the module content. Creating a new mod and stating it from the associated campaign folder.

The only thing I have not tried is a re-install of NWN2 but I am loath to do that. The fact that the other games work suggests this is an issue with my new mod only. It's getting to the point where this is all that's left to me.

If anyone can think of anything that will help please do post.

At this moment in time I am not concerned that i have lost the work, it's all there but in what form?

Just a funny idea. Have Mod 1 and Mod 2 the same tag? I don't think that it matters but perhaps the engine is fooled in that case and tries to load Mod 1 over itself when you transition.

Thanks for the reply,

Good thought but they are tagged differently.

I don't think computers are complicated they're just really stupid and just because you spell a tag wrong they never think that you must've meant fred not fted because he's the only one talking to the PC and in the area.. No they just stop the game, then again the alternative is probably terminators !

Anyway rant over and here's a thought, maybe it's saying your mod/save is corrupted because something's missing not damaging it. Like the journal, is it all set up for a campaign not module ? If when you play there's an update then you try to jump mods the computer wont find it but believe it must have it and because it's not in the campaign it'll think something's gone wrong and scream corruption. Either way if your other modules work then I don't think a reinstall will help.

Try putting your journal in your test mod/campaign then give some updates with the console and see if you can save then reload or jump into another test mod.

To make you feel better I didn't have a holiday today and went to work ( had my brainwave re. your mod whilst mowing a lawn ), painted a bench and table for one of my customers and then it rained !

Those are good thoughts. I tried the journal in the new campaign first and it appeared to work but I did not try to save it and reload no to transition.

I will try that now.

PJ

PS: I mowed a lawn today too :)

I never had a corrupt save error, but the empty journal always occur when I try to separate journal entries specific to the module and campaign journal entries (valid whatever module you're in). Basically, the only way I found is to have ALL journal entries in the campaign journal, and keep the modules journals empty.

Another thought: when you start each module, is the starting point the same as the WP when you move from one module to the other? Though I had a crash, not the corrupt error, when I forgot to bake the area in the next module.

Mm, I've encountered 4760's baking example, too.

Given what you listed doing as #4, you probably already checked this, but could there be both a module folder and a module .mod?

I will look at that as well.

There is certainly a disconnect between the journal and the game and that may be at the root of this. All the entries are in the campaign journal. When asked to update the journal (always from convo with ga_journal) I get a blank box. I set up a multi mode test and it worked fine with the journal entries transposed. So it seems to be an issue with the journal I have.

I have had to rebuild this mode because of the journal before. I am going to check out that thread but I am sure the answer was a rebuild with a new journal folder. I have done that here though so it's an odd one.

I am going to feed the children then ponder this some more.

Things have gone from good to bad to worse ...

I build a whole new campaign out of one of the module. I did not overwrite any source file so only content was copied. I ran it in the game and the journal worked and I was able to save and all was good.

However all the cc was missing so I went back to the tools and added the correct haks etc to the game. I then reran the game and went through the opening convo.

This time the journal did not update and instead of opening the first are the game crashed to desktop.

So it seems my problem is due to custom content, perhaps an excess of it? It may also mean that this module is not going to work at all in its current form. I don't know how I broke it but broken it is.

Any one want some prefabs ....

I backed off on the custom content in the campaign folder and now the crash has stopped but he save and journal issues are back.

I wonder if the file size is the issue here. The campaign is 2.4 GB but it was much bigger because I was using it to set up the PJPC stuff. A lot I was not using it was just sat there so I have trimmed it. What I have left is what i am using but not very efficiently especially with the BCK stuff.

Before I embark upon a trimming exercise it would be good to know that this is the issue.

AndySKS campaign folder was up at 3+GB and there is no issues there?

PJ, don't know if you've checked this, and I don't know if it would matter, but it's a thought.

Are all your journal entries in proper sequence?  e.g. 10,20,30, etc.; not 10, 30, 20,  etc.

Also, is does the module that doesn't load have a valid start location, and is the start location someplace that is accessible, i.e. on the walkmesh?

2.4 and 3gb campaign folders seems a bit excessive I don't think my latest mod was that big and it's got 13 modules in it and NWN2 is only about 5gb and that's a lot of content plus the game mechanics. You could split it into haks specific to each module.

I will check the former, I know the starts are in the right place.

I am thinking along those lines as well. I'm not sure how at the moment but I need to deconstruct it somehow.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Okay, some good new to end the day with :)

The game now saves. I put the campaign folder on a diet and trimmed it down to 600 MB, the bits I am actually using are in haks. I need to go through the areas tomorrow and trim out the cc I have not allowed myself. then I have to solve the journal problem. I think for that I will try copying a blank .jrl file into the campaign and rebuilding it.

I could be back to sq 1 by the end of the week.

If I have solved the saving and transition issue, then I am happy with my progress. That was the bit that could have killed the project.

So a word of warning I guess, though it is early days. Don't let your campaign folder get to fat. That makes sense I suppose:

I shall hypothesize that the save file has a size limit and if it leaves info out them it becomes corrupted. Any takers on that one.

Resources in the campaign folder are not included in the save files, so they don't contribute to save bloat.

I don't think it's that simple. My campaign folder used to be 4, 3gb and I've been trimming it to 3, somthing over the past months... once I knew which content I need and which not. In any case, I mever run into issues except long toolset loading times due to global blueprints being so many. Am I balancing on a rope maybe :)... will see. But it's true, something doesn't seem so natural and I want to trim the size even more than that.
