I'm fascinated by them. These Death Mages are rumored to rule Nevarra through the ailing king, and host necromantic rituals in the Grand Necropolis for the nobles they service.

How much power do you think these mages have? I mean, is Nevarra the real mage mecca? I'm thinking this order has a network of nobles willing to aid them for a chance at, what's hinted to be IMO, immortality or resurrection.

Were I in charge of this group, I'd attempt to weaken the Chantry and templars in Nevarra, loosen circle restrictions, quit messing around with Orlais while Celene's on the throne, and build up magic-based infrastructure in the country.

So, what are your thoughts on the Mortalitasi?

They sound very much like the Ayyad from " the Wheel of Time " series by Robert Jordan. They are essentially magic users who are the power behind the throne. I am curious to learn more about them though...

Are they for real? or are they the puppet masters?

Cant wait to find out...

Well they are mages so they are disaster magnets i doubt that they are loved or have much power perhaps indvidual mage have but not group not mention that it is chantry society...

And thanks to them Nevarra have big problems with possessed corpses.

Considering that most of what we know about the Mortalitasi come from rumors, I suspect that the truth isn't really what the rumors are spreading. Especially, if the rumors are generated from Orlais (a known enemy of Nevarra) and/or the Chantry (Nevarra isn't following their dogma at 100%).

Maybe the mortalitasi realise how lucky they are to have the freedom and respect they have in Nevarra in comparison to the other nations of Thedas that they don't feel the need to resort to bloodmagic, necromancy and the like....

They're the sole reason I was so disappointed about not going to Nevarra

I suspect the Mortalitasi are out for themselves and don't care much for general Mage freedom. I'd be interested to discover how much of their dogma they believe and how much, if any, is generated to wield power in Nevarra.

The Mortalitasi are apparently related to the king by blood, perhaps members of the Pentaghast clan who have magical potential are sent to that order instead of the Circle

To address your first point, these mages are said to be respected for their role in Nevarran society, and they are plenty powerful because of it. WoT says that the Mortalitasi are wealthy, well-organized, and hold political sway. Also, they're supposedly the best schooled mages outside Tevinter.

Being a mortalitasi mage doesn't seem to carry the stigma being a circle mage does, and they don't seem to have the typical problems of circle mages.

And yes Nevarra is an Andrastian nation, but magic practice is said to be different there, similar to how magic practice differs in Andrastian Tevinter from the rest of Thedas. WoT says there are "special aspects" to magic practice in Nevarra, and indicates the Mortalitasi order is just one among many of those special practices.

And about possession, you'd think they'd be aware of this issue and have some sort of measure against it. I don't expect absolute protection against corpse possession, but something to reduce the risk of it. I'd hope so, anyway, and if so, maybe something like that could be used to reduce mage possession as well.

I rly have problems with beliving in it considering how much disasters mages are causing there is little wonder they are hated almost everywhere so it would be asspull.

Well considering that they have a lot problems with undead they don't have solution their apparence even probably increases chances of possession so another reason to hate mages...

Not all of it is rumor. It's rumored they're a death cult, but it's fact that they study death extensively. They're rumored to be a secret society of necromancers, but it's fact that they experiment with necromancy. It's rumored they're ruling Nevarra through the old king, but it's fact that they're politically sharp. According to WoT, anyway.

And what if blood magic and necromancy make them better at their art?

It hasn't been said that Nevarra has some incredible problem with undead because of the mummification, however.

Well it is rather obvious as only they have such problem.

Are they? I had the idea they might be circle recruits, the best available spirit and creation mages in Nevarra offered an alternative career/life after evaluation, recommendation. And if the order regularly advises thousands of noble families, they have to be a decent sized group, and perhaps not just Pentaghasts. Also, the politics of them being only Pentaghasts would rub the nobility the wrong way IMO. That would be some crazy social control if so.

The only thing that ever says anything of the sort starts with "They are rumored to". Nowhere does it say they do so as a fact.

Why jeopardize their positions in society by screwing with the Chantry and Templar Order? That would definitely be baiting an Exalted March on Nevarra, and since their organization is already a source of controversy within their own country, you can bet the nobility would throw them under the bus in order to avoid that.

Nevarra, with all those mummified corpses, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen with the veil tears in DAI.
