At the minute what I'm thinking is:-

- Male Qunari Rogue

- Bearded Warden, sword/shield

- DHMG, healing

- Iron Bull, two handed

It's so tough nailing down who I want, Vivienne sounds like she would be a lot of fun to have around,Cassandra seems to be a badass , Sera looks like she might be the kind of snarky, sarcastic type of characters that I love having around, and then there is Varric, I'm not convinced I will be able to make a party without him, never have managed a playthrough of DA2 without him constantly in my party

Solas... <_<  meh

- male qunari mage Inquisitor

- Iron Bull

- Varric

- Cassandra or Sera depending on whether Sera is an LI

DHMG will probably get some time as well.

Apparently you can change weapon loadouts for characters; give either Cass or Beardy a two hander instead of a sword & board.

True but as someone else said we can respec our companions within their class.  So any warrior can be 2hand or Sword and board.  Any rouge can be archer of dual wield and so on.

I didn';t know they were planning on doing this, but I think this is a really good idea.

For my canon run:
- Archer (probably) Ashtal, the qunari Inquisitor
- S&B Cullen
- Destroyer Dorian (blood mage plz)
- Healer/Buffer/Debuffer Vivienne

The mages will probably swap if Dorian isn't a blood mage.

This will all probably change once we find out more about them, but just from little glimpses we've gotten I think this could be a fun party.

My inquistor will be a elf warrior (DPS).

Party will probably be Cassandra, Sera and a mage, not sure who to pick yet.

You know what I take back my list.  as with all the games I will change it up as I go.  I never stick to only three companions.  Sometimes I feel like hangin with Alistair and Sten...  Other times maybe I want Oghren and Zevran.  So this game will be no different.

-Male Human Mage, specced as a damage dealer primarily, with a healing spell or two

-Dorian (DHMG) probably specced with mainly healing/buffing

-S/S Iron Bull/GW

-Varric with dual wielding daggers (sorry Bianca!)

Here's a question; when Varric's using the daggers, will Bianca still be visible on his back?

That'd be kinda cool. Have his daggers at his sides, but have Bianca on his back.

It's either that or I don't use him at all. My favorite party configuration requires a dual wielding rogue.

Sera, Solas and Grey Warden, I think. But only if I play as a mage. If not, then Sera, Solas and whichever other mage I like best. Maybe even all three mages, but I really want to take Sera around....

I hope so, I doubt I'd just leave her lying around.

Okay fine, but there has to be some ingame grumbling from him.

tbh it's the same for me with my Dalish Mage and one of my Lady Kossith

I'll be a Mage, and I'll definitely want either Vivienne or that beautiful man DHMG, so another party member with a ranged weapon is kind of pointless. It was no big deal to do that in Dragon Age 2 but with the limited health potions/no automatic health regen, plus the lack of scaled-to-level enemies, it'd be more of an inconvenience than anything to allow Varric to use Bianca.

For my main:

Archer dwarf rogue.

Varric with Bianca.

Vivi as a healer.

Iron Bull with sword and shield.

I plan on playing on hard mode, so I'll need the right team and a little bit of grinding ;D.

I'd love that, believe me, I'm all about the Mages.

but with the new changes in combat and strategy, it's not the wisest party choice.

Unless they're all super-mages. Then it is okay.

Considering how we know next to nothing about the changes besides non regenerating health; I'm quite curious has to how you've managed to arrive at this conclusion.

What, that we can cripple their body parts?  We have no idea if mages do or do not have abilities that can do that.  My first guess would be that they can since dragons tend to be weak towards ice and we all know mages have plenty of ice attacks.  Point being: might want to wait until we have the full run down of class abilities and trees before we start calling particular class set ups as non viable.  The only thing I can think of is it would be maybe somewhat necessary to have a rogue only so they can disable traps and open chests.
