Ok, this is a thread I'm starting on the ranger pet DPS-sort of a project of mine. The wikia gives you level 10 pet stats and how the pet stats level, but that's not something that can help you determine level 15 or 20 pet stats unless you're really good at math. I'll list the level health, armor, attack, defense, damage per attack and armor penetration calculations for each level based on the ranger wikia page.I'll start first with wolf, and then do bear and spider later on. Wolf's attack speed is 1.5

 

Wolf:

 

10-245.5 health, 5.5 armor, 79.5 attack, 83.0 defense, 30.2 damage, 4.8 AP.

To add insult to injury they also get 2.5 combat health regenerations at Master Ranger.If the scaling on the wikia is right-it's not going to take long at all for these pets to get really tough. Not a lot's going to damage a wolf with 136 defense.

 

Ok-defense scores were a little off. I initially used 2.2 for defense instead of 2.3 like it should have been.

Bear Summon

 

I'll use the Bear form primarily against tough foes that have a lot of HP and good defense. The Slam attack works to take aggro off any other tank you may have, and I have seen the Bear Overwhelm. I expect all the summons can Overwhelm, but never seen a spider do it yet.I made some initial mistakes in my first table, and will look to correct it later on.Once again, I put health, armor, attack, defense, D/Hit, and AP in that order. I'll list all in the first post to help things along.One other thing-bear does do a dualhit, two hits at once.

Did you verify any of these numbers? Defence and armour penetration match for the level 13 wolf, the rest doesn't.

Yes, the wolf stats I need to go back and correct-I made a couple initial mistakes in that estimate.

 

I'm using the wikia estimate for level 10 and what the ranger page says about how the stats increase after level 10. if the wikia is wrong, then my estimates will also be wrong. There also might be a difference between console and PC-they may not be the same for both. The assumption with the level 10 stats assumes you got Master Ranger as soon as possible, and have all Ranger skills by level 12. I believe pet level is always 2 levels below your ranger once you get to Master Ranger.

 

I'm on console and there's no way to double check anything-you never see the pet stats. I'm assuming the numbers are correct based on the information on the ranger wikia page.

 

I'm not able to double check anything-but if you have access to the numbers on PC-you might be able to double check things-post a separate entry about what the actual results are-as compared to what the wikia says the numbers should be.

 

For example, the wikia says it's 2.2 attack, 2.3 defense, 2.6 damage every level after 10 for wolf. That could be wrong though.

The wiki is the best resource we have, but it is a bit of a mixed bag as regards accuracy. Formulas in particular can only be trusted to the extent that you have verified them yourself. Basically, the wiki gives you a bit of a head start for your own research and reasonably good working hypotheses.

On a console you are up the proverbial without a paddle. If you have damage floaties then you can measure spell strength, elemental resistances and - within certain limits - enemy HP, but that's about it.

On problem with the wiki is that some of the stuff is based on hearsay about hearsay, or magic numbers and formulas ripped from the game scripts without any regard for casualties. I've already corrected and extended some entries but for a lot of stuff I just haven't had the time to do the necessary verification work. Take spell damage, for example. I worked out the correct formulas and got them working in DA:O with 100% accuracy 100% of the time, but in DLC with Awakening rules (like Amgarrak) they are a bit off. Until I figure out what's going on there's little point in posting the results - that would only increase the amount of noise instead of reducing it.

P.S.: I guess it would be possible to get accurate numbers by measuring some boundary cases (levels 7 and 25 for DA:O, 7 and 35 for DA:A and other DLC) and tweaking the formulas accordingly, then verifying that they work for randomly chosen levels.

I might suggest level 12 instead of 7. You get the upgraded beast forms with Master Ranger, and I suspect Bear and Spider summons get Overwhelm at that time as well.

I went and measured a great bear for a level 25 master ranger in DA:O (Leliana) and Amgarrak (Jerrik). The good news is that both bears had the same stats. The bad news is that the formulas in the wiki do not work.

Having three data points for the great bear (levels 13, 22 and 31) I could ascertain that none of the stats values is linear with regard to level, meaning that the results of linear interpolation must always be more or less off.

 

It would be possible to compute factors that give better approximations than the ones in the wiki, but I don't see the point.

 

A better approach would be to hack a script that makes a ranger summon each type of pet in turn and dumps their stats to the log file, levelling the summoner and repeating until the level cap is reached. That way it would be irrelevant whether the data can be interpolated with reasonable accuracy or not, since the resulting tables would have the actual values.

Combat damage cannot be measured directly, and getting accurate values for it requires a bit of extra research. Basically, it involves having the pet beat on some punching bag and measuring the damage done with each hit, for a reasonably high number of hits to get statistically significant data. Results will be posted when they are ready.

Adding other stats that can be queried via GetCreatureProperty() would be easy, though. It only requires adding the property id to a list in the script, rerunning the tests and then rerunning the analysis steps. No manual work involved apart from adding one number or identifier to the script.

The level of ranger pets is 0.75 * caster_level, and with Master Ranger it is 0.90 * caster_level.

Master pets have exactly the same level-dependent stats as normal pets of the same level, with one exception. The attack score for blight wolves is higher by 7 than that for normal wolves.
 
Values up to 25 were rounded to 1 decimal, higher values were rounded to the nearest integer.

Very nice! I do wonder-is there a reason bears don't have elemental resistance like the wolves and spider do? I wonder if that carries over to shapeshifting, where the bear form doesn't seem to have nature resistance but the wikia mentions it has 50%.

 

Speaking of shapeshifting-I suspect it levels based on your base spellpower, not total spellpower.The + stats to gear and +magic seem to help more than +spellpower.

As you can see, the shapeshifter bears don't have elemental resistances either.

 

I recently researched similar problem. There are some properties that are supposed to be common to all darkspawn, like 15% vulnerability to fire. There are some other properties - like 5% spell resistance - that are supposed to be common to all genlocks. However, a bit of SQL fu turned up this: of a total of 322 genlocks contained in the various maps of Origins, only 249 are tagged as darkspawn, and only 9 are tagged as genlocks. Of these, only 8 are tagged both as darkspawn and as genlocks. No wonder that certain theories in the wiki don't always pan out.
 

What boggles the mind about this is that such stuff could be automatically checked, since the toolset data is kept in an SQL server database. It could even be corrected with little more than a click of a button.

Darth-a few final questions.

 

1. The wikia mentions attack speeds of 1.5 for spider, 1.6 for wolf, and I think 2.5 for bear.Are these numbers accurate, and are they identical to the shifted forms?

 

2. Swarm Form-the wikia mentions it's the fastest, but doesn't give a attack speed. Is the attack speed for Swarm Form in the toolset?

Finally got around to letting my Desire Demon exercise her pet summoning skills a bit more. I added all known properties to the test set except for things like PROPERTY_SIMPLE_AGE, for a total of 40 properties. The succubus took about an hour to go through the whole routine in DAO, DAA, GoA and WH, collecting 25200 data points which I then subjected to some SQL fu.

As before, there were no differences between DAO and the DLCs apart from the level cap. Of the 21 new properties, only the six base attributes and spellpower (as derivate of Magic) varied with level. The constant properties had the same values for all pets, and in most cases these were neutral values (0.0 for additive properties, 1.0 for multiplicative).

1. The wikia mentions attack speeds of 1.5 for spider, 1.6 for wolf, and I think 2.5 for bear.Are these numbers accurate, and are they identical to the shifted forms?


The attack speed of pets and shapeshifter forms is animation-controlled, like for all non-humanoids and toons without weapons equipped. This means that Swift Salve and Haste don't have any effect on attack speed, and also that scripts cannot easily query or measure the effective attack rate.
 

2. Swarm Form-the wikia mentions it's the fastest, but doesn't give a attack speed. Is the attack speed for Swarm Form in the toolset?


The 'attack speed' of the Flying Swarm form is the rate of its AoE tick, once every 1.5 seconds. Movement speed is 2. I couldn't find the AoE radius in the scripts or in the game data tables; however, it must be around 5 metres. Damage is attenuated to 50% at a distance of 3.8 metres, to 25% at 4.5 metres. The damage per tick is effectively

(5 + SP/6) * (1 + R)

with SP being spellpower and R a random floating point number in the range [0, 1).

I had Fiona equip Wade's, Andruil's Blessing, the High Regard, Cailan's Arms and Lifegiver for the tests, resulting in 12.8 mana regen and 3.7 HP regen. In that getup the Flying Swarm could tank two darkspawn melee grunts pretty much forever, and it had a good chance of taking out an elite bronto or emissary. Pity that the swarm leeches health, not mana.

Depopulating the Dead Trenches with shapeshiftery was a lot of fun, by the way, and it confirmed the amazing synergy between Shapeshifter and Arcane Warrior. Even down to the fact that both profit equally from a bit of STR or DEX for boosting attack.

The Dex/Con growth for pets seems very similar to the growth you see for shapeshifter.There are some significant STR differences with spider, but the ability to equip items while shifted helps equalize things.It might even help them pull ahead in Awakening.

Was Shale included in those tests?She could help improve those numbers quite a bit.
