Bioware gave Liara so much importance because

I could post a few more polls/surveys/statistics, but you get the idea. Bioware wanted to please as many fans as possible with limited resources (-> they give more content to the most popular squadmates). And they also want to make money, of course ( -> Liara DLC, comics, statues, t-shirts, etc.). The developers confirmed, for example, that Lair of the Shadow Broker was made in response to fans being disappointed in Liara’s too-tiny role in ME2.

The players were co-creators of the series, simple as that. And most fans wanted more Liara, just like they wanted more Garrus, no MAKO,...

That poll lists Kaidan and Ashley as possible squadmates at the same time. What would have been really surprising is if they got the most votes.

I've answered problems with the polls before that you've seemed to ignore, but getting right back to the point: How does that force Liara to be the bestie no matter what? Any rational non-LI (and there are more not Liara LI's than yeses) seeing their armor enshrined in her apartment (and it's been a while since I play it, but didn't she rip the dog tags off my corpse too?) would think this ****** is nuts.

What difference does it make whether or not she is a friend, a lover, a neutral party, or some deranged stalker? The game shoehorns it, but honestly, the came could have worked without ut

its always good when players have a say as lair of the shadow broker is the best dlc, when they don't you get omega

Like Omega isn't a good DLC.

Those polls don't mean crap.

How popoular of a squadmate would T'soni and Garrus have been if they were only available after the coup like Tali is?

That poll also is for a default playthrough.

My poll is the one that counts for me. I use Ashley and James. And my LI is Samantha

And my opinion is the one that matters when I play the game the way I want to. Right?

Yes.

But Bioware isn't making the game for themikefest.

Btw, you guys are awfully coldhearted towards Liara.

You know, that woman that made ME2 and ME3 happen. Without Liara, no Shepard. Forced friendship? Yes of course, and if you can't be a friend to someone after she saved your life, you're a horrible human being.

Why shouldn't I be? The thing takes my armor and displays it in her apartment like its some kind of trophy. I get a what-the-crap hug from the thing. She decides not to tell anyone she gave my body to Ceberus especially Shepards mother(for those who play as a spacer)

T'soni did not save Shepard. Its hard to save someone when they're already dead. And if not being a friend with her makes me a horrible human being, then I have no problem with that.

There's a right and a wrong way to do prominence. Dictating that Liara is Shepard's most important person regardless of player feeling on the matter and having her skills and personality malleable to the needs of plot is not the way.

Merging shiala and liara would have been good; however you would (if she was still killable) be facing a potential me2 where wvery single squadmate could be dead or not recruited.
The problems that were caused for me2>3 would be present from the off.

The thing made it possible for you to have these feeling at all. Without the thing, you'd be dead.

You can only roleplay so much a in a game. A large part of the role you play is decided by the story, whether you like it or not.

Even worse if you romance A/K. Liara's now not told their lover about their possible resurrection (even without, it's a douchey move)

Puts that conversation she mentions about hiding Tali's feelings for Shepard in a more sinister light.

Shepard is already dead when T'soni gives the body to Cerberus.

If I was to guess why she didn't tell Ashley/Kaidan, Shepard's mother or even Anderson or anyone else, it would be she was worried people would look at her a different way and she may lose whatever friendships she had. This is only my observation and it could be that she did it for other reasons. We will never know.

Yes. Do I owe 'the thing' anything for it? I don't feel I do. In fact, I feel 'the thing' did what she did out of entirely selfish reasons. It makes no sense for her to do what she does.

This is true. It should not go into defining the character you play as personally or the relationships of your PC with other characters. I want to be able to define who and what my Shepard places value in.

I'd say to go read the rest of my posts here: suffice to say, Liara is one of the worst written characters in the series. She's what the writers want her to be whenever its convenient for her to be something else.

1) changes nothing whatsoever. You still owe her your life. And Miranda and Cerberus aswell. (a little off: this is why you work with Cerberus, regardless of how you or your Shepard feels about them)

2) Yes you want, but you can't.

3) I read some earlier. I disagree. There's nothing wrong with T'Soni's character.

The same reasoning you are 'forced' to be friends with liara is the same you are 'forced' to work with cerberus.
Because that's the game.

There are 99% complaints about Liara and 98% of them is due to Bioware being super lazy with character development.

As much as I love Liara, she would have been a way more interesting character if Bioware bothered to expand her character. Most of my problems stem with ME not having a approval/disapproval system like DA because it would make characters like Liara and Garrus far more interesting.

I think all the characters add a lot to the story, the writers just made a mistake trying to make one character more "important" to the plot than others, imo.

Ever since I first saw that romance chart I've always wanted to know if there's a way to divide the Liara number up between Femshep and Sheploo instead of just putting it together.

And I'm much more tolerant of plot railroading than emotional railroading. Look at DA2. Anders is canonically in love with Hawke pretty much regardless of what Hawke does. How Hawke feels about this, or even whether he's in the party past the midpoint of Act 2 is entirely at the player's discretion. Big emotional moments occur with family, the LI, or the two characters who aren't LI options--and they can hate your guts. There's much DA2 does wrong from a gameplay standpoint but it has a voiced protag and still leaves most of the defining of relationships to the player.

I would also be curious at what the numbers would be if every LI were available in all 3 games

I would also be curious to see how popular the squadmates used would be if everyone ME2/ME1 squadmates were available at the beginning of ME3
