I guess I'll have to keep that in mind when playing a Dalish Inquisitor.

Well, that I kind of get(I think the image in the trailer actually looked kind of dopey, to be honest, but I'm given to understand DG has compared him to a rather handsome actor I had never heard of). 

 

It's everything else I don't understand.

 

I also think that there's a certain level of double standard in it; were Cole female but otherwise entirely the same I think anyone who expressed interest in Colette would be flamed to the black city and back(arguably deservedly so).

It's also entirely possible that Weekes wrote a non-straight character that isn't a romance. Iron Bull could very well be gay, but that doesn't mean he'll be a romance.

Yea, and it causes a big stir. Neither of them think it's even an option at first and both feel really ashamed afterwards. You also get a lecture from the clan's first over it.

 

And if you convince them to hook up with each other, you get another lecture from the first about how they should have waited and you shouldn't have meddled.

 

I also get the distinct impression that arranged marriages happen a lot in Dalish culture. It's the only really good way to make sure that people marry and have children with elves of other clans, which is vital to the survival of the Dalish.

Yeah, I'm not really one to tell others who they can crush on, but it does squick me out a bit that people are wanting to engage in a romantic (and possibly sexual) relationship with a guy who has the mind of a child.  I get that's he handsome (the actor you were referencing was Evan Peters, I think), but that isn't really enough in my opinion.  Of course that might be because I'm an adult.  I'm sure that there are people on the boards in their teens and, in that case, it's not as questionable to be attracted to Cole.  In fact, my 16 year old niece was just talking to me about how hot she finds Evan Peters over Easter, so I kind of get it from that perspective.

While I wouldn't care if Iron Bull was gay or not(big fan of Spartacus, so I don't have a problem with badass gays), I think it's important to remember that Patrick writes for Celene and Briala, too.

Cullen - likely hetero-l

The only way he writes female LI if he writes Scribbles, then she is bi-l or ******-l. Then either Cassandra is straight, or Vivienne/Sera

I think to a certain extent what bugs me about the Cole thing is that I just don't get it.

I understand why people want to romance pretty much everyone else, even if they don't appeal to me. Cole's just the one I do not get, at all.

I want to understand, though I'm not sure that I can.

I want to address this; then I'll stop being offtopic.

For me, it is less about his character design being attractive and more about his character concept being intensely interesting.

...not that blonde-haired pretty boys aren't attractive, of course...

I stand behind the theory that Cole is a spirit that has somehow managed to pass through the Veil and maintain a physical form... somewhat, anyway. And at great cost.
What we know about spirits and demons in Thedas is both limited and always heavily colored by the biases of whomever we learn from. While my characters usually have an opinion, as a player my view on spirits and demons is fairly neutral. I don't believe they are inherently good or evil. They are beings that are different from mortals, and their yearning to experience mortal life is something I find intriguing.

A romance plot with Cole (an aged-up, more self-aware Cole) would interest me for the potential both for character development and learning more about what he is and how he came to be. Of course, a romance is not necessary for either of those things, and if Cole is a companion I'm sure I'll be satisfied anyway. But if Cole is a spirit who now has a shot at living a mortal life, I'm curious how he would view love and intimacy, since spirits seem to crave such experiences. The concept of the Inquisitor teaching Cole about mortal life (and perhaps love) may really rub some people the wrong way, and I understand why... but I think it could be heartwarming. I'd like for my mage Inquisitor to be a positive influence on Cole and maybe help him find a way to secure his mortal existence.

Absolutely true.  I went back and read the original post and it doesn't say companion.  It just says character.  The OP for that comment really exaggerated it and I didn't read closely enough (I was on the bus), so I missed it.

 

That really doesn't tell us anything that we can use.

Cole has pure heart. He is honest and devoted. He is a mystery, and secrets attract people.
Though he is dangerous, I can't deny that, it just adds to his charm in my opinion.

 

I personally can't get why so many ppl want Cullen so much. It's nothing in him for me.

Though I don't make it a problem.

I don't know what would happen if Cole was a female. I just know that i wouldn't want Li with her. Because I'm stright, that's all.
