Cassandra (potentially) being straight is legitimately the single, most horrible romance crime done by BioWare since they made James Vega unromanceable.

 

They had this completely new character Vega. They could made him whatever they wanted. They could have made him the gay romance option, but no, they gave us a random face NPC and retconned Kaidan to be bisexual, who was never interested in mShep before and this ridiculous line "You were always focused on the work back then," which never stopped him from romancing fShep. Don't get me wrong. I like to romance Kaidan and I like having Cortez on the Normandy. And I'm grateful to be included, because almost no one else includes gay people in video games, let alone in a romantic way. But I'll never understand why they choose an NPC and a retcon over Vega.

I've always suspected that they made the decision to make Vega straight and unromanceable partly to defy the expectation that existed that he was being added to the game specifically to fill that role.

I feel like I'm one of like five people who adored James. I did. I take him on my team frequently. But LadyShep deserved James. She got shafted and not in the good way. (I'm not even talking about that icky date rape scenario in Citadel DLC, which doesn't exist in my world)
