It all goes back to that darn survey leak that occurred sometime in the past.
Like many of you here, I was mulling over who might be our romance options for Dragon Age Inquisition. Then I stumbled upon this image and had an epiphany. What if these are our romance options? At first I thought it was simply a class comparison chart. Warriors, rogues (which we now know is actually the male and female Inquisitor), and then some advisor roles. But what of Sera and Dorian as the last two? It breaks the pattern as they're not of the same race or class.
Then I got to thinking about the class pattern of love interests throughout the Dragon Age games thus far. In Dragon Age Origins we have two rogues, one warrior, and one mage as a romance. In Dragon Age 2 we have two mages, one warrior, and one rogue. That leaves two warriors, one mage, and one rogue, which is surprisingly featured here. Then there's the addition of the NPC romance characters, as seen in the Mass Effect games. While it breaks the conventional 2 males and 2 females mold in the earlier Dragon Age games, I can only assume two more were added due to the expansive party to be had in Dragon Age Inquisition.
Not only might the vertical relation have importance, but the horizontal relation as well. I'm beginning to think the Warden and Cassandra are the bisexual options because it just doesn't seem right to have the first two romance-able characters announced (Cullen and Cassandra) to be female exclusive. Which would then make Cullen and the Scribe-girl the heterosexual only option, leaving Dorian and Sera to be the homosexual option.
Then, taking into consideration how many romance options we had in ME3, four per gender doesn't seem all too far-fetched. (Considering how large our party is in this game)
Kind of scary isn't it? But there are still holes in this theory such as 'why does the Inquisitor show up second instead of first on this list?' and 'why would they take a step back in racial diversity (in this context being elves, dwarves, humans, etc.) by taking away an elf and giving us another human?' Even Mass Effect broadened their horizons by giving the fans more alien romances. (Given, this is not the same team, but certainly they would learn from their successes and failures.)
Any thoughts on the matter?
