Why would Cassandra be more likely to be the lead than Leliana? They had basically the same job before the breach. Leliana actually seems more experienced, to me. Cassandra helped fight dragons, Leliana helped fight an Archdemon. Leliana wins, imo.

Leliana's personality is a combination of caring, submissive, and manipulative while Cassandra comes off aggressive and take charge. That's not to say she couldn't lead, but even if she did, you might not realize it.

Both could work.

I tend to think of Cassandra because she seems more...leadery?  That's totally a word now.  It always seemed Leliana was more comfortable in the shadows/behind the scenes.  Also, Cassandra is a Seeker and the first Inquisition became the Seekers.

The statistic on Garrus wasn't even taken on a game where Kaidan was a choice, though. Miranda got something like 40% of the LI choices in the same game, where as Garrus was only something like 5%, if I remember right. I don't think he was really the main romance "by far". I'm pretty sure it was like a 2% difference between him and Jacob.

No, he wasn't the main romance by far in the game, that would be almost impossible given that < 20% of ME players play FemShep, but given the option of him, Thane, or Jacob, he was the most romanced according to a really unscientific poll that we shouldn't give any weight, but since the person who mentioned it linked it, I thought I'd say something about it.

However, even outside of that poll, I'd say that Garrus and Kaidan are competitive as LI's as far as popularity goes. It's hard to compare them directly considering the fact that ME3 is the only game wherein you can romance both of them, and one is unavailable for new romances while the other can possibly be dead. But regardless of even that, Garrus is an extremely popular character and love interest for people who play FemShep, despite the fact that he looks like a giant metallic cricket, so I can't see them nixing Solas, Varric, or Iron Bull simply because of that.

Ah yes. Leliana will passive aggressively goad Cass into doing whatever it is she wants. I love it.

I feel next will be the shipping of Leliana and Cassandra, if neither is romanced.

That's been happening since DA2.

Cassandra is romanceable.  It's more the idea of what does it mean to be a "main" romance.  Many people list Morrigan and Alistair from the first game, since they were romanceable and still had some crit path heavy plot elements.

Some say Anders and to a lesser extent Isabela.  Again, this is because they are more tightly woven into the plot (I challenge Isabela, however, since I believe she can be entirely skipped as a companion character, and by the same token I could argue Merril is one because she has some crit path elements to her as well).

Isabela is totally optional, you can go through the game without ever meeting her. Some people call her the "main romance" because she was shown in the game official video trailer "increasing" her important in the eye of the players.

What if there were no "main" romances?

I... dunno how I'd feel about that.
While I'm all for equal options, I also enjoy me some PLOT.

Was it a bit disappointing that Alistair/Morrigan was way more plot-relevant as a romance? Yes... but those romances were great.

I romanced Leliana and was GLAD she didn't get caught up in political or dark magic-powered intrigues (poor Alistair).

That's why we hope all LIs are equally involved in the plot in a good way. :P

It looks like she got caught up in it regardless.

Speaking of Leliana, one of my Wardens romanced her. Do we know how that's going to go?

I never romanced either of them and I never felt like I lost something plot-wise. While both of them could be romanced, not romancing them didn't change anything to plot, it only affected the relationship you had with these characters and the plot did not require them to be romanced to be more meaningful.

Funny enough, the advisor LI characters might be more plot relevant than the companion ones.

This could be one advantage for that type of romance.

I agree that the plot didn't suffer, but I'd argue that romance sub-plots have more impact if they are tied into the critical plot.

The only impact is on your role-playing, not the game plot.

Then there wouldn't be any main romances :D It doesn't matter to me if my LIs don't influence the main plot. To me the LI as a character is more important than the way he influences the story. What kind of person he is and what kind of relationship we have. Sometimes I like rivalmance like Fenris rivalmance was in DA2 or sometimes the sweet Alistair romance is just for me.

Helllloooo everyone in the Romance Discussion thread!

I hope you are all headstrong and confident individuals who love to argue.

I'm not going to argue about your theorized romances, but reading too much into the survey is just plain silly.

I think this whole idea of a main romance is silly.

I find Zevran and Leliana much more interesting than Alistair and Morrigan and was glad they were the same sex options (if I had the option to choose...) I also like Fenris worlds more than Anders.

This is an RPG, yes Alistair effected the plot more than Zev, but Zevran had a significant impact on the development of who my Warden was.

I highly doubt Leliana will be romanceable, given she can be romanced by the Warden.  That would cause all sorts of...issues... :D

Yes, it's been confirmed Leli won't be LI.
