No, don't get me wrong. I'd love for it to be true, but I still think it's way too many LIs.

I really believe they will go this route. Heres hoping.

I hope so too.

That still bugs the ever living hell out of me.

It bugs me too.

I don't see how 2/2/2 with the NPC's bisexual is any less fair. Everyone gets one companion and one non-companion.

True. Not looking forward to the Cullen was retconned crying if that's the case though.

I've always consistently said I hoped the NPCs were bisexual for fairness.

I know you did. :)

No matter what BioWare does, not everyone will be happy. That's my only problem with the set sexuality system, because I want everyone to be happy at the choices we have.

I'd hardly call the choice between one LI that you can have with you for the entire game and one that you can only speak frequently with "suffering". Particularly not when the game in question has so much content that said NPC romances could very well end up with more lines and content then companion romances in Dragon Age 2.

A character you spend 30 mins with isn't comparable either in bond or content with one that you spend 40+ hours with.

I'm very worried about getting the short end of the stick as well. :(

I feel like limiting LIs always ends up favoring heterosexual relationships. I'm straight myself, but I prefer to romance companions of the same gender because it feels more "equal" to me.

I'm not surprised it does considering I'm pretty sure the m/f romances are a larger slice of the pie than the s/s ones. If I was a dev I'd put more of my effort into content I'd know would see more use.

Yes, this is my biggest issue.

It seems some have the idea that the new system will suck equally for everyone since we will all have to deal with some gender gated romance content.  All of us will have to make a sacrifice.  I'm being unreasonable because straight people will have a romance character unavailable to them just like I will.

I'm not convinced of this especially as a lesbian.  There's a great chance that the romance I will have to give up as sacrifice will be with a companion while straight male PCs have to sacrifice a non-companion.  I don't see how that's equal suckage for all of us.   While they will have one option unavailable in this example, they still have two companions they can romance.  If the situation was reversed and the lesbian PC had 2 companion options, I would personally be far more accepting of the system and the big 'sacrifice' (non-companion romance) I had to make.  Note, I still prefer the DA2 system regardless.

I haven't really thought about the male LI side of it, but Cullen will be at least bisexual (or straight).  If he's straight, I could see straight women feeling the same way as I.

True.

I was trying to look at the bright side of this then I come into this thread. I guess the bright side is hopefully the romances will be more like DAO in terms of content. I would adore beefy romances NPC or not.

If we have to save our advisors from kidnapping I will lol. Maybe if we get there too late they'e killed and the Inquisitor suffers heavily from losing them? That'd be fun.

I feel this way :( Taking up a companion slot /bitter

I don't know why bioware even bother with npc's LI. Honestly, they aren't as interesting as the companion's romances. For example, for me as a gay, I prefer 100 times Kaidan over Cortez (even though I consider cortez more attractive than kaidan).

I never saw the DA:O romances as 'beefy'.

Maybe because I always romanced Leliana...and she has no beef.

What I think you are saying is that the Morrigan/Alistair ones felt that way because they were tied to the plot and all that, right?

Overall, interactions with companions in DAO felt more 'beefy' than in DA2. Probably because in the latter most of that interaction occurred in quests rather than actual conversations.

I doubt we'll only be spending 30 minutes with our advisers.

Because there are no bisexual companions.

If your talking about this from a representation standpoint: There could still be bisexual non-LI companions.

If your talking specifically about there not being any bisexual LI companions: So what?

Aww come on now. They've had so much time to do all the content! And with the restricted romances we can hopefully get something other than dead spouses to express their preferences. Oh wait...well...we can get more dialogue centered on the gender of the PC. (Though that's not a bonus to many people...) We can get some hilarious rejections?

I do hope Lis aren't going to hit on the PC first. That annoyed me far more than anything in ME. Constantly turning people down (I had to do it 3 times in a row once just wut) is ugh. At least have it like in ME3 they recognize you're in a romance and skip those lines or something.

Oooh yeah I tend to romance Alistair D:

I hope the devs did Alistair and Morrigan like romances for everyone then. (Though really I doubt it). And yeah the comments and interjections you got in quests like sacred ashes helped flesh the romance out a lot. I'm not sure you can get the same lvl with a NPC. It's just the perception of it really.

Man, ya'll are being very quick to judge something we know nothing about. All we know is that some romance options will have preferences. Things we don't know:

  • How many total romance options there are
  • What criteria is used to determine preference (gender, race, class, action, etc)
  • What the ratio of those preferences will be

It seems a little jumpy to get upset that there "won't be enough options" or whatever without actually knowing that to be true.

They've confirmed there will be gay, bi and straight LIs, so we do know they'll be gating by gender.

Doesn't matter. Limiting player choices will always, and I mean always, be a negative for a RPG. No matter how well the romances are in this game, it is still a step backwards.

They've refused to confirm or deny any other restrictions.
