Fair enough.
See I actually wouldn't mind a NPC romance if it's said they and the protag were together before the game started. That gives them a edge over the companion romances that can somewhat equal them out vs the whole traveling around with the PC thing. And of course having them tightly woven in the plot. But that'd probably come real close to canon LI status. I guess it could work if they were childhood friends with the protagonist, having the antagonist threaten them and they are actually the antagonist/working for the antagonist for justified reasons of course. But again that'd end up with them being a Alistair/Morriganish plot relevant LI without being a companion (because they can't do their dastardly deeds if they're sitting at camp
) But I love Foe Yay and Dating Catwoman tropes so...yeah. That's one of the only ways I can see me preferring an NPC romance of a companion one. That and the companion just being utterly terrible.
Yeah good point - if they really integrated the NPCs into the plot, complete with cutscenes showing what they're up to while the PC is traversing the world, that might work.
I have serious doubt they'd do that for Cullen and Scribe Girl, though.
