haha, you beat me.. I was also going to reply...saying how she never really interacted with others besides work wise..and never had a relationship also. So she was trying her best with Shep.. haha  ^^

But what made it bizarre was the subtlety. Hinting at interest in a roundabout way using a story about the sexual proclivity of your culture is actually pretty socially aware - it's basically the scheme we all use for flirting (the hinting at interest in a roundabout way part, not the story part). Except that the forwardness of it was out of place. 

 

If she just blurted out that Shepard was cute, that'd be one thing. But she has a line that could totally work, say, after you get to know someone casually because you're dropping hints, but is just out of place when you're dropping hits to start.

I don't know. If I met someone I was interested in who happened to be member to an alien species that I didn't have a lot of experience being around I might find myself rambling on about weird aspects about being human. Doubly so if my life revolved around studying the archaeology of ancient alien species.

I actually tried to romance Tali the first time I played mass effect and was sorely disappointed. When she became a romance in 2 I thought: "too late you had your chance". Imagine my anger with bioware when she started talking like she was the one interested in me.

I'm pretty sure Liara's first conversation was about her job, and how she liked the loneliness. Anyway, I think a "love at first sight" romance arc is not necessarily bad writing. It simply depends on the character (it wouldn't make much sense for characters like Viconia or Jack for example)...and there should be some tensions/conflicts later (ME2/LotSB in Liara's case).

I hope there will be as many possibilities to talk to your companions as in Origins. In DA2 and the Mass Effect series you couldn't talk to the other team members very often. That was a pity.
