DA2 had my favorite type of romance system.

Well, I can see your point. But I personally think that DAO romances were the best. And DA2 romances made me feel awkward more than once, and I don't think it's good.

Being well written, IC or realistic does not mean good, kind or merciful.

So true.

This new system is much closer to a romance simulator.  Wanting the romances to be more like romancing 'real people'...yah

Ehm, no. Romance simulators are never realistic ;)

I recall Farrah or Gaider saying it about sexuality representations in a twitter, interview or tumblr ;)

Yes, but that had absolutely nothing to do with the bisexual followers of DA2 not representing real people. I'm not going to find the exact quote, but Gaider mentioned that the intention of the change is to be able to tell stories about characters with more sexualities. I'm glad they're taking this route, even if I may end up being a little disappointed at who my options are.

It's also an obnoxious straw-man (that's the right word, right?) to accuse people who would like more LIs of wanting to play a "hump-them-all" game. People who buy DA know they're not buying a dating simulator, they'd just like more options, because it does stink when your favorite character is unavailable to you because of gender. I agree with most of your points, but devolving into that argument just feels disrespectful.

Is someone asking for this?

Sure. How else to call a demand to be able to sleep with every LI and even some NPCs cause they like them?

I can assure you I don't want to sleep with every LI or NPC.

C'est la vie. I'd love to stay with Sten or Aveline but I never will
A shame, but I understand that they're simply not interested in my character

I was so upset when I learned that my Warden could not romance Sten, or Loghain. Well, had to stick to Zevran. He is also adorable ;)

And Aveline and Bethany were the best female characters in DA2, to me. Both were unavaliable.

eventually it will get to the point where we can have inanimate objects as love interests

Who wouldn't flirt with a chair, really? xD

You mean the system that mad only the straight players have access to more than one Li as well as access to the plot-important ones? Yeah, that system was great.  ;)

Yeah, but if you're a girl that likes Morrigan or a guy that liked Alistair then DA:O totally sucked romance-wise. Hinata does have a good point, DA2 was the most fair, even if they go 2/2/2 in DA: I there will inevitably be people (of all sexualities) who feel cheated because their favorite LI is unavailable to their gender. I do wonder how many people will still think the DA2 system was worse after their favorite LI was locked to them.

My argument for a change to the DA2 system is that I don't think that "fairness" is always the most admirable goal in a video game, and again, I'm excited about there being some gay/lesbian love interests in this game. Further, there being 6 love interests does add replay-ability to the game especially when it might force you to create a character you wouldn't otherwise make in order to romance the character you want.

I was speaking of the depth of the romances ;) and ability to approach them differently and even without noticing it

It beats a system where your character can sleep with everyone or inanimate objects, which is what we want.

We want a dating simulator that's nothing but 'sex sex sex' with everyone and everything.

But does that really have anything to do with the romances being straight? (The answer is no. The quality of Morrigan and Alistair as romances would be completely unchanged if they were bisexual.)

Yeah, but if you're a girl that likes Morrigan

I'm a bi girl that likes Morrigan. And I'm totally okay that she is straight and unavaliable to girls. What's the point of all this whining? It's how it is.

I do wonder how many people will still think the DA2 system was worse after their favorite LI was locked to them.

When I wanted to romance Morrigan, I created a male PC and played. If someone HATES to play males and doesn't want to do so, well... I don't know if I can help here. I just don't see why it has to be the problem of the devs. Or the game.

If the character is written well it should not matter. I loved my f/f, m/m, f/m romances equally.

I talk about the concept of character creation as well.
You can, but you will only some of them. Game has literal boundaries of number of companions, time used to write them and the romances.
Since it has no plot or character development relevance it wouldn't be added. Though we do see Alistair probably cooking sth and mentions of eating

Bisexuality is a set sexuality. So what's all the fuss about?

Okay, so how many homosexual couples we have seen outside of the party? Not many compared to the het ones

Oh? So Qunari exist in RL now?

Yeah and there's only 4 people you can romance in the game. 4. There's millions of people in Thedas and the PC can romance 4 at best. Restricting that even further to me is meh. But we don't see the warden cook.

? I'm not making any fuss about that so wut?

And you think that's because of set sexualities? Let's take SWTOR as an example. Plenty of straight relationships and set sexualities. Gay romances? Not until the expansion and even then it's only with 2 people compared to the 6+ straight romances per gender. That's not because of romances it's because the devs haven't put homosexual characters in the game. Even if there was a m/m exclusive LI his couple would only be seen in the game the player chose to romance him in. A homosexual character doesn't need to be an LI anymore than a straight one has to be.

That's like saying, and yes I know this is a huge hyperbole, that slaves shouldn't complain that they don't have freedom because "It's how it is". Complaints bring forth change.

Edit: This is not serious.

Nevermind that's not even how dating sims work ;_;

(**** try to date more than one person or dare not to twist your character to please your LI and watch what happens D: ) Once in a while if you follow a *extremely* specific path you *might* get a threesome/harem ending but most of the time? BAD END)

Why is it so bad that some wanted the choice to romance Morrigan with a female?

You could, ya know, still romance her with a male if you desired.

It wouldn't have been so bad if Leliana and Zev had gotten some decent attention in comparison. But jeez. You even get more banters about Alistair/Morrigan's romance than you do Zev's/Leliana's. That's messed up. (I'm trying to compare my Zev mancer's banters to my Alistair one and...yeah =/ )

I don't think anybody's whining. As a guy that prefers Zevran to Alistair I was totally super okay with the romances in DA:O. And I'll be totally fine (if maybe disappointed in some ways) with there being a LI that is unavailable to me in DA: I.

Assuming you create a character match yourself you had three options in DA:O. I had one. It happened to work out for me just fine, but I am just trying to point out to people why that might really suck. I've seen lots of gay guys complain about not really liking Zevran and being unable to play a fulfilling romance in DA: O. I'm sure many lesbians gamers felt the same way about Leliana.

I'm not asking you to agree with me that DA2 did romances better than DA:O. I just constantly see people say "DA:O did romances way better than DA2." and I'm trying to explain why, for me, that isn't true. I'm tired and going to sleep after this post, so I'm sorry if you're not dismissing my argument, but dismissal is the number one response to my argument, so it's kinda frustrating.
