The only way to make that fair is if she (or another major female NPC) is a LI and another male companion also is. Otherwise, it's unfair to straight women/gay men.
Agree ideally 6 companions and 2 NPC's would be fair. However given my extremely low opinion of NPC romances i would prefer Cullen to be the only one(since its unavoidable now) if it turns out they aren't going to have that high a LI count.
True, but the writers have repeatedly defended all bisexual LIs because it was the only way to be equal. They said it was far better to have them all be bi and there to be equal options and to have set sexualities means they would need set sexualities for everyone. So 2/3/1 and 1/4/1 would be neither since in the first 1 sexuality is missing, in the second it is missing as welI. I can see 3/2/2 happening, since at least one of each, but we shall see.
Where did you read that the writers have defended all bisexual LIs repeatedly?
Every time I think about Varric being LI I start to smile. I don't know why. I think he would be very charming LI.
I'm sort of hoping for Cullen as bi, Dorian as gay, and Solas as straight, because it seems like the best balance of what I want vs what seems to screw over straight women the least. It seems like Solas has the biggest female following next to Cullen and that's one companion LI for everyone. I don't really see many male fans for Solas and Dorian is easily the gay favorite, as far as I've seen. It seems like the closest I can see to an ideal situation without a last minute decision not to have set sexualities, which is probably impossible now.

The writers' goal was to give at least 2 LIs choices regardless of gender or sexual orientation of the PC or plot, not create equality. You can have at least 2 LI choices with only 5 LIs if you split the gender correctly: 1 gay, 1 straight and 1 bi on one side and the 2 bi characters on the other.
I suppose it's just me, but I'm really hoping that whether he's an LI or not, Varric will not be the best friend character again.
He isn't my best friend; he's Hawke's best friend. He shouldn't be the Inquisitor's best friend, too.

Then again, Joker was popular and they specifically didn't make him a romantic option.

Wow, I really have way too much respect for the writers to believe they'd write an entire plot for a character just for the purpose of "fan service." Especially when the head writer was incensed that anyone would accuse them of doing so.

As long as there are Cole and GW in my party and among my friends, there is nothing I care about.
It seems like DAI will be quite short of LIs for me this time.
I'm still hoping however futilely that scribe girl isn't a LI and all 3 female companions are.

Especially since there's a lot of speculation that she'll be the token lesbian romance. No thank you, no matter how great her personality is. I've never found NPC romances appealing.
And I would be sad if Varric has changed enough where he's not a good buddy to the Inquisitor. I don't know who else will be my character's best friends, but I assume he'll be one.

I don't think he'll change as a character and lose the buddy thing. Just that it won't be as obvious like it was with Hawke.

Agree on this, he's indeed Hawke's BFF. Would feel a biiit weird if he was Quizzy's BFF too... Friend, yes. Best frantz forever, nope. And I agree, Iron Bull seems to fit for that role.... or any other woman a la Aveline.

I don't know, I don't feel like Hawke knew Varric all that well. Or maybe I feel like I didn't know Varric all that well and thus my Hawke didn't. I feel like there's a lot more to him left to be revealed that will be in DAI.

Not to mention, she's not even THAT popular around people here. So i'm not interested in her being the lesbian one. I'd prefer someone who's popular in the fanbase. Vivienne would be my perfect choice. The love i have for that woman is kind of on the same level as Cass, to the point that if Cass does end up straight (no god, please no. noooo *michael scott voice*) Viv would make me feel a lil better knowing she's the lesbian one. Or bi. Assuming she's a LI anyway.
But please, not scribbles. She sounds waaaay too much like Kelly and Sam Traynor romance and while i liked them, i don't want a lesbian NPC (again)

It's not even a given that he was Hawke's best friend. You know, you could rival him and then he is a storyteller, but far from a friend.

That is what he claims in his re-telling, he could have lied and in reality he let Hawke deal with the problem(s) all alone.
